The back wall is lined with rolls upon rolls of remnants, even floor-sized cuttings, so it's worth stopping by if you're not in the market for a flooring overhaul and just want a few pick n' mix pieces. I've brought a lintel, some silicone, a lock and lengths of wood from M and R. I've found them chatty and knowledgable. It's very easy to just drive in and load up your van or car, without attempting to find a place to park on the busy and double yellowed Cowbridge road. Two beautiful Alsatians guard the yard after dark and a caravan is tucked in the corner. I'm not sure who lives in it, it may be a fancy kennel for the Alsatians I fancy. M and R is great for both the professional builder and DIY enthusiast alike.

They have everything here - Dulux and Johnson and Leyland trade paints, rolls of linoleum flooring, painting supplies, fence coating, poly filler and pretty much anything else you'd need to complete a house project. They stock wallpaper, paint, and tools, all of which aren't at all pricey, but trust me this is the first port of call for most Cardiff decorators. The gentleman in store is very friendly, will quite happily mix up paint for you, and is bothered when I ask dumb decorating questions (quite frequently I'm afraid). I was rushing like crazy to get to the shop before closing because I needed a replacement ballcock system for my water tank, (or is it a stopcock? Where am I getting this ballcock from? The shape may be?), anyway, there I was pelting down Whitchurch Road on foot trying to find B G S Industrial, and so I marched straight passed BGS Plumbing Supplies as I wasn't sure that what I thought was a rival company would have the particular stopcock I required, (I was looking for a very old style system that has different measurements to the newer mechanisms). With minutes to spare I didn't want to make the mistake of going to the wrong place as I wanted to go home to turn my water back on... anyway, you get the picture...! Yes, BGS Plumbing Supplies is B G S Industrial, and yes, they had closed by the time I had put two and two together!
