While neither of us are Wells Fargo customers, he offered his help if we ever had any questions, or if we wanted to open accounts without being too "salesman-y". Because I was going to squeeze in opening my account in between running errands I called to make sure I had everything I needed. A live person (who I believe was the bank manager) answered the phone, not a menu or queque. Already I was impressed. When I pulled up they were waiting on me and immediately Stephanie went to work opening my account. While she was definitely sales driven telling me about all the services they offered, she was relatable, professional, and friendly. Although they closed while I was there I never felt like the staff was rushing to get me out the door. In fact my experience was quite the opposite as I felt like the most important person in the room. They really know how to make a great first impression and with rates like that I'm going drag the hubby in when his current credit union CD expires. Hopefully the warm fuzzy feeling continues.

I also like their online banking although they do change it often and preferred earlier versions to what they have now. They also offer online bill pay through a third party which has been problematic at times. While this location is close to work, it's not the one I frequent most often. However with "my branch" having so many unexpected closings due to maintenance issues as of late I find myself coming here more and more. I prefer to visit the lobby for faster service and rarely is there a line. The drive thru does take longer here since they don't have a designated drive thru teller and she shuttles back and forth between walk in and drive thru customers. This location also has a coin sorter. Something my regular branch doesn't have. It's been many years since I've used it but when I did it was required that I deposit the balance. I'm not sure if that has changed. Included in Belco membership is all the cool events they host for their members that goes above and beyond what a bank will do. Free Easter Egg hunts for the kids, Safari club rewards for small savers, as well as educations seminars and services. I've now been a member for about 25 years and it's safe to say will remain a member for life unless they move away from this area.

I thought I would be neighborly and do business with those in my community. I went into Ephrata Bank to open a local checking account. I already have accounts set up back home but, I feel it's always best to do business locally whenever possible and, if there comes a time that I need to write a check, most businesses are comfortable with local checks. I met with a banker who examined my Arizona issued driver's license and basically grilled me on it. She looked at it very suspiciously. Perhaps was it because I am a person of color and not the standard white shade of Strasburg, Pennsylvania? I don't know. I NEVER pull the race card but that's how this whole experience felt. She asked me where I lived and I told her I live right next-door in the community behind the bank. She left the room for a few minutes to speak to the bank manager next door. She returned wanting my address. She left again with my ID for about 10 minutes into the manager's office. I could hear the manger say, "Well, if you don't feel comfortable..." When she returned I noticed she had a photo copy of my ID and I was told they had a problem with my ID. They wouldn't say what it was at first, they just said that their security had to look into the matter more. When I pressed them they were quite evasive. I pressed further and she ended up saying they needed to verify the extremely long issue/expiration date of my Arizona DL. To be honest, it sounded like she was making that up as an excuse. I informed her that Arizona has one of the longest ID expiration dates in the nation. And, being a bank I would imagine they would have access to that information and could verify at the touch of their fingertips and a keyboard. Oh heck, just ask Siri or Alexa for Christ's sake. This is 2020, have they not heard of Internet? They seemed rude and condescending and not eager for business whatsoever. I walked into this bank planning on depositing money. I am there to give them MY money and this is how I'm treated? They were unprofessional and rude, they need to be reminded that they chose to be in the customer service business and nobody forced them. I didn't walk into Ephrata Bank so that I can walk out feeling racially profiled and mistreated. It was a very bad experience. They could've been much nicer but they chose not to be. I will point out, I did walk in towards the end of the day after driving for 2300 miles. However, their attitudes seemed far more tired than mine.
