Outstanding mall on a couple closed streets in the middle of Cape May. I've been here dozens of times and I still don't think I've been in every store. Upscale shops and souvenir stores. Great restaurants (Tisha's is the best) and ice cream parlors. I like the fact that even behind the stores there are benches to sit in the shade. I've never left here without something ( fudge, peanut butter, clothes, etc). If you're in Wildwood or Cape May it's a great place to spend a few hours killing time and shopping or dining out. read more

3 blocks + of touristy fun! This pedestrian mall smack dab in the middle of town has been here since the 70s & has a great variety of unique shops (no chain stores - ok Kohr's & DQ maybe;), places to eat, things for kids & adults alike. It's also not super big, so you can walk up and down without having to spend a lot of time getting to where you want to go. Every time I've been here, I've had the opportunity to enter the Star-of-the-Sea's car raffle (in front of the Church on the East end) ...one of these days I'm gonna win;) The other great thing about the Mall is that much of the other things to see/do in Cape May are within easy walking distance - more restaurants, B&Bs, mini golf, arcades, more shops, the beach... It's one of the area's top destinations and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. A three-block stretch of Washington Street and adjoining sections of six streets are closed to vehicular traffic, so the area is a big pedestrian mall with over 75 businesses - boutiques, shops, restaurants, bars, snacks, are everywhere for your purchasing pleasure. Street parking and parking lots are pretty convenient all around the area, and we found a nice diagonal spot in a big parking lot behind Washington Street. We started our visit Saturday and had a nice lunch at the Ugly Mug and then enjoyed strolling around the mall on a crazily warm Spring-like afternoon. By the time we were ready to return to our hotel our shopping bags contained placemats, beef jerky, a sweatshirt, a bag of candied popcorn, and a car decal. When one thinks of Cape May, the beach and all the Victorian architecture may first come to mind. After that, though, it would likely be the Washington Street Mall - it's a popular spot that attracts vacationers due to its size, walkability, and variety of businesses that line the streets. The Mall is more of an outdoor shopping area that spans a few blocks of Washington Street. It's closed off to cars, so pedestrians are free to roam from store to store without worry. There's a good variety of businesses that one would expect to find in a beach resort town - lots of clothing and gift shops selling touristy stuff, some ice cream parlors, coffee shops, a Christmas store (of course), a confectionary (of course again), and several restaurants. During my most recent trip to CM I visited here several times to people watch and pass the time. The biggest standout shop for me was The Cheese Shop, where I picked up some blue and crackers and was able to munch right outside. The mall itself is easily accessible from multiple points in Cape May, and you can walk Washington St beyond the mall up to the Emlen Physick Estate - another popular attraction in CM. Overall, not to be missed when visiting Cape May, even if you're not looking to make a purchase or eat, it's a great place to walk some laps. read more

A must see place when visiting Cape May. One of our friends suggested this and it was just colorful and very good !! Loved taking photographs here amidst the colorful backgrounds . Lots and lots of eateries around . Parking is the only headache with this mall. It is so limited and very herd to find , even though it is paid parking . No free parkings around . Took us 20-30 mins to find a parking . Apart from parking this place is just THE PLACE to be . Kids loved the pizzas .. and lots of other ice creams and coffees around . My bf and I had a great time walking around Washing Street Mall. I loved the different shops and snack options. I was able to grab memorable souvenirs for family and friends. And you're supporting local small businesses while you're at it. Parking was a bit difficult as we found a spot about a 15-20 minute walk from the mall. I've been to Europe a few times and walked down Las Rambla in Barcelona where in 2017 some crazy person decided to use their car as a weapon, driving it down a pedestrian area. So I'm extremely aware of shopping areas like this and am especially in tune with my surroundings. Cape May could do better at installing vehicle barricades that would prevent such attacks. Other than that bit of depressing stuff, this is a great spot. On this warm Saturday evening, the place was pretty crowded with families and kids running about. Shopping, dining, eating, looking at locally made crafts and such. A few buskers far enough away from each other that they were each making a decent sound. A highlight for any visit to Cape May. So silly of me, I've been here before, and been writing reviews during that time , but alas, the time is now. This is a must stop during any vacation to cape may/wildwood. It has tons of souvenir shops, ice cream, restaurants, a toy store, a bookstore, and so much more! prices vary by location. Streets are also closed to allow pedestrians to walk right through. Parking can be expensive, and be prepared to walk! This outdoor mall also has benches, so one can sit and eat ice cream or just sit and wait. Went here with my parents as part of our cape may/wildwood trip on Sunday August 4th 2024. We actually parked in the church parking lot, which was close to the bookstore, and next to the cape may park. It was a bit cheaper there, plus the main parking lot we usually park at was crowded. We entered the alley just before the bookstore, and went the other way. We found the old five and dime store that they redid and made it as both a older type store with the counter, and newer items like clothes. We also stopped in various stores. Our last stop was the toy store, and the cape may county book company, which is a great stop for books! Will come again on our next visit! read more

A beautiful place to walk and shop, the mall has a lot of new stores, and different restaurants since I visited here about four years ago. The mall is a smoke free zone, and although masks are not required it was packed last night while walking around as well as the stores being very crowded so use your own discretion. The square in front of the mall has another full block of stores for your shopping pleasure, parking spots are located at the back end of the stores. read more

I always enjoy these walking, strip malls where you can eat, shop, see historical placks and rest all within a few steps. Really though there are a lot of awesome little shops and I can be quite particular about things that I buy and spending money in general but the street here has quite a few nice shops with all kinds of goods, some of which could be unique as it may have been made and only sold locally. So much is in this square or a few steps from it. Clothes, food, jewelry, accessories, things for pets, books, bath & beauty stuff and more. Very lively during the day and calmer at night with lights that shine the way. Strolling the mall is a great way to kill time too as many of the restaurants call for a wait or reservation. So look around, you may find something to pique your interest. If not this a nice local strip to see some local goods. read more

[950] 7/18/2019 Since I was in Cape May I had to check out this local shopping area. Washington street mall is a bunch of mom and pop shops with the street blocked off from traffic. I saw a ton a cute stores and made a bunch of nice purchases. Paid parking is available nearby I wish they had more benches and perhaps some street vendors where I can pick up a quick bite to eat Internet was non existent in most of the stores so I couldn't yelp that much. If you've visited other hot spots on the Jersey Shore you begin to really appreciate Cape May's Washington Street Mall - a (mostly) upscale three block Victorian walkabout in the heart of town. In a departure from shoreline stereotypes, what you won't get is the smell of fried dough and hyperactive carnies exhorting you to ride their tilt-a-whirl vomit cages. Don't get me wrong, the WSM is still a strange brew of luxury and profanity where you can come home with a genuine Rolex, a watercolor seascape, salt water taffy or a Christmas ornament of Santa riding a jet ski. It's just that the surroundings are much nicer and you won't hear "WTF Bro" every ten seconds from the store clerks and the restaurant maitre d. Upmarket boutiques abound as do mom and pop curio shops and rikki tikki beachwear/souvenir storefronts where sunscreen. boogie boards and t-shirts that scream "NJ Bitc_es Be Trippin" can be had with one swipe of your plastic. I didn't notice a concerted effort to social distance but the prevalence of masks was reassuring. On the very positive side of things there's plenty of food and ice cream options with mercifully shady outside dining available. Washington Street is a must visit diversion every time we find ourselves at the southern tip of the Garden State and makes for a nice stroll as you add to your collection of coral salt shakers and Rolex Mariners. An odd but appealing blend of experiences. read more

Small but cute place to shop... I was not there particularly for shopping, we parked our car nearby and while going to the beach we saw this and what a found it was for us. Super cute small shops spread across 3-4 blocks. Cars are passing through this mall. All we did was window shopping, clicked few pics. This is a great spot for hang out. We were there in winter and again on labor weekend. Though we bought a cute magnet from one shop. You can find lots of thing in these shops. Its just 3 blocks away from the beach and it is crowded during summer. You can ride on Horse cart here. Just across the street, you can find cart parking where you can board these. Parking- just 1 block far, you 'll find municipality parking $1 per hour. read more

Awesome shopping area. Came here after having dinner in the area. It was really busy. I wish we had come earlier in the day and without the spouses. I think my daughter and I could have different hours here. Will definitely add it as a must do on the next trip. The streets are bricked and no car traffic so you can just still through the area and visit all the stores. I really liked all the stores that we were able to go into. Something for everyone. An outdoor mall with food, shops, bars etc. It includes cute boutiques and brand names like Ben and Jerry's, Kohl Bro's etc. Due to COVID, plan on wearing a mask in stores. Also, you are now able to buy alcohol from restaurants and bars in the mall and carry them around to drink or bring in stores. Be sure to ask for a lid though to comply with the local ordinance. A fun seaside marketplace with tons of shops. Our favorite was The Cheese Shop but there are many fun little gift shops to check out. Parking is steep at $7 an hour at the close by lot. Two art galleries also line the way along with small eateries - ice cream and Americana plus your typical beach shops for t shirts and towels. read more

Washington Street Mall is the shopping hub of Cape May. Ample Metered Parking is available. The outdoor Mall has approx 30 small independent stores. The shops include kitschy clothing and antique shops, Christmas decoration store, candy, ice cream, peanut butter, olive oil etc. there are a handful of restaurants and bars as well. Depending on where you are staying the Mall maybe within walking distance. The Mall is surrounded by beautiful Victorian homes and bed & breakfasts. It is worth checking out if in the area. When staying in Cape May it is a nightly trip. read more

Washington Street Mall is a gem. Just like most of Cape May. I grew up visiting this outdoor walking mall. From ice cream stops as a kid, to casual strolls with family as a teen, to stops at the Ugly Mug as a young adult, this place is really special to me. It's so close to the beach and centrally located in the town. There's really a shop or restaurant for any taste. And if not, at least there's fudge! Don't even think about trying to skip over Fudge Kitchen! I'd also recommend Whale's Tale for nice souvenirs, and the big Christmas shop close to the Acme. I wish I could visit Cape May more than I actually do. Perhaps I'll make that change this summer. Nonetheless, Washington Street Mall is special and worth a visit. Take some time to admire the Victorian architecture all around the area too. My only qualm is parking. Go in the offseason if you don't want to desperately circle around trying to find an available spot! read more
