Shiprock, a formidable rock formation rises from the desert floor. Kinda resembles a majestic ship sailing through sandy seas. The Navajo people held it sacred, honoring its significance for generations. Shiprock is a towering, weathered rock commanding respect, shaped by nature's enduring forces. Its origins intrigued me, and I immersed myself in its history. Legend spoke of a great flood, and the Shiprock served as a vessel of salvation for the Navajo people. Transformed into stone, it symbolized protection and resilience. Very very interesting.. Stepping out of my car, I neared the monument, captivated by its grandeur. The colors and patterns etched into the rock unveiled the passage of time. Yet, the desert had other plans. Suddenly, winds roared, untamed and furious. Sand swirled, obscuring the monument. The tempest, relentless, threatened my presence. Struggling to stay upright, I sought shelter in my car. The wind rattled, buffeting the vehicle, while dust particles assaulted the air. It felt as if I'd stumbled into a wild haboob, nature's chaotic storm. With great effort, I retreated to safety, my heart pounding. Inside the car, I realized nature's power had exceeded my expectations. The monument, once serene, transformed into a battleground. Summoning courage, I started the engine and escaped the storm's clutches. Gratitude washed over me as the wind subsided, leaving a calm desert in its wake. With memories of Shiprock imprinted on my mind, it makes me wonder if there is something almost supernatural about this location...

Windmills are the biggest waste of taxpayer dollars in American history. The companies or groups…read morewho put these projects together make incredibly money! We just finished the Whitewater project with 17 windmills using 74 meter blades. These blades and most components come from China and are shipped to San Diego. Moved out of the port at night and taken to a lay down yard on the West side of Mojave Airport. As the Whitewater project has the concrete bases in place the tower sections are brought in and finally the generators and blades. By the time the substation is built along with the other components the project will cost over $170,000,000 and each windmill will produce about $210,000 worth of electricity in their lifetime for a cost of over $10,000,000 for each windmill. The blades are made of fiberglass which is a petroleum product. The generator typically come from Taiwan and shipped to Longbeach. But the biggest waste would certainly be Delta, Utah, owner by Intermountain Power Agency (IPA) and operated by LA power which changed out the coal-fired generators to natural gas-fired generators because California passed a law that forced the change. 97% of that produced energy is transmitted to California. Those massive generators were shipped to Longbeach and moved to Delta, Utah. Surprisingly the coal-fired generators produced no soot because the exhaust smoke was scrubbed and only and only steam came out of those stacks. THAT'S WHY THE ELECTRICIL POWER IS SO EXPENSIVE IN CALIFORNIA. OVIOUSLY THERE IS MUCH MORE TO THE STORY, BUT THAT WILL GIVE THE READERS A SIMPLE UMDERSTANDING OF WHY THEIR ELECTRICIL COST ARE SO EXPENSIVE!

This pass is consistently one of the windiest spots in the U.S. These wind turbine generators produce electricity by harnessing the wind. We recently had the opportunity to visit Palm Springs for a few days. My wife and I brought our own…read moree-bikes along, and so we followed the local bike trails that we knew. For lunch we made a stop at Sherman's Deli which shouldn't be missed. Upon starting our 6 mile ride back to the hotel, we discovered that one of our bikes had a rear flat tire. It's always the rear, isn't it? What could be harder to change than a rear flat on a 65 lb e-bike, assuming I had brought a wrench. I could have ridden back solo, brought back the car and bike rack, picked up the broken bike and then drove back to the hotel. But, then we'd still have a bike with a flat with a few more days left in our trip. (sigh)... Hoping for the best, we did a Google search for bike shops in the area. That's when we found BIKE Palm Springs nearby. They were a bike rental shop, but maybe they'd help us. I rode the working bike over to BIKE PS and asked, and they said "no problem"! About 20 minutes later, Tony had put in a new heavy duty up-graded tube, replacing our thin standard tube that wouldn't hold up to the 'goat heads' that can be found on the trail, and had us ready to go again. We had some time to look their shop over while we waited - great helpful staff, clean shop, and nice well-maintained RAD and Aventon E-bikes. You couldn't ask for much more, we've ridden both in the past and liked them. So a big thank you to Tony and the rest of the staff that helped us at BIKE Palm Springs. You saved our day!

The trails are clean, the water's crystal clear, and the canyon views hit every time. No, you can't fish here--the trout were booted for wrecking the ecosystem. Deal with it. Now it's just nature the way it's supposed to be. Easy parking, spotless bathrooms, and the sound of water flowing all around you. Bring water, respect the land, clock out and enjoy the beauty of what we often overlook in life.
