It had been mowed.(you can tell. Didn't have to worry about running upon a snake or some critter. I did not see where to pay the $7 though, so I decided to see if I could find it online. No ATM's etc. There was a metal box it seemed, but I wouldn't deposit any cash into that. They need a better means of collecting the $7. maybe at the entrance? Maybe they are working on that. (smile) Overall, it was a great experience and I did catch some buffalo fish. My neighbors caught a nice channel catfish using cut bait.

Thank God we weren't staying there. Like Joseph B., I came to hike. I mistakenly assumed this whole area is flat, and that's what I told the 9 other people in my party. I should have looked at a few more links because almost immediately there were short but steep hills - about 10 in succession just for the first 5 miles. And that's about as far as we got before we turned back. We were exhausted, but it was worth it. Even the three marathon runners in our group said it was a good workout. Start at the W. Juniper Point trailhead, not Cedar Bayou Marina, or you will miss some of the better lake views from the trail. You can follow the trail markers to Lost Loop or cut through the Marina and continue on the Loop on the west side of the Marina. Start early because it gets pretty hot mid-day in March. I'm so excited to find good hikes in N. Texas.

As for the cabin, its a disarranged fishing cabin. And having to clean it before our stay was not what we were there for. At $110 a night I would have opted for better if I had known. The shower is very awkward in getting in and out of, and the door seems to be about to let loose. We did NOT attempt cooking in the kitchen so we cannot vouch for it. The cabin is cute and cozy in its appearance. But remember, DO NOT turn on the dirty ceiling fans!

The lake was flooded while we were there, so many of the campsites were not available, but it didn't impede us. It was quiet and clean and one of the best deals on the lake. The 1-bedroom cabins are small but great for the price. Well stocked with the essentials, and you can look out the windows at the lake. We chartered a fish guide and had a great experience catching stripers, getting our limit in just a few hours.

There isn't any water in the fitness center so you have to leave to go to the office to get some or the bathrooms. Traffic in the area is a mess so plan on sitting on the 2 lanes roads for a minute. Internet connection is always struggling. The showers are beautiful but while the looks were focused on, the plumbing was not. The water gets luke warm at best.

You're a bit at the mercy of whoever is there. A lot of people were there for the day backed up to a covered spot and blaring music. There was a depressing amount of trash around. The castles are neat and after doing some web searching we found some history about them (not offered by the park itself which is odd). Some areas feel pretty unsafe. The store just sells towels, $2 water shoes for $20 and life vests. No swimming allowed today (it's still winter and because of flooding) but a lot of people were in various areas of the river. The bathrooms were spread around the upper areas and I think mostly for campers and cabin folks. No one is policing anything though. The ports potties were rank.
