We had the Champagne Island flight. Such a great deal. We had 12 different beers and there were only 2 I didn't like (though my husband did). Plenty to do with darts, cornhole, and games. Plus, the beertender gave us free popcorn. read more

Bottom Line: Nice gifts, home decor and jewelry. Whale's Tale is a nice and fairly large gift shop located in the Washington Street Mall. They have jewelry, handbags, accessories, tea towels, fancy paper napkins, soaps, candles, puzzles and such. A lot of their items say Cape May or reference famous Cape May landmarks so if you want something to remember Cape May then this is a good place for that. I ended up getting one of my favorite hand soaps from The Thymes line and overall really enjoyed the shopping experience. read more

Out of all the Washington Street Mall Souvenir shops we went to, Tale was the most tasteful. A little pricey, but...I guess it comes with the territory. I really don't like going back home without some sort of tchotchke for my family- but I also didn't want to bring along boring Key Chains or Shot Glasses you always see in some rinky-dink place. Tale has posh Souvenirs and again...they came with a price. I picked out a few bowls that can double as jewelry dishes/coin collecting/slash this, slash that- for my sisters, niece and my MiniMe. Since my Mom has always been a Seamstress, I got her a pretty thimble with soft, Beachy colors so she can add to her Thimble Curio cabinet and Cape May Kitchen Towels. I like buying folks Souvenirs they'll use and not trash them. I'll be honest, I'm so picky with those damn flip-flop key chains- I always trash them right out. Stumbled into this place by pure accident - I happened to get a great parking spot right outside! It's a neat little store with a section for cards and stationary and on the other side, nice gifts. The merchandise here is lovely - I ended up purchasing a wonderful little wind chime and also a small colorful painting. They figured out that the letters C A P E M A Y don't necessarily have to be slathered on everything, so kudos! Prices were very reasonable. Whale's Tale was my favorite shop to visit in Cape May as a kid. They had dried and preserved fish and fancy shells for sale. I had some creepy looking fish (and a seahorse) growing up. It was probably an odd collector's choice for a 10 year old, so let's move on. This shop has been a fixture on Washington Street Mall for as long as I can remember. In addition to pristine sea life, they also sell a bunch of jewelry, keepsake items, and kids' toys in the back room. The jewelry is generally out of my price range. This place is great! It's got an oceanic city-by-the-sea charm about it. Cape May is one of my favorite places on Earth to visit, and my trip is never complete without a visit to the Whale's Tale! I LOVE this gift/craft store and come here every year to get my supply of seashells and sand art. The gifts are not your typical CMBP-esque touristy fare but beautifully crafted crafts, jewelry, and seashell-art. They also have a great toy shop in the back with crafts and activities I noticed today that they have these sand-based glass panels that function akin to time turners (except flat). Absolutely beautiful and worth the investment, as pricey as they are ($35+). Definitely recommend coming here if you are in Cape May. The stationary selection is beautiful as well, and, as much as I hate to admit it, puts my tried-and-true Papyrus to shame. Every summer we vacation in Cape May, and every summer The Whale's Tale is the only shop I *always* make a purchase. They carry beautiful, higher end jewelry, gorgeous polished seashells suitable for display, housewares, pretty nautical trinkets like Christmas ornaments and well-made key chains. They also have two back rooms- one filled with quality toys and all sorts of books, and the other filled with stationary and cards. The merchandise is high quality, not junky stuff you find in tourist traps.
