The pub is beautiful and cosy, the landlady was kind and cheerful and the food.....oh god, the food! We both had a starter of pigeon, not something you usually see on a pub menu and it was superbly cooked and tasted amazing. For my main I chose the steak burger with chips and onion rings, the burger was big, flavoursome and juicy and the touch I like is that the tomato ketchup on table was all homemade, not from a bottle! We will certainly come back to this awesome place if we are ever near the area again because it was outstanding!!

The beer was awful, the menu uninspiring and overall it was a miserable experience. But..we heard it had been recently taken over and lots of work had been done to the kitchen, so we decided to give it another chance. We were so glad we did! Despite being very busy, we were greeted warmly and with a smiles. The food was excellent, freshly made & cooked on the premises and at a very reasonable price. The beer is superbly kept and the overall atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. We will definately be going again, and have no hesitation in recommending this. The pub is…read morespacious and very traditional, with an open log fire and several different eating corners dotted around the pub and a lovely outside eating space/beer garden for in the summer. The menu has an enormous range of food- we struggle to choose just 1 main each because so many of them sound completely scrumptious. The pub really does sell traditional 'pub grub' -good steaks, lasagne, roasts etc- none of those small portion, fancy 'nouveau cuisine' dishes here. There is a daily roast with a different meat every day and the vegetables that accompany this are beautiful- fresh, colourful and not overcooked. Service is prompt, but not too prompt, prices are very reasonable and the landlady Avril is very keen to please and friendly. We've no negative feedback for this pub and gladly recommend it to our friends when they ask for a good 'food pub' recommendation. The pub closes on Mondays and has closed some other week day evenings recently when I assume, sadly business has been slow- if in doubt, do give them a call first.

There is a reasonable ca park as it gets quite hard to park in the summer. I have visited for lunch and dinner and both were very nicely presented and well cooked. The skate is very tasty and the scampi and Jenga chips are good. The costs can be a little bit higher for lunch but the menu is very similar and therefore for dinner, I thought it was quite reasonable. Peter who used to be at another Billericay restaurant is the restaurant manager and as normal makes sure we get well looked after.

We had just missed the lunch service but were made to feel extraordinarily welcome by Nick, the landlord, and were in no way treated like outsiders because it is very much a classic chocolate box village local and we'd come eighty miles from Cambridge to this sleepy Suffolk village. The inn is 15th century and retains so many of the old features such as cut-outs in the wall to display the wattle and daub construction of the walls. The flagstone floors are lovely as well. The Admans ale is the best in Britain, hands down, although I do not recall whether this is a "tied" house. I remember, a few decades ago, watching the marriage of Charles and Diana on the telly in the bar and getting plastered with the locals. This place is as traditional as it gets. The last time I was there I saw no fruit machines and I doubt any have appeared since then. A Suffolk treasure beyond measure.
