Art Depot has a decent selection for brushes, paint, pencils, markers, canvas and paper. Prices were slightly more than chains but in line with other independent art stores. Interestingly, an employee (owner?) was very chatty and overheard him mention he had some canvas that was shit and he discounted it and will no longer sell it. He had a lot of back story for a customer who wasn't even buying canvas. Maybe he didn't know and wanted to give the person a heads up before they bought crap canvas. Or maybe he thought the customer would know it was crap canvas and he wanted to preempt negative questioning. Anyway, completely recommend this store.

I came from out of town to see my in laws and I fell in love with this place. It's a bit of trek from Carlisle but totally with it. It's fun and hip and the owner, Joan, is a sweetheart. I told her that my hubs and I were visiting and she was so kind. She told us about the history of the pen shoppe and showed us around. I absolutely loved it. This place is what i would call creative and beautiful chaos. Its cluttered with the magic of different pens and writing utensils including notebooks, pens, inks and novelty items. I got big into fountain pens and notebooks many moons ago, thanks to a best friend but I've always loved to write so this place was heaven to me. I love reading all the fun little interesting artifacts, looking at all the pens and everything else. I wish I had more time there. The prices were very decent and I ended up going coming with a Platinum Plaisir (f) (if you know you know....) a converter, a t-shirt and a hodge podge of stickers -- ugh, just love....I really felt at home here because I felt so "in my element". Anyways, I digress. As a whole, visiting here was so much fun! Joan also took a picture of us so she could display it on her changing photo album of her customers that have been going to the store for years. It was a sweet gesture. This shop has been in business for over 25 years, and you can really feel the history and passion behind it. I had so much fun browsing--there were so many different types of pens, shapes, and quality levels to explore. Even if you're not specifically shopping for something, it's a really interesting place to look around. I actually didn't plan on stopping in and wasn't even sure it would be open based on the time I arrived, but I'm so glad it was. The owner was incredibly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable, which made the experience even better. I ended up purchasing a pencil and a seal, and I'll definitely be back--this would be a great place to find a thoughtful, high-quality gift (especially for something like Father's Day). Also, a really cool bonus: there's an Airbnb located on the second floor, which adds to the charm of the space.

The first thing you notice when you enter the store is that everything is hodge-podged together- the "shelves" are the type of shelves you put in your basement or shed to store boxes- definitely not what you'd use for a store display. That being said, it's new and I'm sure it's expensive to open a new store, so whatever- looks aren't everything. They have a decent amount of items in the store for the size. Good quality sketch pads and pens. My major issue is the attitude of the owner. The owner of the store took every opportunity to speak poorly of the newly closed art supply store that was next door. The owner worked there for many years and opened this current store after the other store closed. When I walked in the first time, the owner was in the midst of a conversation with a customer about how "crazy" the former store owner was, etc etc. That customer left and I was the only one in the store. Since I live in the neighborhood I asked her questions about her new store- I didn't know she had any ties to the former art store in the same shopping complex, so I got to hear how awful this other owner was, how she wanted to overcharge her for everything, etc. I came in again last week to grab a sketch pad and it was the same story- I could hardly believe it. All this effort and breath wasted to put down a business that doesn't even exist anymore. I was so off-put by it, that I didn't even buy the sketchpad. As a business owner in Frederick myself, I think it's pretty easy to assume that we should all play by rule #1: do not speak ill of others when representing your business. Period. I don't know the history between the two women, but that doesn't matter to me- it's just bad business to speak poorly of others. She could have taken the opportunity to explain how she was going to do things differently, what she will carry and her hopes for the store, etc etc- instead she decided to take the low road and insult a company that is out of business and of no threat to her store. While there aren't too many places in town to purchase artist supplies from an independent dealer, I won't be shopping here again.

My family and I stumbled across this gift shop in search of local items that are uniquely from Hershey, Pennsylvania. There isn't much shops that carry Non-Chocolate items in the vicinity. However, it was a nice change of pace from the Norm when we found homemade salsa, quilts, framed arts and various items that looked very authentic but they did carry a decent amount of Hershey products including; Coffee Muggs, Shot Glasses, Magnets & Keychains that pays homage to Hershey. After all, this is the Chocolate Capitol of the U.S.A At the time of our visit, there was only 1 person managing the store but she was very friendly and knowledgeable with the local area and did a great job in helping us out. I enjoyed the project and learned about the process. Though, I should have started with an easier kit. Finley's Art Shoppe was really helpful in figuring out a nice frame and mounting. When I created this mosaic, I had to hide the uneven mosaic boarder, and they did a great job centering it. After I get done my second, simpler kit from Intessere, I will have them frame it!

The Treasure Trove Toy Store is located in the Shoppes at Newberrytown, a borderline struggling…read moreflea market. Parking is not an issue, just grab a spot. The store is located in the middle building, behind the restaurant. Use the doors on the side of the building for the easiest access. Treasure Trove is huge and spread out, taking up a large portion of the building. Selection includes retro toys of all varieties, both new and loose, and a huge Pop Vinyl selection. Everything is very well-organized including separate rooms for specific items. Pop Vinyl's were well priced and included both common and rare ones. Huge stock of wrestling toys of all varieties, including a lot of older figures. Has a small clearance section with various items including a lot of physical media. One of the things that also stood out was the condition of items, most of the toy boxes were in good condition. Treasure Trove's biggest weakness is it being a little out of the way, and that the Shoppes at Newberrytown is not the most known place in the world. Treasure Trove really is the core of the Shoppes at Newberrytown and absolutely worth a stop.

It takes up most of one of the barracks representing The Shoppes at Newberrytown, a classic dirt mall that is home to a few of our area's best magick brokers and resellers of unusual ancient relics. Surprising, I know. Lady Matilda and I were meeting an antiquities dealer to procure the Emerald of Queen Zinth supposedly the gem that resurrected Lord Ghuul the Ineffable in 1233. The deal fell through because when we exposed the item to a low-level EPK resonator, it did not register the proper psychic frequency. Turns out the gem was just tinted glass from an Art Deco lighting fixture. Anyway, as Lady Matilda and I were figuring out what to do over pancakes at the nearby diner on site, I spotted a massive wall of Funko Pops through the door leading into the next section of the barracks. Pops as far as I could see; pops sufficient to build a small house. I had to investigate. While the major focus of the inventory is on professional wrestling figures and related products, Treasure Trove has a massive collection of loose figures from almost every franchise I could imagine. I was able to fill in the gaps in most of my old collections. I experienced an OCD moment as I had to dig through piles of rare items, discovering something new everywhere I looked. Each loose item was bagged and clearly priced. Boxed and packaged items are in pretty good shape and displayed safely. I didn't see much of the price gouging that is common in most used/collector toy stores. In fact, what I dropped on that first visit was pretty reasonable when I compared it to eBay and similar online resources. If you're looking for spare parts for broken toys, you'll have to dig, but there is a section of the store dedicated to them. The store also has old magazines and some comics, too. Things are organized in a general sense, but there are a lot of displays to investigate. If you go, be prepared to take some time on that first visit. The Funko Pop Wall is, indeed, massive. But the wide selection of products kept me searching the nooks and crannies of the store for an hour - which was only as long as Lady Matilda would allow me before getting ornery about it. She is not a fan of portable toilets, which is all "The Shoppes" seems to offer. Plus, she was fighting the urge to exact revenge on the dealer who had just tried to con us into buying a fake relic. (Be advised, that vendor no longer operates at that location...or in this dimension...any longer.) Since that first visit, I have returned many times, lured by a steady rotation of new items and great sales offers. The owner was also quite friendly and helpful. We chatted briefly as classic pro wrestling matches played on the overhead television.
