The owner of StemSteps is a very reactionary person. She doesn't sit to think and reflect before…read moreacting at all. She runs off emotion and uses intimidation to get what she wants. When you attempt to have an adult conversation about your feelings, she loses her ability to think rationally and asserts her dominance once again. She attempts to micromanage every situation even when she isn't present. There were several situations where she would spit off emails or call before she had all the facts, accusing and pointing fingers. She, however, would not come back and apologize or admit that she leaped before having the facts, afterwards. It eventually got to the point where she was twisting facts and blowing molehills into mountains with untrue statements. She was pushing us to medicate our child when our pediatrician strongly discouraged medicating at that time. The teachers were too passive to set strict boundaries, and they seemed to cower to the owner and allow her to control and micromanage a classroom they were in charge of. The owner made accusatory statements that, when I would speak with other parents, didn't seem true at all. We are not saying that our child was perfect in any way, and he definitely needed some more guidance and stricter boundaries; however, the way things played out here was very disheartening. We even went as far as to have a behavior specialist come in to observe for an IBHS support person; which they requested. I attempted to have a discussion with the owner about feelings towards my child, which is what ultimately ended our time here. She went ballistic instead of being professional and reassuring. It was such a hit to her ego, and she couldn't take it or someone standing up to her false accusations. There was no professional adult conversation, just finger-pointing and blocking. Our son didn't have these types of behaviors in the school before or after this school. He is doing great now in a new school. The behavior consultant discussed what she saw when she observed, and a lot of it was boundary pushing and allowing him to get his way, instead of setting clear boundaries and consequences to teach him, it seemed to be all over the place. Lots of reminders with no consequences, allowing him to get what he wanted, which would reinforce the poor behavior, them being frustrated, and eventually just a target on his back. Again, not that these behaviors were acceptable, but they weren't what was being made out either after speaking to the behavior consultant and piecing things together on our own. I also went in to observe one day. No behaviors but saw him being kicked. When he kicked back, he got caught and in trouble. His new school said they also don't understand because they don't see the behaviors that this owner was saying he had. If you have a very calm, timid, robot-like child, this will be a great fit. However, if you have a rambunctious child with ADHD who goes against the grain at times and wants to be moving, this is 100% not the right fit. The day I observed, they were expected to sit for 25 min doing carpet time. That's a long time for a 4-year-old, let alone a 4-year-old boy who has ADHD. They do wonderful activities there, which is why my son loved it, but there was lots of sitting and expectations of standing still, straight lines, chair work, and not enough strict follow-through. Like I mentioned above, if you have a quiet, calm, timid child, this place is great. If you have a typical hyper, rowdy, strong-willed child, I would find a place better fit because StemSteps cannot and will not be a good fit for your child. I suggest reading the book Raising Lions for this school and some training in consistent follow through, rule setting, consequences and behavior management.

I am 110% pleased and satisfied with the exceptional level of care here. My kids are ages 2 and 4, and I have been at Allie the whole time. The teachers genuinely care about the kids, and Allison is extremely accommodating to parents' schedule changes and needs. There is a personal touch here, which often lacks in the corporate franchise facilities. Seasonal festivals and late nights are offered regularly and allow for parents to either enjoy socializing at the school with their children or enjoy a few hours of adult time. New housing developments are exploding in the area. If you are relocating or moving to the area, don't let a bad review keep you from checking this place out and seeing for yourself. Let me start out by saying that I should have trusted my gut about this place. I initially reached…read moreout in January 2022, when I was 3 months pregnant, because I knew that waitlists would be long. The director, Ashley, responded to my online form submission via email and then disappeared. It took a follow up email, a missed phone call, and a comment on Facebook to finally get her to call me back a month later at the end of February 2022. Almost all of her email communications were delayed and she was unresponsive. I tried calling many times, but not ONCE have I called this place and had someone answer the phone. These were the first red flags. Still, I scheduled a tour with Ashley in March. The tour went fine, and she told me that a spot would be available for my infant in November 2022 for Fall enrollment. She sent me home with the paperwork. My husband and I took the night to think about it, and the very next day scanned and emailed our application to Ashley. She responded and confirmed she received the application and told us "Welcome to Primrose". I emailed her again to ask if I could drop off the $150 deposit in person, as I live right down the road, which I did do. Ashley again emailed me after this and told me she received my check (she wasn't available when I arrived) and "Welcome to Primrose". My check was cashed shortly after. Now, in September, I'm making plans to go back to work and email Ashley for an official start day. Two weeks go by with no response. I call - as usual, they don't pick up the phone. Finally, I sent ANOTHER email and she responds back that she 'regrets to inform me' that she never processed my application through their system and therefore she never actually reserved my spot - despite cashing my deposit. That was it - no offer to return my deposit, no mention of a way to remedy the situation, not even information on when a new spot might be available. I thought for sure there was a mistake. I called Ashley's direct line and the main line to the daycare - big surprise, no answer. I left voicemails on both. I got tired of waiting and sent another email to Ashley saying that I didn't understand what was happening, as I'd submitted an application, paid a deposit, and was welcomed to the school. She responded to my email and told me that it was her error, but there is nothing they could do. The soonest availability for my daughter would be June 2023 when she turned a year old. I emailed her back and told her to call me, I wanted to speak on the phone. I spoke with both Ashley (Director) and Liz (Owner) over the phone. Both were unapologetic, unsympathetic and nonchalant about the entire situation. Liz said "I don't know what you want us to do, we're just humans here." Yes, we all make mistakes, but when I make a mistake, I fix it. This is a mistake that is going to cost me greatly financially, professionally and emotionally. My options are to take a leave of absence from work, pay almost triple to hire a full-time nanny (if I can even find one on short notice) or to sacrifice both the quality of my daughter's care and the quality of my work by juggling both. Yet, Primrose doesn't care. So, ask yourself if you want incompetent, unsympathetic people caring for your child. And if you do decide to enroll at Primrose, double, triple, quadruple check that they do their jobs.

Primrose lost our application and we are without child care while trying to return to work.read more

During each stage of Jack's development, the staff worked with us (parents) to ensure that they were maximizing his potential. They strive for personalized excellence, and in doing so, Garden students have the unique opportunity to learn about their passions. For example, Jack is especially interested in the solar system. The knowledgeable and Montessori-trained teachers provided specific (solar system!) opportunities which allowed him to nurture this passion. Jack is so proud of his working knowledge of the solar system, and I strongly believe that is because he was provided with stimulating work related to this passion. Jack has also matured socially, and I credit Garden for this. He has developed a strong sense of justice (one of the many virtues that Garden instills), independence, curiosity, and kindness. While only in kindergarten, he is already an advanced reader, completes complex math problems, and loves to learn. I believe that this love of learning is essential for children to continue on to traditional school methods and beyond. We are so grateful for the incredibly gifted staff at Garden. They are attentive, empathetic, and knowledgeable. Every day I drop Jack off at school, I know he is in good hands.
