Incredibly disappointed this year, both with our Thanksgiving meal pick-up and our Christmas meal pick-up. On both occasions unprepared and sitting and waiting. For Thanksgiving dinner we ordered several items with a pick-up time noted. It wasn't ready so we waited and on top of it when asking for the heating directions (as provided years prior) the woman talked down to me. I was not aware of the change of packaging and that now they freeze and add directions on a label on that package. For Christmas is was a horrible experience. We ordered the food hot as we drive an hour to support the facility we wanted to come straight home to eat. The meal was not ready at all. The steaks they were providing were sliced like lunch meat and not what was in the photo. Then when they provided for take home they were not cooked at all and frozen. The salad seemed a small portion for 5-6 people. We recieved no buns or rolls and butter at all. And the wait time was an hour or more. We've not had this issue in the past as we are always pleased as are our guests. This time not only were we late, but then having to cook we were also late for eating. Also, the sides of polish sausage and kraut for 5 was not enough. The food was delicious as always. Not sure what happened this year, but we're seriously considering a new place to order from moving forward. The faciliy was decorated beautifully for the holidays as it always is. read more

Attended a 70th Birthday party and was so disappointed. I have been to White Eagle so many times over several decades and enjoyed Polish family style dinners. It was sad to see the once busy venue empty on a Saturday evening, and in need of a refresh. Our dinner did not have any of the traditional polish food, but started with a salad... and than we waited over 20 minutes for our entrée. It was family style and the portions did not allow for anyone to have seconds. Dessert was served after another long wait and was a frozen chocolate mousse, maybe they were waiting for it to thaw. It was disappointing to see a once thriving banquet hall serve subpar food . read more

Went to the cemetery then decided to see if we could get in White Eagle for an Easter meal for 4. The food actually was not bad. We came at 2:15, sat down and started to get food. Before we even got comfortable, they were cleaning up putting food away. So $300.00 later we were basically treated like garbage! All they had to do was tell us they close at 3 when we got there. read more

Past authentic. If you'd like to try a variety I'd recommend the family style entree. We started with salad (traditional) and czarina soup. A favored Polish soup. Then we had coleslaw along bread and real butter. Then came dinner with mashed potatoes, green beans, chicken liver pasta along with two choices of pierogis we selected sauerkraut and potato. Our meats included roasted chicken, cabbage rolls (golumpki) and polish sausage. If that wasn't enough we finished it off with some cookies and cheesecake bites. We went recently to the Easter brunch. While the food was lovely, the prices did go up quite a bit over the last year. Given the rise in prices, it seems absurd to charge for soft drinks above the cost of the brunch. My family spent nearly $1000 for our party of 16. We prepaid with the reservation. Yet after the brunch we are handed a $30 bill for soft drinks. Again, that just seems absurd. After the brunch, I looked at competing menus and prices for equivalent brunches and I think we may start exploring other options, which is a shame as we have consistently being doing this brunch for years. But the price is much higher than other places and the drink bill put it over the edge. The grass may not be greener at these other places, but it's worth exploring. read more

I used to come here with family years ago when I was a child. I remember always getting a family style meal that started out with our choice or chicken dumpling or beef barley soup. The meal consisted of chicken, polish sausage, beef, potatoes, sauerkraut, vegetables, etc and an array of deserts. The white table cloths, the music, the atmosphere was of something you just can't experience anymore. Being a child at the time you can get antsy waiting for the food but the building is an event hall so walking down the corridor hearing all of the celebrations going on (and taking a peek inside) was one of my favorite things to do. The White Eagle is now just a wonderful memory for me now after the retirement of the original owners. A place where I embraced my polish heritage. read more

This review is for the catering side of the business as well as the happy hour. As a member of a professional organization for my work, this is one of the places that they hold our monthly meetings. For value, you can't beat it. Typically we pay $35 to attend the meeting to hear various speakers. The price includes use of the room and dinner. The food is solid and filling....you get soup, an entree (choice of meat/poultry or veggie option) and dessert. They also serve some really great breads and real sticks of butter (no individual containers). Because our meetings using start at 5:30 pm, you get to take advantage of the Happy Hour in the bar. Again, for the venue, it is not bad. Wine list is very limited, but drinkable if you are drinking a white. Can't speak to the reds as I don't drink them, but they did not have a merlot when we were there yesterday. Happy Hours is 2 for 1 drinks if you are sitting at the bar (2 glasses of wine for $6.25), so get there early to do your two and out before your meeting starts. Kind of old skool as the bartender left a shot glass at the bar as a marker for your next drink. He also brought out some snacks that were pretty good...grilled sausages and onions and meatballs served in small bowls with small plates. The sausage was really good and I wanted to eat more, but knew I had dinner waiting for me. I would recommend this place for meetings if you want to rent a room and serve dinner. read more

I have been coming here since I was 5. My favorite memories were with my grandparents. Great polish food. The mushroom barley soup still tastes the same. I would have brought some home if I wasnt flying. Bummer the traditional restaurant is closed but they do have a deli with a couple of indoor tables to dine in. read more

The White Eagle has been the go to banquet center in Near NW Chicago for over 50 years. They can accomodate groupss as small as 6 or as large as 1500. When we were there in their restaurant today, there were four events going on somewhere else in the massive hall. The menu is Polish, as the location, on Milwaukee Avenue, is just a short jog up from the Polish center of Chicago. Chicago is the largest Polish population concentration in the world, after Warsaw. The best deal, for two or more people, is the "Host Family Style Dinner", at $10.50 per, includes soup or salad, bread basket, two types of pierogies, noodles, mashed potatoes, and three entrees. On the latter, we opted for sausage/kraut, chicken, and goulash. The server goofed and brought us brisket in gravy instead of the sausage, but when it was pointed out, quickly brought the sausage (and left the brisket!). These very ample servings, and while there is a "no seconds" policy, you are able to take home the leftovers, and I'm sure we have enough for another two meals. The taste, quality was top-notch. Certainly not what you would expect from a banquet type facility. For a couple bucks more, you can add a soup or salad (whatever you didn't opt for on the previous menu, and dessert). read more

I was here after a funeral for a close family member. When you first walk in you can see how large this facility is but you walk into a building that is outdated. It looks like the last time this place was renovated was the early 80s. We had a group of 20 people with a prearranged reservation coming from the burial. We were escorted to tables in a big ball room with 2 other funeral luncheons going on. We had no privacy as we were all in this ball room together. The staff and the food were excellent. The facility needs to be upgraded stat. read more

We went here on Mother's Day for their family style @3:00 party of 5 . We have been here for Thanksgiving and Easter before and it was always pretty good. The service has never been the best and could def use improvement all around. We were given a random table w plates and glasses on the table and nothing else . Our waitress had the driest personality, no hello , didn't tell us her name, or welcome us on Mother's Day. Could hardly even hear her talking. She gave us us our drinks and bread . We had to take butter from the table next to us and asked for utensils and napkins . One piece of bread each so we asked for more bread and more butter and more water bc the glasses for about a half cup of water in each glass. A party sat about a half hour after us and they got their food first while we were told it was almost ready . And I would think if she was waiting for it to get done it should have been burning hot ... not even a little ALL of the food was warm and some was even cold . Worst meal ever !!! There was so much rosemary in the chicken we couldn't even eat it, carrots were ice cold, and the rest was just so so . It was $30 a person !!!! Which is ridiculous bc not one of us ate even $15 worth of food . We were all livid and couldn't wait to leave , seeing we were there for 2 1/2 hours !!! They told some of us they had no large take home boxes and some got large boxes . We got all small ones and the ham leaked all over the bag so that topped off the awful meal we had! My moms first choice was Portillos , she regrets not sticking with her first choice . I wrote White Eagle a Letter telling them how disappointed we were with their food and horrible service , we will see if they respond to me but def not returning there agai UPDATE !!! Extremely good, hearty, family style dishes with a strong Polish influence. Always a treat to end up at The White Eagle or their restaurant. Wow this place has really gone down the drain. We having been having major family events here for as long as I can remember. What a complete waste of money. We had a funeral luncheon today after a family funeral, there were about thirty of us, as soon as we walk in, a woman, I'm guessing the banquet manager asked if everyone was here. I said no not yet they are following from the cemetery. No more then two minutes later she asked again, and then again. This woman was rushing us to sit, as we were seating she was trying to instruct us where to sit and wanted us to sit on her command! I repeatedly communicated these seats are for people parking their vehicles. She was rude, impatient and extremely condescending. The food is not what anyone in our party remembered, the coffee was cold, the bread was dry, the soup was room temperature, the chicken was dry like it had been heated in the microwave, the only good that came out hot to our table was the mashed potatoes. The cake was so dry it crumbled with a touch from the fork. This was a meal after a funeral, we were conversing with family we hadn't seen in years, and yet our plates were snatched before we had finished with them, servers were reaching over our heads to collect stuff from the table, which resulted in a server spilling soup on a child because she was rushing, (thank god for the cold soup) This place has no life to it anymore, and it's such a shame. I recommend people to celebrate elsewhere. I can't even say the whole dining experience was mediocre, it totally sucked and such a waste of money read more

I grew up on White Eagle. Company Christmas parties, family dinners, date night, and more, have all taken me back to White Eagle. The family style dinner in their restaurant is the thing of memories. From the polish sausage and sauerkraut, to the pierogis, to the kluski casserole, it all is so warm, comforting, and nostalgic. And done right. If you're looking for good polish food done right, with no frills, look no further than the White Eagle. And after you've finished your meal and are already dreaming of more, stop by the little market inside, and get some deliciousness to take home!!! read more

Very Polish banquet hall on the NW side. If you live here and have Polish heritage, you have probably been here for a weeding or funeral or two. There are lots of people that really like the food here. I never got into Polish food. The chicken is good, as are salads and portions are unlimited. Soda is by Filberts, a local brand that was only at Polish banquets but in the new packaging has become quite trendy as real sugar / cane sugar is an in thing these days. No kidding. I was here last Saturday for a Germanic celebration, and while I wasn't blow away by the decor and food, I wasn't entirely disappointed either. Our group had 525 people in it, and White Eagle seemed to do a nice job of accommodating all of us and our lederhosen. Facility was well-lit, bathrooms were clean. Bar prices were average, 'tenders were friendly. Kudos to the one who poured me a beer even though I didn't have my ID on me (rare nowadays with that stupid 'we card hard if you look under 30', and I look WAY under 30). For the 'family style' meal, I honestly expected more/better. The noodle soup was anemic, but the salad was fine. Polish sausage with sauerkraut was OK, but the chicken entree was lacking. I didn't get a chance to try the beef in gravy. The mashed potatoes were AWESOME. Dessert was a small sampler that included several types of kolacky and other assorted sweets, which was pretty good. Since the sampler was small and my table was populated by mostly sweet-toothed folks, I asked for a 2nd tray, which never came. I used to work in catering so I saw my fair share of jaw-dropping banquet halls. White Eagle probably runs in the middle of the pack, as it were, with decent food & service and ample parking. I'd recommend this place for anyone planning a party whose guests number in the hundreds. read more

Let me preface my review with the fact that I had a social deal for this place and I had never heard of it or been there before. The deal was a good deal, but a little perplexing as it was a family style dinner for two. What two people can eat family style and do it justice? So needless to say we brought most of it home with us. Let's start with the food, it was OK. The standouts, the mushroom barley soup, the golabki, the brisket, and the sausage. I was brave and tried the duck blood soup, it was not bad, but a new one on me so I have no basis for comparison. Washed it down with some zywiec beer. The service was fine, although I can see how the one guy they have working the tables could put some people off. Let's talk first impressions which is really what will hit you about this place - Pulling up in the drive way at 7:30pm on a Thursday night the place was absolutely dead. I mean really dead. We had the entire place to ourselves. I felt like a mobster minus the italian. Without knowing the venue that well, I would hazard a guess at two things: 1) This place does very well with the early bird senior crowd 2) This place does the majority of it's business in banquet type events The upside to having the place to ourself turned out to be that my wife and I were able to totally focus on each other with minimal distraction throughout the meal. Would I go here for dinner again? Probably not because, although the meal was fine, the application just seems too akward at this type of venue. If you have ever done any business travel, one could say it is synonomous to eating in an empty formal hotel dining room alone. read more

Went there for Easter brunch it was HORRIBLE! Way to many people in one banquet room. Basically went there because of there at one time delicious Polish food. Tables set up as buffet style that they couldn't even keep up with for people who were ready to fill their plate with food. We went the the restaurant for the first time in a long time, I really had forgotten how good all the food is. We had family style as we normally would, Chicken livers and noodles, mashed potatoes, Baked Chicken , roast beef, Sausage and Kraut, and pierogies. It's a steal for all the food you get. We now plan on making it a family tradition to visit for all special occasions... It's a bit of of a drive for us but well worth it. Oh and the Mushroom Barley soul is still the best! read more

Went to the deli for a take-out... one person working and about eight people ahead of us. The service was slow, people waiting over a half hour for phoned in orders. The service has gone down hill ever since the new ownership. I have been coming to funerals and banquets here since the early 1980's and have not seen this bad level of service ever! White Eagle is nostalgic in the Polish-American community. Home of many community and family events over the decades. So we opted for Easter brunch there this year. I expected a bit of cheesiness and basic food without much glitz. But I was not prepared for how bad it was. The facility is run down and dirty. Bathrooms - gross. Food - edible, if you could get past the way it looked at the buffet. (That was a feat three of our groups could not accomplish. They ate some cookies.) Dirty and chipped dishes. Music playing was country- seemed completely random during Easter. Just everything was dingy and sort of nauseating. I did not expect that for $60 per person (plus sodas extra). We were there today as we buried my grandma at the cemetery across the street and as her wishes wanted the family to celebrate her at lunch. This place has continued to decline . If felt like they wanted to get us out as quickly as possible . The warm bread came and had to wait for the butter, which came a while later and was frozen, the mushroom barley soup was just okay. When we called we had asked we were able to order drinks and we were told when the waitress comes we can place an order. We wanted to honor my grandma with her favorite drink but couldn't do that because we were told the bar was not open. We requested white meat chicken but most of us got thighs and wings which we don't like. They told us we would get assorted pierogi, we just asked for no meat. We all got mushroom and sauerkraut which major did not like. We should have been told upfront it would be the chefs choice. As soon as the food came out, they were in a hurry to take it away it seemed. Our dessert was supposed to assorted pastries. We each got a cookie with jam in the middle and a 1x1 piece of cake that wasn't that great. Not impressed with the food , service or price of what we got. I do not recommend this place read more

We hosted our annual volunteer appreciation luncheon here. The setup was great. Everything was arranged just how we asked. Family style proved to be more than enough and the servers provided us with to go boxes. The food was delicious. We ordered the roast chicken, beef tenderloin, polish sausage, pierogis, carrots, a tomato mozzarella salad, their mushroom barley soup, and assorted pastries. The soup is their signature soup and it was amazing. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because there was confusion with beverages for the event. We knew it'd be a cash bar but had been told soda and ice tea were included in the price of food. Our initial guests were told by the bartender they had to pay for them. It took longer than expected for the host to tell us it wasn't included but they did eventually allow us to run an open tab and pay after the event was done. This place is unbelievably terrible. My Grandma worked here in it's heyday and it's nothing that it was. We booked my Mom's pretty traumatic funeral luncheon here and they had no recollection of our reservation. We were seated in the bar area which is tacky and understaffed. They also had skeletons and other halloween decorations that are extremely inappropriate and upsetting. The food is terrible now that it's run by German people. German food is gross under-seasoned, over-sweetened Polish food. Disgusting. The staff have no idea what they're doing. It took at least 45 minutes to get a beer. Food was not good and we will never host a party here after 50 years of good Polish memories. read more

Wish I took some photos of the holiday decor but somehow I didn't. I say boo to the people that are down on the look and feel of the place - it's called character and the sort that has charm unique to itself. The servers were friendly and capable and mostly Polish. The food wasn't all that great, but there were a few standouts: barley mushroom soup by far the best, mashed potatoes, coleslaw (no mayo) and bread. The Filberts were so-so. You know, Filberts ... Attended a banquet event here - the worst ever. Food was ok, but terrible service - waitress would not give me a clean knife unless I gave her the dirty one first. Soda was completely dead flat, including the replacement pitcher. 50 minutes between salad plates removed and entree served. Our table was done and cleared while other tables had not yet been served. Very sad to see the steady decline in this annual charity event at this location over last 10 years. Now seems just a shabby relic of the 80s. read more

I would never go back to this restaurant. Recently my father passed away and was buried at the cemetery across the street. Because they were across the street we inquired about using them for the lunch after. The woman on the phone was very rude and sounded irritated because I was asking questions. After checking out other restaurants in the area, I realized they they were charging 1% higher tax than everyone around them. They are greedy and rude and I would never use them. read more

Booked a catered memorial luncheon. We have had many family functions at White Eagle over the past several decades and chose this venue for location (cemetery across the street) and tradition. Living out of state I had to plan everything over email/phone. Gabi was a pleasure to work with in planning the luncheon, quick to answer any questions or make changes. Dusanka provided excellent service during event. Service was very good, all servers friendly and efficient. They were able to accommodate more people than expected on short notice. Funeral ran long, and kitchen was able to move serving time 30 minutes later. Food was good, we chose standard polish food, family style. Facility has not changed in many years, could use updating and better maintenance. Overall family was happy we stuck with tradition and chose White Eagle for this special luncheon. read more

We had a family party here the other day. A bit disappointing. The price wasn't too bad at $17 per person ( soda not included) however this place is not how it used to be We paid $125 for a bartender. The alcohol was terrible. I think they mixed bottom shelf into certain liquors. Like I had a Captain Morgan and coke and it tasted a little like Captain and a lot like bottom shelf Bacardi. Disappointing especially when it's $6-8 a glass. My friend had the same thing and it tasted like whiskey. Really weird. They are definitely cutting the liquor. We didn't even drink it. My friend returned it the bartender which he didn't seem happy about it then gave her the same exact drink. Next, we had Sprite at each table and it was plain carbonated water. No syrup. So also some of the alcohol drinks again tasted like water and liquor. Also the bartender wanted to leave before the party was even over. It was less then a 3 hr party and we paid $125 for him. The food was ok. Just luke warm. It was served family style and when we asked for more they just brought a small serving. I think other restaurants do this but we had 10 people at our table and they didn't bring enough for everyone the first serving then they bring 5 addition pieces of chicken ( 3 were wings). Lastly one of the male workers went into the women's washroom. He was leaving as I was going in. Another worker said it's ok. No it's not. We had a large party there with many women. We seem to be the only party on a Tuesday there. He could have waited until we left. The waitresses were ok. One was really good. She made up for the other one. They forgot napkins at each table and parmesan cheese for the pasta. I had to keep asking for basics. read more

8/22/15 An era is gone.... Ive never even thought of reviewing The White Eagle but sadly today I am. Been going to this place for 35 years. Weddings, funerals, showers...my very own wedding 33 years ago. In Between we would go, just because, because of the fabulous food. Well that time has gone. Its over. A group of seven if us went yesterday to find that Victoria Banquettes have taken over. Ive been there also. Very good food. This review is 1 star because The White Eagle chefs are gone and took their recipes. The mushroom soup, the beef, the chicken, the noodles with liver, the cole slaw, the polish sausage...all different and to be honest it was all bland. All seven of us at the table left sad. Good bye White Eagle food - forever. Victoria's do what you do best as far as food goes, and do yourself a favor don't recreate what you can not. On a high note the service was attentive and spot on. read more
