I have used Wheelers of Hawaii three times- once when visiting Aulani on O'ahu and once on Maui. I have a large permobile m5 powered wheelchair and the van they rented me was basically the one I have at home- plenty large enough or the chair, my husband daughter and I and our luggage with room to spare. For our trip to Hawaii, we rented a handicap-accessible van so we can be able to transport our son, who is in a wheelchair. In planning and coordinating our van rental, we dealt mainly with Jordan, who quickly responded to questions. The entire trip was very convenient. 1. Upon our arrival, we met Jordan curbside at the airport. He even helped load the baggage and drove us to our hotel. 2. Not van-related, but as he drove, he pointed to great tourist sites and places to eat that were delicious and inexpensive. He even e-mailed a list of great restaurants. 3. When it was time to return home, Jordan met us curbside at the airport to retrieve the van. 4. The van was in perfect condition, and the "straps" to hold the wheelchair in place during travel were very easy to use. Overall, we had a very positive experience with Wheelers. Using them allowed us to travel with our son. If you or someone you know is traveling in a wheelchair, this is DEFINITELY the place to go. We HIGHLY recommend using them. read more

We just returned from our trip to Honolulu. My father in law was recently confined to a wheelchair. It was so easy to take trips around the island with the accessible van. We were rented a newish Toyota Sienna van with 12,000 miles with an automatic folding ramp. Jordan W. picked us up at the airport baggage claim when we arrived. He also met us at the departure terminal when we were leaving. Pricing was reasonable compared with vans without ramps. Of course the comparison is made with Hertz and others jacking up their rental rates recently. We will rent from Wheelers again on our future trips to Hawaii. My inlaws were very appreciative to me for renting the van. I would like to pass on the thanks to Wheelers. read more

My daughters birthday celebration was this past Saturday night and we were celebrating at Breakout Waikiki. My mother is in an electric wheelchair and because of the late pickup time was unable to get a ride from the Handi Van. I went to Yelp for help and was ecstatic to see the 5 star review for Wheelers. I entered my father's information online and got a quote right away. I followed up with him the next day and was happy to hear that he was in the process of picking up the van. When I saw them that night I was impressed with the van. My father told me that the price he paid was higher than the quote we got online but he didn't inquire why because he was just so happy to get the van. He said that he was able to leave his van there at no extra charge, which was such a convenience. He also told me that the owner Jennifer informed him that she was selling that particular van for $16000 and an older model for $8000. I was shocked and happy to hear that we finally had some possible options to purchase an accessible van and what sounded like a great contact for our future rental needs. The night went great and we broke out of the Ala Moana Stock Exchange room with 4 minutes to spare. The next day when I followed up with my father I was shocked to hear that his van had been damaged while left on Wheelers property. He said when he showed Jennifer the damage she denied any responsibility and said that maybe it happened when he "went shopping". I couldn't believe my ears, this 5 star Yelp reviewed company with their wonderful reviews would do such a thing. My father decided not to call the police to make a report since he was hoping to try and create a relationship with this business. He then inquired on reserving the van for Thanksgiving and was told by Jennifer that they were booked! Really...booked, after just yesterday you were offering up the vehicle for sale? How would you be able to sell a vehicle that you already have reserved for use? I am saddened and appalled by someone that would first deny damage to a vehicle that had no damage prior to being left on their property and then blatantly lie about being "booked" because my father brought the damage to your attention. So much for wanting to help people and do the right thing. My overall opinion after this encounter is that Wheeler and it's owner Jennifer are not the kind helpful people they claim to be. read more

This will sound strange, but I wanted to share my experience about Wheeler's competitor (Soderholm Bus & Mobility). We had to rent from them this year on our vacation because Wheeler's didn't have any available vans. We missed the ease of being picked up at the airport by Jordan and Jennifer (the owners), we missed the friendly, courteous, personable, greeting from Jordan. We missed the no fuss, no hassle, of the entire rental process. We missed the pristine condition of the rental van. Now that we've compared the 2... Wheeler's is the best, hands down! Our next visit to the island will be planned around a Wheeler's van rental... then we can fully enjoy our vacation. read more

I recently rented a van from Wheelers and was so happy to have found them! Mom was recently discharged from the hospital and is in a wheelchair. She's not able to transfer to a car on her own yet, so we've had to rely on private companies that provide wheelchair accessible vehicles to get her from appointment to appointment. That is very costly at $60 for a one way trip . I never knew there were companies that rent wheelchair accessible vans until I found Wheelers here on Yelp. Jennifer was a pleasure to work with! She has a warm and caring personality and exudes the Aloha spirit, as does her husband . The van is first class! Newer model, clean, with an easy to use wheelchair ramp. My wife and I travel to Oahu occasionally for both business and pleasure and require a wheelchair accessible van for getting around the island. Wheelers has always been there for us, and is always our preferred choice. Here's why: What's our most precious commodity when visiting Hawaii? TIME. Jennifer W. and the Wheelers organization understand this and waste no time in getting us what we need, when need it. Last time we were in Honolulu, Jennifer arrived at our Waikiki hotel on time, with a clean, ready-to-go, low mileage late model Dodge minivan. After just a few minutes, we were off. Three days later after perfectly flawless experience, she got it back from us, hassle-free. Total price was as good or better than any of the others. Would have given five stars except for a couple very minor things: Jennifer was unfamiliar with the kneel operation in the vehicle (I figured it out, but someone else might have trouble doing so). The other thing that might be nice is if there were a selection of vans instead of just the default (Dodge). I have a Sienna at home and would have gladly paid for an upgrade, but again, this is a very minor point. read more

Jennifer provided a great late model 2012 Toyota Sienna Braun ramp van sideloader. They pickup at the airport and drive to hotel. Price comparable to the mainland. Made getting around stress free for a power chair user. Opted to meet at airport for return. I would definitely use Wheelers when visiting Honolulu or other islands. read more

We had to transport my mom and her belongings from a nursing home in Round Rock to Dallas. We picked up a van from the Wheelers station at the Holiday Inn Express in Austin. The van was a late model Dodge Caravan. The instructions was easy to follow and the van was easy to drive. It was an enjoyable experience for us and even though my moms wheelchair was slightly oversized (33in) we were able to make it fit. read more

We were extremely satisfied with the van itself, a clean and comfortable 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, equipped with an easy-to-use fold down ramp. The owner, Jennifer, provided very good customer service, and promptly took care of our questions/concerns as they came up. She seemed genuinely appreciative of our business, and gave us a very fair and competitive price. And the delivery and return of the vehicle couldn't have been easier or more convenient - she met us right at the airport! No shuttles to off-site lots saved time and hassle. I would never do business with Jennifer and Wheelers! The van we rented on Kauai was old and had over 120,000 miles on it. The windshield wipers were worn and did not clean the rain off. The ABS brake warning light was on constantly. But most importantly we had to come home sooner than expected because of my disabled daughter's illness. When I asked Jennifer for a refund for the days not used she coldly told me to read my contract. She is all about the money and has NO compassion for the disabled. Firstly, I don't give 5 stars to any one person or business - no one is perfect. But Wheelers Accessible Van rental service is as close as they can get. Exceptional service from booking to pick-up/drop off on Christmas week trip to Hawaii, Kona big island. Dodge mini van with manually operated side-door slide out ramp, lowered floor to minimize ramp angle. The lift was simple to operate and worked very well; manual operation does require an able bodied person to accompany wheelchair user. Purposely booked van very early due to holiday travel with Jennifer by internet, email and phone contact follow-up and was more than pleased with professional, courteous service and answers to specific queries regarding the van's accessible equipment. Pick-up contact with Jeff per Jenn's instructions at Kona Airport was extremely easy, van was waiting for us at the parking lot on arrival. Rental was pre-paid for the week and drop-off was equally simple after contacting Jeff with departure details day prior to our flight - texting was our main form of communication. Confirmed seat configuration (passenger seat removed) with him the day prior to travel. I have repeat experience with several accessible rental companies, therefore, need minimal instruction on use of most ramp/lift equipment having experience with many different systems over 30+ years of wheelchair use, this was by far the simplest manual ramp system I have used. Tie-down straps and seat belt were also easily manipulated. Novice renters may require more attentive, hands-on instruction with equipment use than I did. I was made aware at time of initial reservation that the ramp width was limited and my chair is less than 30 inches outside measurement wheel-to-wheel and I had no problems with use. But renters do need to know specific chair width and what the van ramp can accommodate. A 34-inch w/c width may be extremely tight on this van's ramp. Overall, the service experienced with Jennifer and Wheelers was exceptional and I would not hesitate to recommend use of their rental vans to anyone visiting Hawaii - any of the islands where they operate. My original rating was 1 star I have changed it to 3 stars after Jordan contacted me and has admitted fault with some processes in their business, as well as how their Maui Agent handled my situation.  I'm glad to hear they are making corrections and improving their business along with implementing new procedures in case their clients run into mechanical failure again. We rented an accessible mini van from Wheelers in Maui, Hawaii. On the way to one of Maui's main attractions "Hana" the mini van broke down getting stuck in park on Hana's first lookout views. We contacted Jennifer and she referred us to get in touch with her mechanic. When we finally reached the mechanic we were instructed that their would be a tow truck, mechanic or another van would be there within the hour. The mechanic also told us that their shop was not far from us and he was glad we were only at the first lookout point.  After about 1 1/2 to 2 hours no one had come as they stated.  We realized that no one was on the way, leaving us very frustrated, very hot and also hungry.  We continued to try to put the van in gear.  After many attempts and over a long period of time we finally get the van into the drive gear. We call the mechanic and let them know that we will drive the van to there shop since no one was coming to assist us. We get there and they had another van for us to switch out the current van but the replacement van was not fit to the specifications as the van we reserved or rented with the front passenger seat removed.  Needless to say for the rest of our vacation I would have to sit in the middle row. Another incident happened on the following day - the replacement van's remote key stopped working leaving us to figure out how to open the vehicle manually as there was no visible key on the remote.  We finally figured out how to "pop" the key out of its hiding place in the remote. Going back to "Hana" that day was no longer an option as we understood that it will take 3+ hours to get to the top of the mountain in Hana. That day was pretty much a complete loss, as I'm sure that no one has a back up plan on vacation when you're planning an all day trip. Sadly we never got to see "Hana" or travel the "Road to Hana".  The saddest part is that we have used other Accessible Van Rental Companies on the mainland and their vans have always been nicer and newer with automatic ramps and kneel for reasonably less or the same amount of money that we paid to Wheelers for this trip.  We chose to use Wheelers since we used them on Oahu, Hawaii several years back.  They treated us well on Oahu and Jennifer also remembered us as a repeat customer.  With everything that transpired we thought it would be reasonable to request a discount for our inconvenience.  Unfortunately we were ignored/shined off and never received a follow up call or email from Jennifer.  She told me that she would need to talk it over with the owner of Wheelers. LOL - she, along with her husband are the owners as their website so states. DO NOT USE THEM!!! read more

This accessible van rental company went above and beyond the call of duty. Our contact person Jennifer Wong was extremely helpful and graciously offered to drive us from the airport to the hotel. I have rented many accessible vans before and never had this service. We were extremely grateful because she made sure that we were able to get to our hotel and access proper parking. She also took us from hotel back to the airport upon our departure. This saved us from totally stressing out as it can be tricky finding one's way around a crowded city. We rented a van on 6/28-7/5 in Kona, Hawaii to use for a one week stay in Waikoloa. The van was sub-standard. The Wheelers' national website describes " plush" interiors, automatic ramps and vans that either raise or lower. This van had 91,000 miles on it . The in-floor tracks for the tie downs had not been maintained and it was nearly impossible to remove the q-straints for repositioning. The ramp was a heavy, manual ramp that seriously needed maintenance or at least an application of wd-40 to get it to slide with less resistance. The van did not lower, and the ramp was steep. The van had 2 q-straints and 2 belt tethers to anchor my wheelchair. Jeff the agent who delivered our van refused to show us how to operate the two tethers, and we were unfamiliar with them. He did tell us that the driver's seat wobbles but it wasn't a "safety concern". Boy did it wobble non-stop! Twenty-four hours after picking up our van (which we had only driven to our hotel and to dinner the second evening), the engine light went on! We called the agent Jeff who suggested that we must have used all the gas! He claimed that he maintains all the fluids in the car, and anyway there was nothing he could (or would) do about the problem. We just held our breath as the light went on and off at various times during that week. Also at one point, the brakes slipped when stopping at a stop sign at the bottom of a hill! I could not wait to give this van back. Also it was the most expensive vehicle I have ever rented. I was trying to avoid transferring in and out of sedans with a sliding board, but this was far worse! read more
