Great service and staff. I had an issue with a truck that was showing check engine light and stuttering when I accelerated. Whitlock got it in quickly and they were great at letting me know what was happening at each step. I picked the truck up and shortly down the road the issue started again only a bit different. They put the truck back in the shop and replaced a part and did not charge anything more. They were responsive, polite and professional. This is how a mechanic's shop should run. Services: Engine repair, Auto engine diagnostic I was traveling through Texas when the motor in my Chevy Suburban apparently failed. I had it towed to Whitlock's. They handled my case professionally and I was very satisfied with the outcome. Everyone was polite and professional. 5-Stars for their Mechanic skills and knowledge. However the biggest challenge was communication. And I am NOT exaggerating , some days I would call 10 times and no one would answer. They have several different phone numbers and I never could get anyone to answer. I was told they had a new phone system with some glitches. When I left messages, no one would return my phone calls.I give them 1-Star for communication and accessibility. So if you can physically go there to communicate face to face you are in GREAT hands! First off, the Good: this is one of the friendliest shops I've ever been to. The guy at the front desk is very kind and attentive. If you've ever been to a shop where it feels like you're standing around begging for someone to notice you, you know how frustrating that is. This shop is the polar opposite of that. If they can't get to you right away, they'll make that clear to you with the intention that they'll get to you ASAP. From a standpoint of customer service and atmosphere, this place is top-notch. The Not-So-Good: Each time I've come here, I've been charged substantially more than any competing shop. I typically change my own oil, but because I don't currently have a garage, I figured I would stop in and have them do it. I was expecting to pay around $70, all-in. Imagine my surprise when I was told I owed a total of $113.25! I was charged $76.86 **just** for the oil! (see pic of receipt). Granted, it was Mobil-1, full synthetic, which is the most expensive oil you can get ... but even on Amazon, five quarts of the stuff sells for $41.75, and I'm sure this shop gets some kind of deal for buying in bulk. So why on earth was there an 84% markup for the oil??? That's just outrageous. Furthermore: I also had Whitlock diagnose a failing reverse gear on my vehicle. There was a diagnostic fee of $150, which I thought seemed fair enough--I do recognize that it requires some time to properly diagnose a problem. They called and said I was looking at a new transmission, to the tune of $4400. I wasn't ready to pay that, so I decided to pick up my truck and 1) continue driving it for a bit longer until I could afford the fix, and 2) seek out a second opinion. I went to Eagle Transmission with the same problem. $0 for diagnosis. One week later, I had a remanufactured transmission in my truck for a grand total of $3582--nearly $820 less than what Whitlock had quoted me, and my truck's transmission feels brand new now. This is a tough review, because sincerely these are some of the nicest guys out there--but I just can't afford to be paying so much more above what competitors are offering. read more

The team here is absolutely fantastic! My wife's vehicle was giving her issues so she brought it to the Land Rover dealership (under warranty) who held onto it for almost 6 weeks. She gets it back and still the same issues. Whitlock took a look and in a couple hours had diagnosed the problem and fixed it same day! I came in here without an appointment this morning after trying (and failing) to get an oil change and vehicle inspection at another place down the street. Received a friendly welcome and was told that their inspector was not available today but they could do an oil change right away. I'd used this place when we first moved out to the Dripping Springs area in 2011. I thought they did fair work for a fair price. However, I'm finally writing this review due to an experience I had today. In January of 2014, I paid them to have a complete a/c replacement in my '05 4Runner. Here I am, not quite two years later, having to replace the whole a/c system again because the clutch isn't engaging properly, and in turn has caused the compressor to go bad. I understand parts on vehicles go bad -- any moving parts do eventually -- but to have a brand new a/c system have to be replaced again after not even two years is unacceptable. But that's not even the worst part about it! Here's why I'm really frustrated and writing this review: I call and speak to Cory to find out if the parts and/or labor are under warranty. He asks me to wait so he can find out. I wait. He comes back on the line and tells me that his parts guy will replace the parts, but I have to bring the car in today, because the parts guy may change his mind tomorrow! I then ask him if he can give me a rough estimate on what the labor will run me -- he comes back with a quote of $1,150!! That is outrageous for just labor! For reference, I've stopped going to this place over a year ago and have been taking my vehicles to ProTech Automotive in Dripping Springs, because they're honest, and do good work at fair rates. They quoted me $1,200 to replace the a/c system before I called Austin's Automotive. I called ProTech back to verify their quote, and find out if that included both parts and labor -- which of course it does! Austin's Automotive may claim they're warrantying the parts, but that simply can't be the case. They're overcharging me on labor to make up the cost of the parts. Needless to say Austin's Automotive has definitely lost my business, forever. Shame on them for trying to rip me off and not even making an effort to actually warranty the work I paid them almost $1,500 to do less than two years ago!! read more

They just completed a full suspension kit on my brand new truck-major work. Turnaround was fast and exactly as projected and the quality of work exactly as I would have done. What a luxury. Whitlock is honest and fairly priced. James and Aaron are always eager to help solve any problems I am having with a car, and overall just wonderful to deal with. They recently updated the front lobby, and it is great (really love the look and comfort of the leather chairs). Whitlock has complimentary coffee/ sodas and water for customers to enjoy while waiting for their diagnosis or repair which makes the time seem to pass more quickly and typically I am pleasantly surprised at how fast they're able to wrap things up without ever sacrificing quality. LADIES BEWARE These people took 11,000 to fix my hummer and destroyed my vehicle. I took it in for the last round of work for oil sensors and gauges. They replaced all parts. I then picked it up drove to San Marcos for the adoption of my son and my engine blew 2 miles from the courthouse DUE TO NO OIL! They did not add oil after they had replaced the gauges and sensors. They were not only disrespectful but had no desire to fix what they had broken. NOW $6000 later for a new engine, engine block and everything else it is finally running. I will say that the new crew is very pleasant to work with and I have already taken quite a few vehicles to them for work. Truly a change of pace for the better with the new crew!
