Near milepost 41 and across from a convenience store, turn left (north) onto 635th Place NE. Cross the railroad tracks and continue 0.3 miles. Reach a junction and keep left on 635th Place NE for 0.1 mile. The road becomes FR-6024; continue 3.9 miles to the trailhead. Watch for potholes." The hiking trail was mostly flat and it is a great, family-friendly hike that offers a lot of scenic views and exposure to forest life. I love landscape photography and this hike offered plenty of opportunities for dramatic shots. I was also pleasantly surprised to find so many mushrooms that were great for macro photography. I am attaching those shots to this review. The lake itself wasn't that impressive but we loved the overall scenery, relatively easy hike, and photo opportunities.

So first of all know that this trail starts in the middle of nowhere. You will take a windy gravel…read moreroad with lots of pot holes for a good amount of time before arriving at a gravel lot with roughly 10 spots for cars. There were also people parked along the side of the road. Note that the road is narrow, barely fits two cars passing each other. I took a Malibu out there and managed just fine. Once you arrive there is a bathroom, but definitely isn't clean or sophisticated so don't expect much. It was open when I got there around 945 on a Saturday morning. The parking lot did have roughly 8 cars already in it. I soon found out that most of those were from campers that had stayed at the lake the night before. This is definitely a trail for 8+ I did see some families with smaller kids but I can't imagine them lasting long with the rugged trail. The trail is also over grown in some places where I thought at one point I had gone off the trail where other points there is a definitive path built in. It look around 48mins for me (1.8mi) to the lake. Once you get there is clear why people stay. I'm sure the sunrise is beautiful! Beware that there are lots of people camping by so be mindful. Overall it's a nice short trail without a lot of altitude or climbing required. Roughly 80% shaded. Would not recommend it after a rain shower though as I can see where runoff could cut off the trail and/or it being extremely muddy.

Plan accordingly. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ Outdoor adventures keeps the guided groups small (maximum 12 people). I appreciate the small groups since this was my first time kayaking. Three types of kayaks are available: single, double or triple occupancy. Discover is an accepted form of payment. A Discover Pass is required to park at Spencer Spit. If you do not have a pass, a $10 day pass can be purchased with cash or check. There were several rangers checking passes on our visit so be sure to have a pass visibly displayed to avoid being ticketed. WHAT TO BRING - Signed Release of Liability - Bathing suit or non-cotton under layers preferred - A synthetic shirt (capilene, polypro, Under Armor, etc) - Shorts or pants made of a synthetic material (may get wet/damp) - Lightweight fleece jacket or windbreaker/rain jacket to provide warmth - Water shoes or sandals that strap on (or shoes that can get wet) - Sun hat and/or sunglasses - Sunscreen and chapstick - Water bottle - Optional; Camera, Plastic bag for wet items and change of clothing - If you have a gift certificate or prepaid voucher (such as Groupon) please bring a printed copy with you! Dorito Dan was our guide for the day. Dan was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The first hour is dedicated to introductions, procedures and safety. Be sure to use the restroom before departing. Once on the water, there is no turning back. Kayaking is great for teamwork and communication. Both are required to avoid frustration. I recommend wearing weight-lifting/bicycle gloves in order to prevent blisters. Each person in our group started getting blisters towards the end of the tour. During our 3 mile kayaking trip, we spotted starfish, seals and majestic bald eagles. Thank you Outdoor Adventures for providing a magnificent day of play while surrounded by gorgeous Mother Nature. We all plan to return in the near future for another go-around.

This was one of the most amazing trips I've ever been on, and I can't imagine doing it without…read morePhil's help. We didn't know anything about going on safari, and Phil build a custom trip that catered to exactly our personal travel style of going to some of the more off-the-beaten-path places with fewer tourists, but still lots of amazing experiences (we watched a family of elephants chase off a pair of male lions!). Everyone we met was on their 4th or 10th safari and when they found out we'd never been before, they'd always ask, "So how did you even find this place?" Also I had no idea you could have a vacation with this much adventure and yet zero stress. Having Phil take care of everything and getting it all arranged for and paid in advance took a HUGE load off of us, which was so great as we both have jobs where we typically do a lot of planning and project management. By taking care of that, Phil let us go on an exciting vacation where we actually got to RELAX. Please do not go to this place! It is nothing like advertised. The hosts were the rudest I've ever…read moreencountered, and the sheets were absolutely filthy. We were so uncomfortable that we decided not to stay, even though it meant driving 2 hours back home, returning the next day for an event, and driving another 2 hours again. We arrived 30 minutes before check-in because it was our first time in town, and we wanted to ensure everything went smoothly. As soon as I walked in, I honestly thought I was at the wrong place. The owner greeted me with a curt "Can I help you?"--as if she wasn't expecting us. I had to ask if I was in the right place, and she just shrugged. She immediately complained that we were early, asking, "Who are you?" and "Have you paid for the pet fee?"--all in a passive-aggressive tone. She told my husband to park "over there, by the pool," but her directions were so unclear that after asking three times, he parked where he thought she meant--only for her to snap that it was her husband's spot. When we saw our room, we were shocked to learn we had to share a bathroom with another guest--something not mentioned in the listing. Our only private area was a tiny bedroom. On top of that, we were hit with endless rules: We could only let our dog outside when her dogs weren't there, using a confusing "light signal" system. Shoes had to be removed at all times. Our dog's food and water had to stay outside. We had to be mindful of her 2-year-old child. The woman we were sharing the bathroom with was apparently afraid of dogs--why stay in a so-called "pet-friendly" place then? To make matters worse, the property is right next to a busy road with no sidewalk--unsafe and stressful for walking a dog. Finally, the bed was disgusting: the sheets were covered in pet hair, and we even found an ear pain medicine packet under the covers--proof they hadn't been washed. That was the last straw. We packed up and left. When I told the owner we weren't staying, she coldly replied, "OK, cool!" When I mentioned the dirty sheets, she just repeated that it was "weird" because they pay someone to clean, without apologizing or offering to change them. I also told her she should disclose the shared bathroom, and she dismissed me with, "That's a B&B thing"--which is false. After reading reviews, I noticed she often claims not to "recognize" guests who leave bad reviews but has no trouble remembering all the 5-star reviewers. Honestly, I don't know how this place gets any good ratings. Believe me--do NOT stay here.
