There are no public toilets either, although perhaps if you asked they'd open up something. There is a payphone if you need to call a cab on your arrival. The service is usually prompt and friendly, and there's never been much of a queue when I've been there. The other side has just a shelter. There's a car park that I would guess holds about 30 cars.

It's well looked after, clean, the staff are friendly, and as Isabel has pointed out it has heated waiting areas which is always a plus in the colder months of the year. :) I don't think there are any shops around here worth shopping at, though, if I'm completely honest. If you need a newsagents or something, sure, but otherwise don't bother.

The station and all trains calling at it, are operated by Northern Rail. This station is so much better now it has been refurbished. It is St. Helens main station so it's quite facilitated and it's fairly attractive. It is staffed the majority of the time so there is usually someone on hand to answer questions or get directions. The staff are also very helpful so if you need assistance, make sure you enquire. There is a long stay and short stay car park. The long stay does fill up early but it is free. It is convenient to hop on a train to Liverpool or Wigan and during the day they are quite regular. Overall, a decent train station with a modern and secure feel to it.

It is a staffed station so you feel quite safe and you can ask questions, but the booth is only on the Liverpool side not the Wigan side. There is a small car park that gets filled quickly and early in the morning. The trains are regular and there is a bus stop right outside that goes in to St Helens.

It's an old, old station, and apparently part of the original 1800's train line that ran through Liverpool and the surrounding cities. If for no other reason, I guess that merits a visit. There's not really much here, but as I love collecting train stations (along with parks, libraries, and book shops), I guess I kind of enjoyed the quiet charm. You won't find any toilets, shops, or café here.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on where it goes. It's a small station with not much else besides the basics. There is a pretty good car park, though, and a bus stop within the station grounds which is very handy. You can also walk to the town centre from the train station by heading straight across the street and up Kirkby Row, then up Cherryfield Drive. It's about a mile I think or maybe less.
