BH is a solid district. Only issue we endured was with an ineffective nurse at the high school. She was transferred to another school, but should not have been there in the first place. They have a small special education department and a strong athletic curriculum

Principals told me to "just lay low" and that the kids spreading the rumors, "is just not like them. They wouldn't do that". One of them then proceeded to sing leg it go from Frozen in hopes I'd "let it go". I am neurodivergent and an openly queer kid and they provided little protection from me getting bullied. Guidance counselors were great but little they could do about the bullying. Having a hard time at home and school, assistant principals have been looking for anything I could possibly doing wrong and calling me to the office in attempt to punish me for such as staying afterschool to finish my assignments(got permission from teacher) and taking frequent breaks during class(allowed in 504, crying in bathroom from exhaustion caused by constant verbal abuse at school and home) . School has very little diversity and anything that makes you stand out makes you a target for bullying. Prioritizes grades over mental health (not including guidance counselors, social workers, etc they're the only real support). It's comically ridiculous how administration handles conflict. I also witnessed a teacher joining in on bullying a kid who clearly had issues at home and emotional regulation issues, would poke fun at him such as ostracizing him because he reacted to harassment from peers and not understanding the class material. Some teachers are great though, (shout out Mr Hubbs, he's great) who take time and form bonds with students and understand that issues in personal life can affect academic performance, and it's not that "they don't care about school". School has pretty cool electives such as Metal smithing and fashion design, has a great art program. Teachers do a great job preparing students for exams like the Regents(excluding 2025 earth science because NYS changed the test and gave little guidance), the AP scores for world history and us history scored high on average. School has very interesting clubs too, but their is TPUSA, which is a Neo-nazi club. Fits the definition. Yikes. Academicly a good school, socially-very underperforming. As other review says, if you're not willing to conform to the social norms of the school, you're screwed. The middle school is basically the same, but guidance sucks too. Was very obvious I was depressed and self harming, still got bullied and harassed. Would get into physical and verbal fights with peers on a regular basis and staff made no intervention.

The campus is beautiful but most importantly the teachers are amazing educators who genuinely care for the students and often have their own children in the school. I spoke with Margie, in charge of Alumni Connections who told me to call back on Friday when she would have more time to speak with me and handle my issue. I remember feeling as if it can be handled right then and there when I explained it to her, and it wasn't so complicated. In fact the whole thing would have taken all but three minutes no matter how we resolved it. I left not one but two voice messages for her on that Friday at her request and she never called back. This was two weeks ago yesterday. I do not think she forgot and I don't think she is that busy. If she forgot to call back or didn't have time, then she can't handle her job very well. I feel as if it was done purposely though. If she does not want or is unable to cater to someone, there are more professional ways of handling it than telling a person to call in order not to call. I was surprised to see that such a fine institution as Hackley, hires staff that do not represent the extraordinary excellence they pride everyone else in their school in having; teachers, students and families. I think Hackley should have higher standards when screening out for certain roles such as Director of Alumni Engagement to better set an example for their students on how to interact with people.
