White Pines exploring this weekend was insane. My daughter and I had a blast riding some of the fire roads with unreal views. There's miles of roads and trails everywhere that lead down to the river. A beautiful lake to come to where you can go swimming or paddle boat out on the water or sit at some picnic tables to enjoy some snacks and drinks. Highly recommend bringing your own lawn chairs and picnic blankets and getting here earlier before the crowds start to form. The nice thing about this lake is that is is heavily shaded - even though it was 100 degrees on this day, it felt like a cool 80 here by the water. The kids loved wading out into the water - you can bring your own floaties and life jackets here. The only downside is that there is a lot of geese poop everywhere on the water - I'd recommend bringing something to shovel the poop out prior to letting the kids play. It would also be nice if they had a shower onsite so you could rinse all the sand off before getting in your car. read more

My family and I were up here for Memorial Day Weekend. We rented an Airbnb at Camp Connell with a few other family members. Since our check-in was not until 4PM we decided to come up early and hang out at the lake. I am so glad we did. This is a really nice lake. Lots of benches and bbq pits. There's a large playground, tennis courts and basketball court. They even have cornhole, you just bring your own bean bags. Parking is plentiful and really close to the lake so it's super convenient. There were lots of people on the lake in kayaks, paddle boards and inner tubes. The lake is surrounded by large sequoias, so it feels like you've stepped way out of the City. There was also a lot of people fishing and actually catching fish. So much to do and such a beautiful place to do it. I swear we even caught a bald eagle flying overhead with a fish in it's talons. Also, I don't know if it was just the time of year we visited but there were so many butterflies and so many variations and colors of them, it was quite special. Especially since we had our 2 year old granddaughter with us whom thought she was dancing with them and holding conversation with them..lol! Bathroom was clean. The park is maintained by volunteers so please make sure to pick after yourself and help ensure this park preserved in it's natural beauty. We'll be back! read more

The town and lake are the perfect mountain country experience. We found a spot near the water and stayed all day. There wasn't a lot of people and everyone we did meet were so nice. They don't have trash bins near the tables and grill, everyone just knew to pick up afterwards and place of garbage in the bins near the restrooms. We saw a Bald Eagle here and my friend swam with a bear the day before. We paddle boarded all day with the beautiful weather and nature surrounding us. read more

This seems to be a good place for local people to fish and have gatherings and bring in their kayaks and canoes. As a tourist, I felt underprepared and like I was intruding without being invited. They either didn't have boat rentals, or we didn't see it. But there were plenty of people on their own small, non-motorized boats, and that looked very appealing. The lake is man made, so swimming is what it is. A path doesn't go around the lake. Lots of people were fishing. There are clean picnic spots and a playground that my kids enjoyed. Basically, not a bad place, and if we lived there, we'd surely be going often. I wouldn't include it on a travel itinerary. read more

This is a beautiful lake with plenty of trees for shade. You can bring your non-motorized sports: rafts, kayak, canoe, paddle board, etc. they have quite a few picnic tables and places to BBQ. There is a playground, basketball court, volleyball sand pit, and horseshoes (bring your own). It is absolutely beautiful here. If you need tackle or bait for fishing, there's a little shop, Ebbett's Pass Sporting Goods, about 20 yards after the exit. Great place to take your kids! read more

I kinda ran into this lake/area whilst trying to find a good few hours hike. Scoped out the Arnold Rim Trail and the trailhead happens to be next to this lake, as well as the Sierra Nevada Logging Museum. So I ended up having 3 things to explore in one shot. Score! The lake itself isn't really that impressive. First it is man made, so it lacks that inherent natural beauty. But with pine trees all around it, it can easily pass for an alpine lake. I've been twice and the water seemed cleaner during the snowier months. During the summers, there is just a lot more action going on, fishing/boating. There is a trail around the lake but it doesn't completely go around. So there is no natural "loop". There is good hiking to be done here, but you have to venture out to the many fire roads that surround this area. Many elevate and is a worthy workout. This has to be a pretty new public area because it is pretty clean and just doesn't show as much wear and tear as other public parks. The picnic areas are immaculate and are well designed into the landscape. A nice asset for this mountain town. read more

We've been coming to Arnold for years and about 2 mos sho found this lake. - free parking - there is two different parking lots as well as road parking, there is a parking lot near the Moose Lodge make sure you park on the lots for the lake. A lot of seating/ tables and picnic areas. The beach area is big, however if you go on a crowded day there is limited seating there. read more

We were on the way up to Calaveras Big Trees State Park for camping, and wanted to stop somewhere along the way to fish and make lunch. Did a quick Google search and White Pines Lake seemed pretty ideal - just a few miles from the campsite and the pictures looked nice. Bear in mind this is for the 4th of July weekend. Parking was easy - perhaps it was still early in the day as later on the parking lot became full. I noticed there was another lot on the other side of the lake with plenty of parking, so drive around if you're not able to find a spot. I was actually expecting this place to be a little more secluded, with less families, but there was a decent amount of people ranging from young adults to families to just people wanting to fish. The place felt like a cross between your local city park and somewhere that's more nature-ry. Yes, I said nature-ry. It is a nice little lake (not huge) surrounded by tall trees. There's a basketball court, volleyball court, and at least one playground structure. A number of picnic tables were available and some have BBQ pits. There is an area with a fairly large BBQ pit - if you have a bunch of food, that would be the place to cook it. You might even be able to get away with roasting a pig on there, assuming you had a way to prop the sucker up :) We tried to fish briefly, but I'm not sure if this is the best place to catch fish. The water was rather shallow where we were, so we gave up rather quickly. We also didn't know what the heck we were doing, so that was another reason we called it quits. When your lure gets stuck up in the trees, it's time to go. Overall, it's a nice place to spend some time and White Pines Lake has something for everyone - scenery, fishing, picnicking, BBQ'ing, hiking, kayaking, playgrounds, small beach, etc. There's even a logging museum. Not a bad place to check out on the way up to Big Trees. read more

DISC GOLF!!! We'd never been disc golfing before, but there's a first time for everything, especially during the pandemic when outdoor activities rule. Honestly, we had a blast. We bought a pack of discs at the Sierra Nevada Adventure Company down the road, showed up at the park (no reservations required) and went to town. You can print out a map of the "golf" course online, which we followed with only minimal challenges. It was really fun, and the other golfers (there were quite a few) stayed away and were respectful and friendly. This would be a great place to picnic or just hang out when the weather gets warmer. read more

Easy access to the lake. Can literally park beside the shore on the east side, which is convenient. Went in July-lots of bluegill! We caught almost 10 in one morning. Really beautiful lake for having a picnic. Lots of yellow jackets. Bring your peppermint essential oil. Restrooms were clean and easily accessible from the parking lot. If you want to go kayaking or canoeing I recommend alpine lake about 40 minutes east of here. A high elevation lake that is larger and less murky for swimming, however temperatures are typically a lot cooler. read more

I was very excited to go to this lake due to the reviews and was very disappointed! I am not sure if it was the season or time of day but it was bad. We got a table on the edge (in the beach area) and it smelled. The water looked filthy and murky. We tried to sit and enjoy ourselves but the smell and gnats flying around was too much. Maybe We were too far in the corner? However we did walk from one end to the beach part and from what we walked through nothing looked appealing. Looked more like a big pond. I was truly wishing this was a win. read more

This is our family's go-to spot whenever we stay in Arnold. The water is perfect, the lake isn't crowded, and it's a great place to have a picnic. Not to mention, the water isn't as cold as Alpine Lake. Even in the summertime that water feels like ice. Parking: free, parking a lot right by the water Entrance fee: free Restroom: yes, located by the playground by the entrance. Rope swing: yes, but have a buddy check the depth of the water and surrounding area first. I have a lot of memories using it in the past, but this last time it straight up did not look safe. This perfect little getaway is super peaceful and beautiful in the summer. Bring your inner tube/floaty, sunscreen, and snacks. read more

I grew up at this lake. It's not huge or real adventurous, but a great place to make some memories. Perfect for picnics, if you have kids or are looking for a short day trip. My 2 star review has nothing to do with the lake as a whole. It is for the rope swing that killed my vacation. My boyfriend landed on a tree stump/branch sticking out of the water. You can imagine what a hole in the butt feels like, not to mention stitches there. We found out that two days prior, the same swing caused a puncture wound in the back of a kid. We will be skipping the swing next time. read more

One of the only things I actually enjoyed of Arnold, Ca. The people who volunteer at the park are beyond welcoming I was greeted by " Enjoy the park and all I want is to see a smile on your face while you enjoy the lake" by an elederly man. Ofcoures, I had a smile on my face after that. The lake is small but beautiful and breath taking. If you want to enjoy nature while taking a good swim come to this place. Was at the White Pine and left around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 6. A large group of unapproachable persons came along and were playing loud, offensive music - the kind with swear words. Surprised because they had young children with them. Surprised they were smoking because of the fire danger. Everyone around us was leaving. We checked signs for a contact and found none. Found a list of rules, no loud music was one of them, but nothing on how the rules are enforced. We have been going to White Pine Lake for around 2 years and never had a negative experience until now. Who can we contact when this occurs ? read more
