Outstanding food in an upscale but casual dining setting. We split an appetizer of fried Brie with pear, berries compote and roast garlic, served with toast rounds. Wonderful! The Kung Pao short ribs were tender and the miso salmon was moist. Both came with grilled bell peppers, asparagus and a large heap of skin-on mashed potatoes. They have a great menu and attentive service. We were passing through, but if we lived in PG we would be here all the time! read more

The service was friendly and quick. The atmosphere was very nice, although we were right beside the bar and they kept dropping stuff which startled us. Our food choices were very tasty, except for the blackened chicken on the spinach salad bowl. The chicken was just grilled almost tasted boiled and had a hot sauce poured all on it. It was not blackened chicken. One person ordered a starter salad and got a whole salad. The same person also ordered crabcakes appetizer and received stuffed mushrooms instead. The chef burger was very good, tasted excellent. The baked brie appetizer was exceptional, very tasty, and easily shared by two people. The server was very apologetic for the errors in our order, and made reconciliation for those errors . I am visiting the city of Prince George from the Dayton Ohio area in the USA. I ordered for delivery and got it through Skip the Dish promptly. I ordered the Roasted Leg of Lamb Wellington..... After such great reviews, i expected great or at least good food. The leg of lamb turned out to be dry, over cooked, flavorless shaved meat (i question whether it was actually lamb) stuffed in a puff pastry and then covered in a too sweet and overwhelming sauce that made it a soggy mess. The sauce was everywhere and was disgusting. Why not put it on the side to be poured prior to serving or consuming to preserve the integrity of the pastry shell? Stopped in for lunch on a wet Thursday.. We had the $11 lunch special chicken fingers which came with fries and salad, and was a good size for lunch. The real star was the spaghetti with bison ragu! I haven't had as good of a pasta dish in a long time. The pasta was exactly al dente, which after five minutes was perfect. The ragu was well balanced and overall the dish was incredible. We also had the fish tacos which were ok/so-so, with a suggestion to not be battered. read more

My sister and I just went here the other night and it was my 2nd time being there. Decor: clean, small, lovely, romantic Food: I personally don't like to spend over 22$ on an entree, so we did appetizers and drinks -Brie cheese: fricken delicious and unique - they bread it in panko I believe and deep fry - unreal * AND comes with enough bread - trust them -Garlic prawns: fair sized portion of beautiful shrimp. Food was delicious and perfectly cooked. I had the chicken and brie sandwich and even the ciabatta bun was toasted to perfection. My husband had the duck leg and it was so tender it fell off the bone, but was completely crisped on the outside (which is my husband's favorite way to have meat). Prices are fair, but I would recommend to the business that they add another duck leg to the dish even if it means raising the price a little. The quantity wasn't filling. read more

The best Prince George restaurant!!! If you love great food then checking out the White Goose is an absolute must. I can't say enough about the superb food we've enjoyed at this restaurant. Ryan puts his heart and soul into his creations and always goes the extra mile. I can't believe that they even smoke their own cheese...the best cheese i have ever tasted. The steak is unbelievable and the seafood is something that most people only dream about. The only drawback here is the price. If price is not an issue then i am sure you will enjoy the best food of your life. My favorite Prince George restaurant for sure. read more

I've decided this will be my last review of White Goose. Am I bored? No. Has their quality fallen? Of course not. But talking and posting about White Goose Bistro by this point is like walking up to random strangers and discussing how awesome Star Wars is. I mean everyone gets it, we're all on the same page. It's one of those natural laws we accept as fact. Grass is green; water is wet; sky is blue; women have secrets; White Goose is an amazing restaurant. In my recent article covering the Northern Taste challenge, I compared head chef Ryan Cyre to Thannos from Guardians of the Galaxy. White Goose had the best table at the recent Summerfest Taste Pavilion and won the recent BCNE Northern Taste Challenge. My recent visit to their actual restaurant was marked by a visit by actor Ron Perlman and celebrity chef/author Bob Blumer. And even with those eminent patrons, Ryan still made a point to approach my table personally to discuss a dish I had ordered. There are great chefs in Prince George--fact--but I have yet to find one with the passion for food like Ryan. He lives and breathes good food. I doubt he sweats sweat; more likely he sweats béchamel sauce...which...admittedly sounds disgusting, but you get my point. And he gathers around him colleagues who match his passion, who strive for that high quality. This includes his sister, running front of house, who could also be a better baker than him. In a previous review I had mentioned that White Goose was a revolutionary experience for such a small town, nailing a coffin in the accusation that restaurants in Prince George cannot be and should not be critiqued on the same grounds as those in Vancouver and that local restaurants can never hope to achieve the echelon of quality boasted by the likes of celebrity chefs and Michelin star establishments in larger cities. I also mentioned that White Goose should be that special place you take your loved one for birthdays and anniversaries, and not where you take a girl you met the day before on your first date. It's a foodie's heaven, and when I die far in the future from, hopefully, a failed heart after a night of constant debauchery on my 99th birthday, and I gain the Matrix-like ability to construct my own heaven like Robin Williams in What Dreams May Come (I'll miss him), there will be a spot where a White Goose will sprout...because it wouldn't be a heaven without it. And that would be the end of it, a proper close to the review, but I love gushing about the food. I started with the grilled polenta served with a mouth-watering porcini mushroom reduction and followed that with seared tuna with grilled risotto. The main was also fringed by a fistful of spring beans, which I usually don't finish but totally cleaned up. There was a dessert, I remember, but didn't take a photo of it, chocolate cake with butter pecan sauce I believe. Now don't get me wrong, I still love North 54 and Twisted Cork, but I plan my year around the days I can save up for White Goose. It's just worth it. And returning back to the Star Wars metaphor, sure, every year films get made that win best picture Oscars, and that's all good, but Star Wars is just...well...Star Wars. ...unless JJ Abrams screws it up...which he totally could. Coming to a small town from the Bay Area and Portland, we enjoyed this restaurant. The service was great and friendly. The food was good, we hear from the locals it is one of the best in Prince George. We would give it 3 stars if it were in the Bay Area or Portland but we are rounding up for good measure. The salads were excellent and their house champagne vinaigrette quite nice. Prices were steeper than we expected with entrees $24-36. We would certainly go again. Great seafood pasta. read more

I dont come to Prince George often but when I do I always make it a point to visit the White Goose Bistro. Last time I came here a party of 6+ of us had the chef inspired full course meal and it was sublime. Every item that came to our table was amazing and we all left extremely happy and extremely full. I recently had lunch there as well. I had the club sandwich which was quite good. I am excited to come back and try more stuff off their menu! read more

An excellent dining experience! My wife and I dine there regularly and have always enjoyed the food, the ambience, and the service. Of special note is the five or seven course tasting menus, which are always seasonal and always a treat. Interestingly, the lobster ravioli is a perpetual favourite on the menu. read more

This place is absolutely amazing, had the ribs and chicken with spinach and artichoke dip to start and it was outrageously delicious cooked to perfection and the flavours with sooooo good, currently my highest rated restaurant in town. Overpriced. Quality is average by comparison to a cosmopolitan fine dining establishment. The room itself requires considerable upgrades. Serving staff was kind enough but I was put-off by the smell of freshly smoked cigarettes every time a plate was placed in front of me. Unimpressive beer and cocktail list. Do not get sucked into a prix fixed menu unless you and your guests intend on getting blackout drunk. read more

We went to the White Goose Bistro in mid January and were disappointed with the service. There were only six people in the restaurant but we did not receive adequate attention. Two girls took turns coming to our table, and we could hear them talking very loudly a few feet away gossiping. That affected the ambience of the restaurant and my date and I felt like we could not have a conversation. Our drinks went empty and we did not receive a request to get another. No complaints whatsoever with the food though, it was excellent. It just was not a comfortable atmosphere and service was mediocre. For a dinner costing over $120.00 for dinner, we expected more. read more

Twice at this restaurant and both times food was underwhelming. First time was looking for an outstanding French Onion Soup. Instead I got a bowl of consommé with slices of raw onion floating around, and a couple small wedges of cheese bread. Second time, saw the chef in a filthy chef jacket and thought "oh crap, this does not bode well". Had a beef dip with fries. The ciabatta was fresh, the fries were fresh, but the beef tasted stale and the dip "old". I don't know how else to describe it. Usually it's 3 strikes and you're out, but in the case of food two strikes is usually my max. Sorry White Goose Bistro. Will be looking elsewhere next time in PG. read more

Had the honour of being a guest at a private Christmas party. Atmosphere was cozy and intimate. Service was fantastic, four course dinner was amazing. Was so nice to go to a large group Christmas party that was not buffet. Truly a gourmet dining experience with the food to match. What a complete waste of $180!!!!! We went here about 18 months ago and had a great meal. On saturday we went for my birthday meal - big mistake!! Absolutely dreadful everything was deep fried -wife's crab cakes were cold even on second attempt! Lobster ravioli tasted like a tin on Heinz! Deep fried lamb shank ? Disgusting and greasy. And most annoying was the waitress who would not acknowledge or very existence I had to walk over to the bar area 4 times for 1. Wine list 2. Black pepper 3. Parmesan cheese 4. Very tasty, lives up to its great reputation. I like going here for lunch they have a $10, 10 minute, 10 items menu that is pretty good and its quick. Fish isn't really their thing but the truffle fries, salads and sandwiches are quite tasty. I'd recommend it to any downtown worker or person passing through town looking for a tasty lunch (they are open for dinner as well). Cool decor, it reminds me a bit of San Francisco. read more

The GF and I were in PG last week and wanted to go to our once a year Cimo's visit for dinner but they were all booked up till late evening. No way we were gonna wait till 8pm to eat. So I check out Yelp for restaurant ratings and reviews and notice White Goose Bistro is ranked very high. And after reading about the $99 surf and turf deal. i was sold. When we got there we ordered 2 beers right off the bat. I have ordered thousands of beers at restaurants and bars throughout my life and never have I had a beer brought to me that was as cold as the ones our server brought to us. No need to look at the menu as we knew exactly what we were gonna order. Our server assured us there would be enough food for the both of us. I took her word for it and she did not disappoint. The rib eye steaks were grilled to perfection and the Lobster tails weren't overcooked like most places will do. The Prawns and scallops were superb and not deep fried like many others do. The girl let us know that the price for the surf and turf will go up in the new year. My response was "it's worth at the least $120-140." And people will pay that amount if the food came out as consistent as what we experienced. I will be back and try to take down the same meal all by my self next time. The service is unprofessional. Most of the items we desired that were on the menu weren't available. The special wasn't available because it wasn't ready. The waitress didn't even take our orders for main course until after we were finished the appetizers and the plates gone. She was not friendly and would talk while walking away.
