Lush campsites with fire rings. 2. Location: Perfectly surrounded by Trout Creek and the North Fork of the Skykomish River which makes for surreal camping, epic trout and salmon fishing, and a great site for rafting/kayaking trips. It feels like you're on an island. Easy location to begin hikes from as well. 3. They even have porto-potties (which makes it easier for the ladies)! Located off hwy 2 past the picturesque town of Index WA and on at the end of the Index-Galena road washout. This private campground is owned and operated by Outdoor Adventure Center right in Index. Reservations are required in advanced with the Outdoor Adventure Center (see link). I've stayed here numerous times with family and friends. Highly recommend for family, fishing, hiking, climbing, naturalist, and photographer camping getaways.

It was still overcast, but no rain can be a plus when out hiking. The entrance to the park is well marked and there is a parking lot for those who are at the park for day use like we were. After parking our car we set out to explore the trails down to the river and back. Informational signs spot the trail and provide background and helpful tidbits if you are on the look-out for wildlife or their tracks. The mosquitos were fiercest at the parking lot and a number of them bit me through my clothing. Coming back I'd wear more layers or insect repellent if trying not to get bit. The trail we walked ran along the Skagit River for a short bit then twisted through the woods and back to the parking lot. On the way out to the Skagit River we passed a clearing. The grass was tall in the clearing center, but around the edges the grass had been cut to provide a walking path if one so yearned. We encountered mostly birds on our visit in terms of wildlife. The park itself wasn't too busy when we arrived, but we started to see more people by the time we departed. Restrooms were clean and we maintained our social distance.

Wow, what a beautiful park and campground just off the Mountain Loop Highway! This spot had been on…read moreour camping bucket list for the past year, and we were excited to finally make the trek out there this summer in the ol' travel trailer. We found a beautiful site amidst the trees, and were quickly set up and ready to explore. The sites here are large, level, and not right on top of each other. And the trees, oh the trees! So many big, beautiful trees made this spot amazingly serene and peaceful. There's also a creek running through the campground, with a couple of (reservable) large picnic shelters alongside it for day use. This is a great campground for tenting or a 1-2 day RV trip - but there are no hookups, and with all the shade (which we appreciated in the warm weather), solar isn't really an option. The nearest dump station is about 6 miles away in Darrington. Looking for full hookups? Nearby Whitehorse County Park is a decent option.

The road to the camp is a bit of a trekk. It's long, windy, and much of it dirt with pot holes. There's also no cell service out there so be sure to communicate with anyone you're meeting shortly after turning off highway 2. The camp sites themselves are good sized, we easily fit 2 tents and our cars. There was a fire pit and a picnic table too. We had access to the river and enjoyed a nice cold plunge on a warm day. There were several hikes in the area to choose from but we couldn't turn down the incredible Lake Blanca, whose trailhead was only a few minutes away. We look forward to visiting this campground again next year.

The campground at Troublesome Creek is an absolute gem. Located about two hours from any…read moresignificant population base, accessible off of a (mostly) dirt forest service road, you'll marvel at the serenity of this idyllic campground. There are two sides to this campground, an east and a west loop. My spot was on the east loop, space 15 and I'd definitely recommend the spaces on the east loop, as they give you ample privacy with equally ample access to the creek and the North Fork of the Skykomish River. No power hookups means you can set the devices aside and worry little about what's happening in the city. Out here, the entertainment is happening in nature. Views of surrounding peaks, the rush of the water as it flows past and as night falls, the dotting of stars in the inky black sky will give you exactly what you need before heading back to civilization. Nature truly is the best. I'll be back to this campground again, no doubt.

Good camping outside North Cascades…read more We picked this campground as it was the best alternative to camping in North Cascades park. Summertime camping in North Cascades is booked, so finding this place was a gem! Location is good. It's not too far from the park. They have showers and toilets. This is a luxury! Our spot for our campervan was level. All we had to do was roll up for the night and head out in the morning for the day. We plan to come back if camping is full in the park again.

The beach park section of Larrabee park is gorgeous. There's ample parking, then a decent that's…read moreabout a 45 second walk to a grassy lawn and a beautiful stage built in the early 1900s. There were people performing music on the stage and park goers enjoying on the grass. Just to the left of the stage there's a path to the beach. Another 2-3 minute descent brings you to a trail going left and right. The path to the left is a short trail to a rock you can sit on and climb down to get to the water. Further that way there's another beach. The path to the right leads to a nice beach with a great view and a shade tree. There were some bugs in the washed up kelp, but nothing too bothersome imho. We had a stand up paddleboard so we used the path on the right after the stage area. I would recommend anyone bringing gear down (scuba, kayaks, paddleboards) to use this beach. Larger crafts can use the boat ramp just north of this beach, and you can drive right up to that ramp (north of the stage and parking area). It was a beautiful park and a great place to picnic, enjoy the water, and view the sunset!

This is a pretty remote car camping or RVing spot where I took my dog and two kids for a soggy Memorial Day trip in 2016. There are a few vault toilets and each site has a picnic table, tent base, and a firepit. There is no potable water. Our site #10 was okay - better than the ones between us and the highway but worse than the riverside ones. I'd say the best were 15, 16, 8, or 9 but I could be wrong. The river is pretty and my kids had fun tossing rocks and I let them roam unsupervised the whole time we were there. There are trails and sights such as waterfalls nearby. There is a boat launch in the campground and a neighbor camper told me you can find gold flecks if you bring a pan. The ranger guy comes twice per day and sells bundles of firewood for $6 each, cash only. We reserved our spot for $14/nt on recreation.gov but you can also go the first come first served route if you are a gambler. As compared with other campsites with dozens or hundreds of sites, we preferred the relative peace of Bedal.
