We were greeted warmly and it was explained that we had to download the app for table service and we could sit anywhere we liked. The outside was huge offering plenty of space to sit although tables were reserved from 2pm onwards. The menu had a good eclectic selection for drink and as for food offered the usual falafel, meatballs, nachos etc. We weren't massively hungry just nibblish so we shared a buttermilk chicken and haloumi platter for £13 and Latina fries for £4.50 which consisted of a topping of nachos cheese, salsa , guacamole and soir cream. To wash this down with I chose a gin cocktail consisting of prosecco, gin and lemonade..it was really tasty! The presentation was lovely and everything tasted great although I suspected the chips were from frozen. However I did feel that everything was a bit overpriced..there was x3 pieces of chicken and cheese on the sharing platter and everything came to £36 . I cannot believe this gorgeous new club underneath Afflecks was once the horrendous Too Risque nightclub. Just shows what a lick of paint (and a huge refurbishment) can do to a place. The club is a collaboration brought to us from the people behind Sankeys and the people behind the Northern Quarter Bar and Restaurant...how very random! What I find more random are the secret rooms (not found any yet, apparently you need a password to get in...!!!)! They also have pool tables which are pretty cool and I think should be in more bars! I think it's going to be one of those places EVERYONE heads to over Christmas so try and find out the secret password now to impress your friends!

First thing I noticed was how dark Wuthering Heights type building it is. I wondered if a Heathcliff was behind the bar but sadly there were only young ladies and a big tall chef who looked nothing like my hero Heathcliff. Inside, the rooms are all opened planned and large and there is a separate dining area. Once we were settled, we decided to order and I chose something I had never really had before and that was a steak filled with feta cheese. When I say it was filled, I mean stuffed. The steak was made into a ball shaped and once you cut into it, steaming hot feta cheese came pouring out. I would recommend this restaurant for any time of day, it is not only fantastic but cheap and cheerful.

The Seabass came out a little odd, because we can't specified to avoid garlic, and that was interpreted to leave out the prawns entirely. The hostess corrected that quickly, but it is a bit disruptive to the overall meal flow. Location is beautifully quaint tucked away inside of a forest Glen and brings about a very peaceful experience. Decor reminds you of visiting a small cottage. There was a good range of beers on offer, some nice bottles and there seemed a great environment of banter and middle aged folks catching up. Staff were also very friendly. I'd happily pop down here again for lunch or a few drinks mainly due to it being so close to my house. Not a bad option if you live nearby but nothing WOW in terms of quality of the food.

The chef/food; Quite frankly, was embarrassing. I would not eat here again. I ordered a steak. The menu describes it as being served with sizzling onions and seasoned chips. Firstly the steak; I asked for well done. There was blood in the middle. I had no option but to return it. It came back chronically burned. The chips were not seasoned. The portion was tiny and there were so many bad ones with huge black eyes in them that when I went through them to remove the bad ones there were only 17 chips left on my plate. As a chef myself, I would not have presented them with black eyes and bad potato clearly showing. Next came the onions. First critique is that they were badly chopped. All different thicknesses and shapes. Again, no care in the presentation, but, also causing a problem in that they couldn't be evenly cooked.They arrived raw. Not a bit raw but completely raw. There wasn't even a slight colouring of brown on them. I politely pointed it out to the waitress who took them. Again, the second time, they were raw. I took the plate back a third time and said it says sizzling onions please will you ask the chef to cook them properly for me. I don't like raw onion. They came back so black and burned that they were inedible. Absolutely jet black! He had his heat too high and absolutely destroyed them. My friend asked for a salad and specified no tomatoes. It came full of tomato. We picked out 7 pieces. I genuinely think this chef is untrained or, lazy and doesn't want to put the time required in to cook things appropriately. And it might be mock Tudor, but as you can see from previous reviews, this isn't something to sniff at. It looks lovely, what more do you want? In Chorlton you'll find the operative word is 'family-friendly', remember, this is the 'burbs, and here be anklebiters. But hey, kid-haters, don't let that put you off. You'd be missing out on its summer sun-trap and winter crackling open fire. An all season pleaser? Who could say no? It's a roomy yet cosy place that can be hired for functions and parties, and the list of cask ales is seemingly neverending. Just come in and try, that's the best advice I can give you. Drink prices are pretty average with a short and mixer at around £2 for the house double. Not seeming to suffer from the affliction of other pubs in the area it doesnt have a huge number of young customers nor does it seem to appeal to the young families - rather it has a nice mix of the 'old man pub' type customers and younger regulars which adds to the generally nice atmosphere and lack of trouble.

There's a lovely tiled entry way, with the Tavern to the right hand side. I visited with work colleagues to sample the Spring Menu, so we were seated quickly and the food started to come out soon after. There was a shaky start as food was placed on our tables without explanation - some of the staff were obviously in training, and you could see the more senior members showing them the ropes, so totally understandable - but they soon got into the swing of things. They steered us through 'starters' - ham hock terrine and a starter version of their 'bang bang' aubergine - followed by fish - monkfish with risotto and a sea bass ceviche - then a lamb chop. From these, I would recommend the risotto, often forgotten as a main meal, and the lamb. The ham hock was delicious but could have done with a side of bread or cracker, and I'm not a fish eater by nature, though I heard positive feedback for the monkfish. Desserts were presented on a 3-tier stand and made in house by their pastry chef. Lemon macarons were okay, the chocolate tart was lovely and rich but the pastry but a touch too crumbly to keep it all together, but the crème brûlée was delicious - not my usual choice of dessert but this was lovely and light. So, why 3 stars? It was all good but nothing really stood out to me. Despite being full for the menu tasting, there was also a lack of any real atmosphere. This wouldn't put me off from coming back at all but something to consider if you're looking for a special occasion meal.

The bar has a spectacular view of the town hall and over the roofs of Manchester, they are well stocked with good wine and all the necessities of a good bar. I can imagine the bar would be a great venue for a party or something. I had an evening meal in there on site restaurant too which was good, although I think they are trying a bit too hard still (being newly opened) to appeal to as wide a taste pallet as possible. If they only tried to be good at one thing (or at least a combination of English and French food) rather than adding thai broths and such to the menu. Many places suffer from making menu's over complicated when really if you are good enough you will become known for it, to be fair the cooks here are very accomplished so they should not struggle really. I started with the ham hock rillettes with poached quail egg and asparagus which were really excellent and not too salty which is an accomplishment in itself. For main I had the ribeye steak with bone marrow butter, chips and bearnaise sauce, the steak was great although the chips were a bit of a disappointment, I would say this is because the chips were too big so were soggy instead of crispy, either that or they needed a second fry to remedy this fault. For pudding I had sorbet, although there was a misunderstanding when ordering so instead of getting a scope of the mango and a scope of the raspberry two separate dishes arrived, however the star of the two was the mango. The staff were lovely although they could of done with an extra person around, I do wish they knew a little more about the menu, like where the beef came from rather than the supplier name, always seems a shame not knowing how local the meat is however good it was. The place was not busy, but this will come I think if more people learn how good the food is, and I suspect this will happen given the time. The venue could of done with been a tiny bit brighter, I am impressed with it, but I think the few things I spotted that were not quite right mean four stars instead of five.
