In large part I say the Whittier Courthouse is 4 stars due to the judge who was assigned to our divorce case. Judge A. Verónica Sauceda was extremely professional on June 18, 2026. My ex and I were forced to sit through several other cases before us. The one right before ours was not very pretty. Judge Sauceda handled it well. Such wretched lawyers she had to deal with! The court system for Los Angeles is honestly a bit chaotic at first, but it is mainly because of the populous county. I had more questions after speaking with the judge so I called the hotline since my ex and I are representing ourselves... the guy I finally reached was friendly, but said an attorney would reach out to me no later than 3:30 pm. It is now 7:50 pm. I'm not hopeful for a callback tomorrow either. Parking was free but usually quite a long walk to the courthouse. Not a fan of the clerk's office at all here. This courthouse is a joke!! Mainly their "Self Help Center" The Law Clerks there need to be retrained and go back to school! I have been trying to get a divorce for over 1.5 years! My Ex and I share no property, no money, no kids and yet when I ask what all needs to be filed, I have received 4 different answers and was never provided all the paperwork that is needed to file! And I work in Law!! (Not Family Law...but I still know what is required to provide to a party filing documents) I am a paralegal and these Law Clerks at this courthouse are a JOKE!!! When you call, and IF someone picks up, they are absolutely rude! They talk to you like you should know what to do already...no dumbasses that is why we call the Self-Help Center, for you to guide us as to what paperwork needs to be filed! It all boils down to let them give you the LEAST amount of info so you are forced to obtain an Attorney! Why should someone who has an open and closed divorce with no shared anything need an Attorney!! This courthouse takes it SWEET time to review your documents! Easy to find. Found street parking. The person who was sitting in for the judge was rude and didn't want to listen to people. I was the last case she had. She right away dropped the charges on the woman I had a restraining order on because she wasn't doing the harm. Her underage kids were harassing us. Questioning the state of mind of a judge is extremely concerning. I feel like the judge may have a learning disability or just doesn't have great comprehension skills. Further more, there is a bailiff there that is WAY to old be to carrying. I saw her hands shake as she was holding the clip board, calling roll. Thats a major safety concern. If she can't hold a clip board steady, she sure can't hold a weapon and aim correctly. read more

Visited Clerks office today to file some legal paperwork, the wait wasn't too bad it was during lunch hour, The customer representative was very nice and cordial and helped me with some questions I had on my forms. Highly recommend filing your legal papers at this court. read more

Be sure to check the rules of the court. The time frame I was required to answer a family law action was a full week earlier than the paperwork I was served IF you do mail service. These rules should be included on all service papers. The self help center on the third floor was also unhelpful. They turned me away for any help at all for my category of problem. Most people don't need it, but there is no bike rack for the courthouse. The women's restroom on the third floor very much needs new countertops. This is a puzzling place but I was not answering here by choice. The whole system needs upgrading. What kind of world is it that divorces need to be so expensive and difficult with legal forms that are not clear. What kind of world is it that we hire people to run around and "serve" lawsuits on other people - by mail or by sneaking up on them. Isn't there a way for us to make dispute resolution less expensive, simpler, communicative, and not so technical? And why do we need to go broke to get a divorce? Why rip the hearts out of parents and kids with mean custody disputes? I vote for change. read more

Called in advance twice to get some divorce papers. I received the wrong papear work again and had to wait an additional hour for the paper I originally requested. I paid a big amount of money for an extra paper and I wouldn't even get a folder. They said they did not give out folders. The guy also wanted to give me a "document" receipt instead of a receipt with the description of the document I requested. I work for a Law Firm and needed information from 2014! Robert a court clerk informed me the file I was inquiring for was still a paper file that hadn't been scanned in and it was in the basement. He's told me the only way for me to obtain the information would be to appear in person and request the documents (which were located all the way in Upland!) he informed me he would try and retrieve the paper file for me to get the information I needed. Judge that I saw acted like if my case was another custody case that needed the same solution that maybe another case needed before. didn't take in account my position my pros or cons. Attitude of "seen one case seen all of them". I would not have come here to open a family case. They charge for all the paperwork you can get free at another court. I probably would go out of my way to go to a different family court. Clerks are rude and not helpful. I had excluded a few documents and forgot a cover sheet and the clerk was very curt about it and treated me like I was an idiot. Never answer phone calls. Never ending calls to them and if you are lucky, they will answer your call just to hang up on you just to clear the phone lines. I end up going in person and theres hardly anyone in the courthouse so no its not busy. Good luck trying to get an appointment with these people. Waste of time and a drive. read more

The Whittier Courthouse, which is located about a block away from Whittier College (Richard Nixon's alma mater) and near the downtown section of the city, will be closing at the end of this coming June. Yes, the same fate that is meeting the courthouses in Beverly Hills, Malibu and San Pedro is going to be shared by this medium-sized location near the L.A. County border with OC. For those of you in the neighborhood who are looking forward to receiving jury service summonses, speeding tickets, DUI citations and court dates for misdemeanor spousal abuse charges, you'll probably have to traipse over to Norwalk or El Monte instead. If the idea of traveling to courthouses further away is not your idea of a good time, you can thank the elected officials who have been bankrupting Los Angeles w/ idiotic union contracts and sanctuary city policies for illegal aliens. Get used to it folks. L.A. is going broke and this type of thing is just the beginning of what can be expected. read more

This is the first time I've served for my city... which I love by the way... WHITTIER FOR LIFE :) We've moved here about a year ago, and the courthouse is about half a mile away from our home. The crowd in Whittier is always friendly and the Courthouse employees are no exception. The officers greeted me w/ a smile as I went through security, the administrative staff walked me to my room when they realized I needed to direction, and most importantly our orientation was hosted by a charismatic and funny lady... to protect her identity we will call her Ms. G. Showing up to court for whatever reason can always be a major drag... but in this case, the friendly team at the courthouse really made the experience bearable. The courtroom itself is well lit throughout, with a lot of natural lighting seeping through the large windows. The abundance of security makes everybody feel safe, and the snack shop (located on the first floor) is large enough to accommodate everyone and everything. Plenty of restrooms too, a set on each floor to be exact. Whittier recently renovated their Police Department, I sincerely hope the Courthouse gets some funding as well, it definitely deserves it. You get paid $15 bucks a day for your services, I'd suggest donating the money to the Courthouse Improvement Fund :) Experiencing something like this makes me proud to be a Whittier citizen... Telephone hrs for self help are only from 8am to 9am an hr ONLY! which is not enough time and to make matters worse they don't answer the full hr after 8:30am they don't pick up there phone just had a question so i dont have to drive down there since its not close by i didn't choose this court to come to my ex did otherwise i wouldn't of came here or changed by now horrible service at self help and staff at front desk are rude hang up on you before your done talking if your representing yourself your most likely not gonna win unless your other also agrees with you judges dont read your paper work fully and will grant someone who's abused a child before custody of them...go to another court read more

I called today and they said they would check with the person that does the mail and call me back. No call back yet and they don't accept calls after 3:30. I am very disappointed in the Whitter Courthouse, because it seems like a reputable place, however the clerks in the Family Law services (ex. divorces) really don't care, one way or another, if cases get resolved/closed or not. For example, I filed for a divorce in November, and they rejected the paperwork, saying the names don't match (okay, they were correct: the first time I used First Name Middle name, and second time I used First Name Middle Initial). I re-submitted it correctly, and then they rejected the paperwork because it was filed out of sequence (I called and found this out later). I then hired a paralegal to do this work on behalf of myself, because it literally takes me 2-3 hours out of my work day to drive down here, find out some information, and drive back home. Now, the paralegal had trouble working with the Whitter Courthouse as well, and they rejected the paperwork 2-3 more times, saying the names don't match, or giving a very vague answer for the reason why. How does anyone conduct business this way?? You would think that the employees would actually want the "paper pile" to go down in size, and get these cases to move along, get problems resolved, and cases closed. These people just don't care what happens, and my paralegal told me firsthand, that the Whittier courthouse is NOTORIOUS for rejecting divorce paperwork, just because they can!! Wow - seriously!?! : { Now, I have been waiting for OVER a year and a half, and my paralegal is still struggling with this courthouse to get things to move forward with the paperwork! I am speechless, and this is COMPLETELY unacceptable!!! How does anyone conduct business this way? I wish I could go somewhere else to file for a divorce in Los Angeles county. This place is the absolutely the WORST place to go to file your divorce paperwork! Horrible!!! read more

I like this place because there is free parking within a short distance unlike the court in LA. The building is small so you don't have to walk a mile to get from one end of the building to the other unlike the court in LA. I can't vouch for the people that work there but the parking and size are a big draw for me. read more
