Second stop here while traveling the Alaska Highway. Wasn't expecting brunch, but I found a gf option in the chicken & Brie sandwich and upgraded to soup, spicy Mediterranean chickpea. When I told the server how much I loved it, she brought the ingredient list so I can recreate it. Almost as delish as the macro bowl I had in February. Meeting a few friends for a late supper and drinks we stumbled back in to Nancy O's. OMG, they remember us and STILL roll out the red carpet! Hmmmm. The menu has a nice variety and the staff are very friendly. They make a terrific poutine and a couple folks at our table raved about the burgers. I'm not much of a miso aficionado, two of my friends, Dale and Joy are. They say the veggie sesame miso is a masterpiece. No kidding, I caught Joy licking the empty bowl! For crying out loud, I'll buy you another! lol. Three items we split at the table that were killer were: the Mediterranean Trio, Pakora tacos and the Applewood Smoked chicken. If your on the fence about any one of them, let me push you over. Can't go wrong, GO FOR IT! As far as drinks, I stuck to a cold brew (or two), but the rest of the table were clinking glasses for most of the night. I can recommend the Maple Whisky Old Fashioned. Be careful, I've walked that plank, before. Of all the places in PG we've been to, this one stands out. The staff are super and they're very creative. I would actually rate this place 3 stars but I am giving it 4 because I think most people would enjoy it, just not my cup of team. My wife and I didn't finish a single item we got. The appetizer, the burger, the tacos, the drinks...the recipes seemed to have been created by someone who was clueless about flavors and just threw a bunch of stuff together that they thought were delicious. The food is usually really good, but sometimes not so much. I feel like the service could be better- especially at lunch. Going up to the counter and ordering is fine with me but they get you to pay before you sit down. The issue I have is having to tip when you pay before you even get your food or any service is ridiculous imo. In all honesty, it feels entitled and brash. I was a waiter for years (at one of the most popular establishments, always voted #1 by the city) and I would never expect a tip before I gave good service and good food. Every time in Prince George, this is where I eat for lunch. I love that there are no minors allowed, it's a nice place to eat, with much of the crowd being business people. I've never actually looked at the menu, I just get whatever their special is. This time it was a pulled brisket sandwich, with Italian mozza, caramelized peaches, on a toasted baguette. As out of town tourists from foodie cities (eg San Fran), we are pretty sure this is the culinary epicenter of Prince George. There is an amazing selection of brews but more importantly, fresh, local food that is worth the very reasonable costs. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere is authentically curated northwest rustic. Every person we polled in town listed Nancy O's as one of the best in town, and it did not disappoint. Nancy O was actually here as well. Found this place because of Yelp and got there early on a Saturday night just after they opened. Many of the tables had reserved signs on them and we were lucky to get a table in the back. Go early or make reservations on a weekend night! The staff were amazing and took the time to explain the menu and make some recommendations. I had the mussels which were delicious and finished to the last drop of the light creamy white wine sauce. My friend had never eaten mussels before and trying them for the first time (as a very picky eater) decided that they were tasty and less fishy than she'd imagined and had another. :) I had the steak frite rare which was a generous steak over fries and being from Alberta, I love my steak and this was a great take served in a cast iron pan to catch all the sauces soaking into the bed of fries leaving a light gravy juice to dip pieces of steak and fries into. I'd have that again in a heartbeat! My friend had the chicken carbonara and the pasta was delicious - not made in house, but made fresh. I had a taste and the texture of the pasta was excellent - the carbonara sauce was flavourful and delicious. I finished the night with a chocolate triffle which was a thick mousse-pudding with caramel and whipped cream on top. If you like chocolate, you'll love this dessert. Only in town here for 2.5 days and planning another visit before I leave! There were at least half a dozen other things on the menu that I wanted to try! read more

Nancy O's is new southern inspired luncheon *now dinner too* spot downtown. It just opened, its lunch here which was 11$ including tax and coffee was the best tasting and prepared lunch I have had since I moved to PG bar none. A steak sandwich w/t provolone and crispy onions and soup of tomato and beef that was every much as good as the sandwich. The quality of this experience took me by surprise and I actually swore out load to my lunch partner, it is going to be a popular spot I can already tell. Word spread to the proprietor about my blog and he actually was fully open and spoke about the stage and process he is pursuing and invited me back for more pictures. Great staff friendly great value and amazing venue. Rated 10/10 since they now have a liquor license and live music on a regular basis. This place is as good as PG gets. read more

Like bacon and maple syrup, oxymorons, and bathtub radio, the many layers of Nancy O's shouldn't work together, but they do. It's a culinary bouillabaisse of chaotic ideas. It's a pub, a bistro, a café, a hipster hangout, and a theater, a place that, if it existed a half-century ago, would've seen the likes of Allen Ginsburg, Jack Kerouac, or at the very least, a Michael Myers-lookalike with a beret and cashmere scarf barking out beatnik to listeners. That last comment indicates how old and out of touch I am. Whenever I patronize Nancy O's, I admit feeling a little...the word I've decided to use is "timeworn". With age comes a desire to lean forward in a car going uphill and tap my feet uncontrollably to elevator music. It also comes with memories of a time when this town had little to no such alternative culinary destinations. We had Chinese buffets, family eateries, and truck stops, places more fitting for the back alleys of an Orwellian dystopia. Back then, I also weighed 315 lbs. and my idea of gastronomic bliss were pizza pops and Dr. Smooth (because apparently teenagers were powered by benzene back then). I wouldn't have appreciated Nancy O's, just like the early attempts in the 90s to replicate its formula, attempts which are unfortunately no longer with us. Today, it's evidently mandatory for all restaurants to feature a stage, even if said restaurant is smaller than a studio apartment in downtown Tokyo. Nancy O's perfected that formula, and was for a while the only place successful at it, a restaurant with the gravity to attract every manner of individual, whether it was to dine or to perform. It was a neutron star of tightly wound particles with every ounce worth the weight of Everest. I won't defend accusations of it being a hipster bar. If you dislike it for that reason, then ignore it; go to a boring sports pub and drink the last lingering shreds of your character away. Nancy O's could be called a pub if said pub was located in Belfast, but here, I would call it a restaurant and one I frequent...just like everyone else does. In fact, why did I spend 368 words practically deifying them? It's common knowledge, like knowing that cats ignore people or that men slow down when walking with their girlfriends. Fifty years from now, the restaurant will be considered a landmark, listed alongside truss bridges and creepy steel mannequins made to resemble wood. This assumes, of course, it doesn't suffer another fire. Yes, unfortunately, a year almost to the day after a blaze forced the temporary closure of another local restaurant, Nancy O's (along with several other businesses) were struck by fire. Thankfully, their re-opening took only a week. Like the city's proud century-old ironworks, Nancy O's refused to fall. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the city's collective vigilance to prevent the loss of another landmark as the reason for Nancy O's survival. For a while, it held the top spot on Trip Advisor, still holds the pinnacle on Yelp. Its Facebook page has more likes than the city's own official page. From chicken and brie sandwiches and chili cheese fries in the afternoon to maple soy steelhead salmon and risotto balls in the evening, Nancy O's is more adaptable than Daniel Day-Lewis. We all know Nancy O's is the culinary and cultural epicenter of Prince George, and if I ever committed to a pub-crawl, I would start and finish with that semi-hidden restaurant on 3rd avenue. I also admit it being my zombie apocalypse rendezvous point...because people need to be prepared. read more

You need two to three people to eat it all. Also had the Caesar salad, which was off the chain even though it was a tad over dressed! Wife had the seafood fettuccini which looks small, but is a generous filling portion. That was great too. Full of flavor and full of seafood just how I like it. Beers were the out of the ashes and mount bigby (kolsch). Both were good. Out Of The Ashes is a robust white rye IPA that's super hoppy. Not a fan. My fiancé and I just moved to Prince George about a week ago. My friend, who lived here last summer, highly recommended Nancy O's so we thought we'd check it out. The atmosphere is really nice. Kind of reminds me of Commercial Drive (I'm originally from Vancouver). Definitely love the artwork on the walls and tables. Very nice vibe. The person who sat us was also exceptionally friendly, as was our waitress. I got the beef dip with potato bacon soup and my fiancé ordered the pulled pork sandwich with yam fries. Hands down the best beef dip I've ever had!! My only real complaint at all was that the food took a while. Not crazy long and I could tell that it was busier than normal. I debated deducting a star but other than this small detail it was very good! Will definitely come back! read more

I arrived a few hours before a sold out comedy show as a single diner, sat at the bar and ordered the chicken and waffles. It was alright, nothing amazing but absolutely nothing wrong with it. Maybe not my personal favorite. Juicy but not greasy, less waffle than I expected. Served with a piece of bacon and walnuts as well as a sides of Maple syrup and made fresh coleslaw I was impressed by the menu's range in food and beer. They also had two of my favorite bourbons and the They could improve the selection in gin, tequila and rum. The atmosphere was pleasant, music at the right volume, lighting about right. My partner and I tried Nancy O's for lunch the first time on Friday, March 19th. We were there shortly after 1:00 and could not believe how busy it was. I ordered the Chicken with Bree sandwich and Ceasar Salad and my partner ordered the Steak Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. We waited approximately 20 minutes for our lunch to arrive, which seemed like a long time, but it was busy! BUT...OH MY...was it ever worth the wait. We actually shared 1/2 of each other sandwiches and they were both delicious! They employees were very courtious and professional and seemed to enjoy their jobs. The atmosphere was casual. The establishment was clean. I could see into the kitchen from the order counter and saw nothing that would violate any FoodSafe Policies. We would like to try Nancy O's for dinner next time.
