The management is willing to hear and listen to your concerns. It is all about the kids. The owner of StemSteps is a very reactionary person. She doesn't sit to think and reflect before…read moreacting at all. She runs off emotion and uses intimidation to get what she wants. When you attempt to have an adult conversation about your feelings, she loses her ability to think rationally and asserts her dominance once again. She attempts to micromanage every situation even when she isn't present. There were several situations where she would spit off emails or call before she had all the facts, accusing and pointing fingers. She, however, would not come back and apologize or admit that she leaped before having the facts, afterwards. It eventually got to the point where she was twisting facts and blowing molehills into mountains with untrue statements. She was pushing us to medicate our child when our pediatrician strongly discouraged medicating at that time. The teachers were too passive to set strict boundaries, and they seemed to cower to the owner and allow her to control and micromanage a classroom they were in charge of. The owner made accusatory statements that, when I would speak with other parents, didn't seem true at all. We are not saying that our child was perfect in any way, and he definitely needed some more guidance and stricter boundaries; however, the way things played out here was very disheartening. We even went as far as to have a behavior specialist come in to observe for an IBHS support person; which they requested. I attempted to have a discussion with the owner about feelings towards my child, which is what ultimately ended our time here. She went ballistic instead of being professional and reassuring. It was such a hit to her ego, and she couldn't take it or someone standing up to her false accusations. There was no professional adult conversation, just finger-pointing and blocking. Our son didn't have these types of behaviors in the school before or after this school. He is doing great now in a new school. The behavior consultant discussed what she saw when she observed, and a lot of it was boundary pushing and allowing him to get his way, instead of setting clear boundaries and consequences to teach him, it seemed to be all over the place. Lots of reminders with no consequences, allowing him to get what he wanted, which would reinforce the poor behavior, them being frustrated, and eventually just a target on his back. Again, not that these behaviors were acceptable, but they weren't what was being made out either after speaking to the behavior consultant and piecing things together on our own. I also went in to observe one day. No behaviors but saw him being kicked. When he kicked back, he got caught and in trouble. His new school said they also don't understand because they don't see the behaviors that this owner was saying he had. If you have a very calm, timid, robot-like child, this will be a great fit. However, if you have a rambunctious child with ADHD who goes against the grain at times and wants to be moving, this is 100% not the right fit. The day I observed, they were expected to sit for 25 min doing carpet time. That's a long time for a 4-year-old, let alone a 4-year-old boy who has ADHD. They do wonderful activities there, which is why my son loved it, but there was lots of sitting and expectations of standing still, straight lines, chair work, and not enough strict follow-through. Like I mentioned above, if you have a quiet, calm, timid child, this place is great. If you have a typical hyper, rowdy, strong-willed child, I would find a place better fit because StemSteps cannot and will not be a good fit for your child. I suggest reading the book Raising Lions for this school and some training in consistent follow through, rule setting, consequences and behavior management.

KinderCare Wexford is the most poorly managed daycare I've ever seen. My spouse and I had our son…read moreenrolled in a KinderCare in Sterling, VA where he was happy. When we relocated to Pittsburgh last year, we figured the care would be similar when we transferred him into this KinderCare. We were so wrong! The worst thing is the director. She sends emails at least once (sometimes two or three times) a week asking parents to keep their children home. If she doesn't get enough "volunteers," she will close your child's classroom for a day - or two days - or even three days a week. The reason for these frequent closures surely cannot be that every teacher quits or calls off, but I believe she is a terrible manager, and good teachers leave or do not wish to work for her when she recruits. I fear she's created a reputation in the area, and good teachers aren't willing to take her job offers because she has created a hostile work environment. The children are the ones that end up suffering with all these frequent days off, and working parents (who are paying roughly $18,000.00 per year per child for the service) have to make snap last minute desperate decisions about what to do with their kids on a day that a room is closed. One time she sent at text message to parents at 8:10am. We had our son in the car seat, and we were on our way to the daycare with him when she closed his room with no notice. She appears terribly unfriendly, and we observed her wearing inappropriate political "Make Wexford Great Again" swag clothing to the parents' night. The center director's communication is awful, too. She frequently sends emails to parents with wrong dates and attachments, which causes confusion. Then she sends corrections that are still wrong. Usually she'll send a third message in all caps when she finally gets the dates, times, and spellings right. She even sent us one email that our son's room was closed, then proceeded to send a second email about a fundraiser within that very same hour. Who feels like giving anybody money when you're not getting the services the daycare promised? She also got us to sign up for Soccer Shots lessons on Wednesdays that cost about $130.00. That seems to be the day she closes our son's room most frequently. We paid for eight soccer lessons, and our son has only had one of them. When I asked for a refund on that, she ignored me. This place is dirty. They leave dirty buckets of mop water in the hallways on the rare occasion they actually use them. The kitchen isn't secured, and they have heating elements accessible where kids can wander in. The floors are filthy, and the kids play with toys that are falling apart. We decided on a new daycare center some time ago and only recently worked our way up the waiting list to where our son can start somewhere new next week. The last item is the curriculum. There is none. When other toddler classrooms are learning letters, numbers, and colors, the kids at this center are just being "babysat." At the other KinderCare center in Virginia where our son was enrolled, the teacher in the 12 mo - 18 mo room went over colors, numbers, and letters every morning. Now we get app updates that there is "free play" most of the day, some songs, and basic skills like changing shoes. If we were interested in this kind of babysitting, we'd be going to a non-academy setting that is far less expensive. Our son will be three, and he doesn't even recognize letters or numbers when we try to show him at home. My advice to anybody reading this is to stay away. KinderCare must replace this center's director, and new management must take over before anybody should be sending their children. I called their corporate offices to complain about the frequent closures, and the agent told me, "that's what we do." The agent suggested I call the regional director and gave me her number. I called twice and never received a call back. She only returned my message two weeks later, but we knew we were enrolling our son elsewhere by that point.

This school was an absolute dream come true! We spent seven years here - all three of our daughters…read morewent here, and loved every single minute! It is such a family atmosphere, and our girls learned to love school because of their time at FDC. My husband and I attribute the wonderful start they had at FDC to their continued success in and love of school. They have even remained friends with a number of the kids they were friends with from preschool, even though we go to a different school district than most of the kids. And all of the girls, even our 5th grader, still love to come back whenever possible to say hi to their teachers who meant so much to them. This school holds a special place for our family, and we cannot say enough wonderful things about the teachers and the environment they create for young minds and hearts.

I think that place has long since been converted into a Whole Foods. There were lots of toys and activities to keep the one -four age group entertained but it was lacking a quiet space for kids to decompress. Sometimes kids (and parents) need a quiet space. The Center for Creative Play had numerous quiet space areas filled with pillows and soft music. I sincerely appreciated that. I will say that the woman at the front desk was extremely friendly and personable and the restrooms were clean. I read a startling statistic once that nearly 60 percent of diaper changing stations are riddled with bacteria and cocaine residue- I felt safe to assume that My Lil Play Place was part of the cocaine free minority. The Purel wipes took care of any lingering bacteria suspicions. I would definitely give this place another chance to win me over. My daughter had a really good time.
