George, who I believe is the owner, was extremely helpful and put my bike together when it arrived boxed up from the states. This is a fantastic bike shop, with a nice selection of bikes from cruisers to roadies to climbers. They also do repairs on bikes, for what seemed like reasonable prices to me. George told me he would have my bike finished within two days and I got a call 7hours later that it was ready, so not only are they reasonable but timely as well! If you are a novice cycler or a pro, West End Cycles is worth a visit!

It also pays to give them your business even if it can be cheaper online - you'll miss the convenience if one day it's gone. However, every once in a while you'll want to browse a wider range of stuff or check out a bit of hardware that those bigger stores will have in stock. Which is why I found myself in Evans Cycles at Xscape recently, primarily drooling over the expensive bikes on show, but there with the intention of picking up a decent set of lights for some winter evening riding. I hadn't been there long before an assistant asked me if I needed any help, but I told him I was just looking so I could take my time inspecting what was on offer. When I'd narrowed it down to a couple of choice front lights - one of which wasn't out on display, I asked an assistant if I could have a demo of them. Fully expecting to be told that they didn't want to take them out of the packaging, I was pleasantly surprised when he said he'd just go and fetch some batteries. I'd been in both the Evans Cycles stores in the Waterloo area of London a while back and I had found the staff just a little bit abrupt. Not in a bad way, but I just got the vibe that they had so many customers of a day that they didn't have the time or inclination to make it a more friendly experience. With the batteries inserted into the lights the guy opened up a store cupboard to show me how the different lights performed in the dark, explaining that although one had a wider spread, the one with the more focussed beam would be better for trail riding. He also knew and explained the difference between the ratings on the lights, as one used candella and the other lumens. Back at the counter we had a chat about different places to ride as he re-boxed the light I wanted, and we exchanged some good tips on places we'd been to. During the course of the conversation I told him that I had ordered clipless pedals from my local bike shop and said I was a bit nervous about using them for the first time. He said not to worry, and gave me some great advice on what to be careful of. With the sale made I left with a totally different opinion of Evans cycles than I'd gotten from the stores in London. What I'd experienced was the kind of friendly, personal service that is so rare, yet makes such a difference to how you feel when you walk out of the door. The fact is, you're more likely to walk back in again at a later date if you're treated like a valued customer and not just another schmo' on the conveyor belt. So, with the great range of bikes and accessories they have in store and customer service that's a cut above what I'd expect, I'm sure I'll be going back to Evans at Xscape in future when I do need something my local shop doesn't have.

Legendary sports shop situated in Clyde Shopping Hall, Mega Sports may be smaller than the average…read moregarden shed, but remains incredibly popular with football fans. This is thanks in no small part to the ludicrously cheap football tops they sell. Legend has it most of the products, which are not fake, are so cheap on account of being slightly faulty, e.g. a squinty sponsor, but I have never noticed anything wrong with any of my purchases. You're also guaranteed friendly and helpful service, especially if you're in to buy one of the fetching Clydebank tops they have for sale.

They have many fast food and restaurant options and it seems to be very popular place with the younger crowd as there is also an area for video games and entertainment. Just beware that many stores close early (6 pm I think) and although the food places may be open but many stores were not when I went around 7 pm.

River Island is my favourite place for trousers as they're the only place that I can ever manage to find my size, every other shop the trousers are either too tight, too big or too long. I also adore their accessories, especially their belts and hats. River Island is a strange place though, sometimes I go in and want absolutely everything and other times I can't find so much as a pair of socks that tickle my fancy. That's probably not a bad thing though as it's not the cheapest place and probably does my bank balance a lot of favours.

The first floor has a variety of underware and special offers on pants make it good value. They have a value range now as well even better for your money. There is a small mens department stocking shirts, underware, trousers, slippers and the likes. There is also a small choice of clothing for children with nice items for newborns. There is also a food hall it is not as big as the one in Glasgow but it still has some really tasty food. They stock a variety of dishes, puddings and crisps for afterwards. They also sell greeting cards and wrapping paper.
