    Kai greeting my dog
    Kimberly Y.

Common space is pretty albeit limited/cramped, and not all the amenities work all the time, but they host random events (like one time the staff offered us jello shots as we walked out, very unexpected lol), and the best part is the golden retriever, Kai! I love that this place is dog friendly, so for that, I'll add on a full star. Windows make a big difference. The first time my company worked here, we were in the biggest conference room, which doesn't have direct access to natural light (located in the middle of the floor with dim lighting), which left a bad impression. The other conference rooms with natural sunlight are much more enjoyable to work in. Usually the place is clean, but found food and a used knife on the floor of a conference room. It was there for days; I'm not sure if it's still there or not.

Construction outside the building makes it impossible to hear anyone calling in to a meeting. Never again.

The ambiance was welcoming and bright. The restrooms were very clean and sanitary. The patio area was open with plenty of outdoor space and seating. In front was plenty street parking near destination. As for the owner he was very helpful and a pleasure to work with. However, the neighbor was problematic. During the middle of games, we were interrupted by the neighbor playing loud unearthly music blasting through a speaker specifically placed in their window towards our party. When asked by the owner to come to a reconciliation she refused and threatened to call patrol. Our party was still fun, but very distracted. The vibes were off, the owner tried to improvise by letting us bring music outside with a minimum volume limit but it didn't help much.

The space is well organized, with many different work areas- all very comfortable, clean and well-decorated. THe patio is amazing (another big surprise!). Most of all I appreciated the quiet and peaceful vibe-- none of the weird striver tech-bro energy I've experienced in other co-working spaces. I will definitely return in the future.

I only practice therapy part-time, so renting an office on my own was not affordable, and sublets typically offered very limited (and often less desirable) days/hours of availability. Sima Space has struck a new model that strikes the balance of affordability and flexibility. I have been able to build my practice up one client at a time without incurring an outrageous overhead while my caseload was small. As my practice has grown, I have benefited from the incremental discounts built into my contract, which incentivize using the office more hours each month. I have saved a lot of money in the months I've been at Sima Space. Besides the rent-by-hour model, I have benefited greatly from having the option to see clients in any of the three locations they have in San Francisco (Nob Hill), Berkeley (Downtown), or Oakland (Pill Hill). I have enjoyed using the Berkeley office as my primary location, but have been able to build in a day of seeing clients in San Francisco when I'm there for other meetings anyway. My personal experience working with Sima and Sayed has also been a delight. It is clear from talking to either of them that they truly care about creating an environment that supports therapists in their healing practices. They have been warm, responsive, and flexible throughout my time with them, which makes all the rest of the experience all the better. I would highly recommend Sima Space to therapists starting their practice, and to established therapists looking for a flexible part-time office environment.

Having opened just last week as one of the Bay Area's premier green office and event spaces, the Brower Center aims to inspire social action by providing an incubation ground for the collaboration of progressive organizations and citizens. Currently it houses half a dozen non-profits from those supporting local agriculture (CAFF) to community builders and environmentalists. The 180-seat theater, galleries and restaurant provide the pollen for the curious, active swarms to engage and mobilize. The execution is gorgeous: the building uses no artificial light during the day and collects vast amounts of energy from the rooftop solar panels. Rain is also channeled to water the patio gardens and toilets. It feels expansive and open but is a bit lacking in warmth. However, the Salgado photography exhibit on the ground floor is not to be missed; heart wrenching and thought provoking, they hit the (reclaimed) nail on the head with this one. I'm hoping to see some interesting community programs for youths. The key here is in utilization. We'll see what comes...

You Call That Art?…read more On a rainy Tuesday evening, I came out to the David Brower Center for a fun workshop with Visual Thinking Strategies on finding new and interesting ways to engage with art. We used the DBC's new gallery exhibition, "Land, Use", as our examples. I particularly enjoyed the discussions around the "Trojan Horse" and "Victory Garden" pictures. It was a fulfilling group exercise and made me realize how much information I miss during a museum visit, as I mostly breeze through. The DBC Exhibit Space is handsome and inviting and staff was more than accommodating. I also had a Kismet moment while looking at Fernando García Dory 's "Shepard's School" display about his work in Northern Spain. Gayle and I had marveled over those same Picos de Europa mountains and may have observed a few of those very nomads during our walk that one October day above Fuente De.

Its grimy and loud and perfect if your a young 20 year old attending university having fun on a Friday night. Restaurants and a bar make for a more enjoyable experience for people living nearby - that is if they enjoy that sort of thing. Parking might be an issue if you are driving in by car. It is limited and those ugly white 3 wheel police frequent the area. I remember 10 or 15 years ago I once even got a ticket for parking more than 18'' away from the curb. I didn't think that was the case but I wasn't parked perfectly parallel to the curb and it made it look worse that it was. Crime is increasing in Berkeley and parents have gone to far to raise funds to hire private security for their children. People here seem to be happy and care free but I think there may be certain people on edge. It is sad that the only thing we can trust the police department to do is to give tickets. They must walk around with a yard stick. Terrible people. How about they go lock up the kriminals instead?

Unfortunately the ice wasn't in cubes so the flavor was so watered down that I couldn't taste the gin at all...We then were served some great little warm breads with delicious butter YUM! The split mixed iceburg lettuce salad arrived which was a generous portion & well dressed with some notes of tarragon ..nice! John ordered the braised short rib & he subbed out the mashed potato/roquefort for the fried potato disks that came with the rib eye. Good spuds! My beef bourguignon had wonderful toothsome wide egg noodles but weirdly, chunks of green pepper & undercooked pearl onions? The beefy gravy was perfect on the pasta BUT the beef's texture was terrible.. mushy without a smidgen of bite! YUCK! When John had me taste his beef the resuts were much the same... too soft & textureless.. then the opposite...the pretty split carrot halves were too hard & undercooked on his plate to bring out their sweetness....I assume these 2 long cooked meats styles had been sitting for god knows how long I left most of the dinner to take home & see if I could repair the dish... (I'll probably eat the noodles and use the beef in a taco?). so my suggestion is to order the rack of lamb (if I return....which John had had & recommended) & stay away from long cooked items (except beans)
