In an effort to eat healthier and lose weight, I went looking for a personal chef in San Francisco. Actually, this being SF, I went to all those on-demand startups like Sprig and Thistle, but I found they didn't really fit well for me: if you don't like the food, tough luck! Then I found Brigitte and White Apron. Brigitte's sent me a great intake questionnaire that went through what I liked, what I didn't--down to specific foods and ingredients. Brigitte and Collin then created meals catered to my tastes and calorie goals (paleo, ~700 calories/meal). Every week, I'd send in feedback on that week's food and we'd tweak things further (eg, cook asparagus in a certain way, no on specific spices, etc). Such a far cry from the on-demand food startups! The thing I loved the most about White Apron is the personal attention I got from the chefs about my likes, dislikes, and suggestions. I was recently invited to a dinner Brigitte was putting on for a friend of mine. She had recently moved to the area from New York and I was looking forward to a professionally home cooked meal. I was certainly not disappointed. Brigitte made a simple but well seasoned salad of fresh organic veggies and mixed herbs. This was complimented by a hearty, soul-warming lamb curry. I was delighted by her take on the curry. The meat was fork-tender and the spices were complex and savory but not overwhelming. I have had the deep pleasure of experiencing her cooking for years. Her quiet ability to skillfully execute a dining experience with warmth and creativity has emboldened my husband and I to convince her to move from New York City to San Francisco. Her love of cooking with fresh, organic and seasonal foods has finally convinced her to bring her talents to the West coast. I recently enjoyed a few dishes of hers that make my mouth water just reflecting on them. My other half does not eat anything except spaghetti with marinara and mac and cheese. We hired Bridgette to make us weight loss meals so that we could see the results of our personal training more rapidly. I was sure that there was going to be a lot of bitching and whining about low carbs and the number of veggies contained in the food. After she cooked everything in our kitchen in just a few hours (and rented a car to come out to the east bay) and cleaned up my kitchen (spotless) I was thinking I was going to have to eat all the food given my picky partner but BOY was I wrong. We both LOVE LOVE LOVE Bridgette's food. It is healthy and hearty. She made us portions and I was afraid I was going to have the "diet" hunger I always have when I cook low cal for myself but with Bridgette I am always more than satisfied by the amount of food and the weight loss. read more

I recently was invited to a friend's place to share a home cooked dinner prepared by White Apron Chef, Brigitte Theriault. The meal was obviously well thought out and lovingly prepared, and I was glad to have been asked along. To start, we enjoyed a delicious Meditteranean inspired salad of organic veggies. In addition to being a visually appetizing combination, the crunchy texture and tangy flavors of the salad were a tasty surprise. For the main dish, Brigitte cooked up a hearty yet light Lamb curry, served over rice. The meat was so flavorful and tender - it practically melted in my mouth! (Even though I was already full, I had to go back for a second helping.) I would recommend Brigitte's cooking to anyone who wants a delicious and healthy meal carefully crafted with fresh ingredients and interesting flavors. Brigitte is an amazing chef! You will love her food. She has been a personal chef for my family since early 2008, and we have been so happy. Our household includes me and my spouse as well as our four (yes, 4!) children, and it is very busy. Brigitte comes one time per week, spends several hours, and prepares enough food to last us the entire week. Her food is always fresh, organic and healthy. We have her create mainly entrees, but she also makes sides, salads or soups each week. After cooking, she puts the food in storage containers, sticks them in the fridge and lets me know how to re-heat them. Oh, most importantly, before she leaves, she cleans the entire kitchen and puts everything back in it's place. Wow! Brigitte is also a very versatile chef. I am a vegetarian, so I have her make mainly vegetarian dishes, which are awesome! However, when we have family visiting she makes meat dishes which they rave about, as well. She sometimes cooks very elegant, adult fare for our dinner parties. At other times, we have her make more family friendly meals. My children love her food and eat it for dinner every evening. That is to say, we don't feed them chicken nuggets while we eat what Brigitte cooked. No, we ALL eat together the wonderful, healthy, tasty dishes she has prepared. She is also very flexible. She will cook what I ask her to cook or she will suggest a broad range of items and allow me to choose or she will just decide herself what to make that week. It just depends on what works for me at the time. Additionally she takes feedback beautifully. She truly wants to make things that we enjoy, so she asks for our preferences, asks what we liked (or didn't), and modifies accordingly. Hmmmm... what else? I took a cooking class with Brigitte with a small group of friends and was very satisfied by the experience. The class was very personal and comfortable as it was just a few of us. She is extremely knowledgable and was very gracious and answered all of our silly questions. There was so much very basic info we didn't know! The biggest benefit for me was learning how to keep cooking simple. I tend to over think things and end up getting overwhelmed. Cooking isn't as scary anymore. Brigitte cooked for my husband's 40th birthday party, and she was absolutely first rate. We hosted 12 people for dinner and she provided delicious and beautiful appetizers, a full dinner and lovely dessert.
