In fact it seems a little silly to review a dentist, but that is how fantastic Dr. Dan Meyer at Edgemont Dental is. He is so skilled that he seems to finish the dental work needed in the time that my previous dentists took to do the 'prep' work. He also only does what is absolutely needed, and doesn't try to 'upsell' you on work - a practice that made me think of some of my previous dentist as used car salesmen. (Sorry used car salesmen.) He is extremely skilled and obviously takes pains to stay current on best practices. He and his staff are also very, very personable and friendly. Not sure if they even accept new patients, but if you're lucky enough to get in, make Edgemont Dental your dentist!

I was able to get an…read moreappointment as a new client through a friend who has been going there for years (and spoke very highly of the dentist). And then taking the only appointment that they had available this month. The service here is impeccable. The receptionist was professional and friendly, and the dentist goes through a series of background questions first about you and your overall health before the exam. The hygienist probably has one of the least popular jobs there but explained a lot of things related to teeth and gum health that I never thought about before, that were really interesting. She also used this numbing paste on my gums to help reduce the pain, and offered me Advil afterwards if I needed it for pain management. I also left with some free toothbrushes, rinse, floss and a lip balm (made of all natural ingredients). So why 4 stars and not 5? It was damn expensive. Or at least, in my opinion. I've been a regular dentist visitor in my adult life and never seen a bill over $200 or $300 before, and at the end of my visit I was presented with a bill for $600 for the exam, two x-rays and an hour of intensive cleaning. PS: This place is located upstairs, look for the tiny sign and stairs next to Wow Chicken on 10th.

Not only were they able to accommodate a date switch due to an initial insurance coverage issue for me, but for someone who has a slight phobia of dental offices (and as such, has not been there in many years), they were also able to make me feel welcome and at ease throughout the process. Doctor Van Blaricom and his assistant, Wendy, were thorough and friendly, and great at explaining the reasons why they were doing and checking what they were. In addition, there was no judgement at all from either one as to my long stretch between visits, their main concern was to get me back on track, fixing the minor issues that were present. After a few suggestions for at-home dental care, I was easily booked into the next few appointments, all within the next few weeks. I was well attended to, everyone was extremely nice and approachable, and my hesitation for going to the dentist is gone! I initially went in with a toothache after quickly booking an emergency appointment. The receptionist was very nice and had actually offered me an earlier time after realizing it was for a toothache. During this emergency visit, the dentist decided that instead of fixing the tooth with toothache, I should instead have a 'new client' appointment, pay for full x-rays, and he would put me on a treatment plan for my entire mouth. This was not an issue as it was needed, but what WAS an issue is that after this happened, he asked, "is there anything else?", to which I responded that, yes, I booked an emergency appointment because I have a toothache so could that please be fixed. He said he would quickly put a temporary filling in that tooth, did so, and I left. The toothache is still there today. When I returned for the first part of my treatment, a root canal, the staff were very friendly and it seemed to go well. It wasn't until I checked my teeth in the car on the ride home that I saw that my two front teeth were now chipped. It's unlikely that the dentist and dental assistant didn't know they'd done this - I can only assume that they were aware and had chosen to keep it quiet. When I called up about this the following morning, I spoke with the same friendly receptionist from the previous evening and asked if I would need to pay for this as it was caused during the procedure, she said she'd speak with the clinic manager and that "it shouldn't be a problem". When I returned for the chips to be fixed, both the dental assistant and the dentist asked me multiple times if I'd eaten something that had caused the chip. I responded every time that, no, I saw it in the car mirror in the parking lot after I left my appointment 10 feet away - my mouth was still numb. I understand that they probably need to deny any culpability, but if it's genuinely their fault, enough is enough. At the end of this appointment, they charged me to fix the issue that they had caused. After they charged me, the person working on reception said they'd be in touch soon to schedule the next treatment - probably within a couple of days (it was a long weekend). This was 3 weeks ago. Also, during each of these visits I was told that there was an issue with my insurance to do with my birth date. After my very first appointment, I contacted my insurance company who asked the dental clinic to call them so they could work it out. The next time I went into the clinic, the receptionist told me they'd spoken with the insurance company and the result was to file the insurance via mail. After my second and third appointments, I reiterated this to each receptionist, as each one of them treated it as a new issue. Today, I received a text from the clinic informing me that there is an issue with my insurance and it "looks like your date of birth is wrong", asking if I could make sure it's correct with my insurance. Still nothing about the next treatment and this is now the 4th time I'm having to tell a different person at this clinic the same thing. Unfortunately, it seems like quite a disorganized place. Again, I wish I could leave a better review but I have to be honest.
