Date of service: 12.8.24 Ambiance: this was the first time I've been inside of a White Castle restaurant. I've only known the walk up ones when I was younger, so this was a surprise. It was clean and appeared to be renovated. The dining area was small. One table for 4 and a bench style eating area for maybe another 4-5 ppl. Food: now here's where this got tricky. I was sure that I was going to have burgers but there were so many choices. They had breakfast options, chicken sandwiches, sloppy joes, hash browns and more. When the woman asked could she take our order, we had to let someone else go in front of the 7 of us! All in all, it was tasty but it wouldn't be something I'd order each time I visit Jersey. First thing is make sure you lock your doors - car, house, apartment, whatever it is lock that up tight. And second you go to White Castle. And there you have it. On to the review: Place was a bit dirty. The staff was a bit short. There was a guy bumming change out front and a guy in a 90's Honda bumping rap with all his windows open. So yeah super Newark. But the burgers were perfectly greasy and oniony with pickles in their little boxes. The buns were toasted and warm and delicious. The fries were hot and crispy and we smashed them all. It's like you know you shouldn't like it but because it's like a guilty pleasure. Pro-tip: bring someone who's never been. It's something you need to try at least once. Twice is too much lol. This has got to be the worst White Castle I have ever been to. First off, it took over 10 minutes for me to get 4 sliders and a drink with NOBODY in front of me in the drive thru. After I pay and get my order, the employees walk away from the drive they window without giving me my credit card back. I patiently wait a minute or two and then honk my horn to catch their attention. The employees opens the window and seems bothered. She asks "what do you need?" And I responded "my card and a receipt"... that became story time amongst the employees until they finally found my card and returned it. My food looked like someone made it blindfolded! I grew up on these burgers and this place always brings back good memories, but I think it's time to put White Castle behind me. They are much faster than the other WC. Most of the time, my order (I use the app) is ready on arrival. One consistent problem is that they ALWAYS get my order wrong. I am a long time Castle fan. When you get the crave it must be satisfied. I've been coming to this location for a while as its on the way home. The location is dicey but I do the drive through. The people who work there are exceptionally nice despite the bad neighborhood factor. I even have come here for breakfast on the road which is the best fast food breakfast hands down. While at the drive thru window I saw a female employee use her finger to loosen food stuck in her tooth and spit it out on the grill. On the fuckin grill! where food is being cooked. And when she looked up she made direct eye contact with me. She knew I saw her and when I told the lady at the window she tried to play it off. I was initially standing in line for several minutes before anyone acknowledged my presence then a person came with an unpleasant attitude and asked what I wanted to order. I asked for the Bistro turkey burger and asked what comes on it. She replied "I dont know" and was clearly visibly agitated by my question. Demetrius is an incredible asset to this location. Lets face it folks, we don't go to White Castle, home of the "rat", for great service. In fact, we show up drunk half the time hoping to balance the hangover potential. I was passing through beautiful downtown Irvington while on my way back to Tampa recently and decided to pack a few rats for the kiddies. This is by far my favorite White Castle location. Although this one isn't the closest to my home, the extra 10 minute drive is much worth it. I love white castle but this one...the staff is so rude and clearly have a lack of management. Their attitudes towards each other over the microphone is ridiculous. They all appear out of control.
