It's a real Alladin's cave selling absolutely everything you could ever need, and quite a lot that you could probably live without as well! Staff are friendly and some of the time it appears that they look just as lost as the customers in there! On the whole, it is a really useful little place to have in the town. A Wilkinsons opened recently which I think have taken a lot of business away from Brian's which is a shame as they're a bit of a Brigg institution, but hopefully they'll survive and continue to give the good service they have done for years.

It is worth looking in Gee Jays before buying anything from B&Q or similar places. They have stock clearance items and regular stock as well. The stock varies widely and is regularly updated to accommodate seasonal stock. If you are doing a spot of DIY I imagine you can get everything from here, as they have paint, brushes and cleaning equipment. The main downsides to this shop are: 1) Parking, there are a few spaces on the road outside, but the shop is a 5 min walk out of town; 2) Accessibilty with wheelchair, pram or similar. I find it hard to navigate a pram around, so have to make arrangements to go there on my own.

It shouldn't be: this place sells probably just about everything a budding DIYer or seasoned craftsperson could want. When you enter the shop your nostrils are filled with the scent of DIY history. Whether you're after glue, polyfiller, drill bits or string (all things I've been in for) you need only ask one of the very knowledgeable staff at the counter and they'll scurry off into the depths of the store to find it (or suggest numerous alternatives if they can't).

The inside is tiny, but packed to the rafters with kitchen and houseware…read more Cluttered but in no way messy, and far more reasonably priced than other local kitchenware stores, without compromising quality. Outside they also display their wares, so it's a real experience before you even enter the shop! Gilbert's has an extensive collection of almost everything, and the shopkeepers have excellent product knowledge. My most pleasant experience is when I bought a quality set of salt and pepper grinders - with lifetime warranty - for a tenner...! After enquiring if I needed help I advised what I was looking for. Seconds later they produced a few different sets matching what I'd described and were talking me through each one. I made my selection and the sale was complete. 3 years later and they're grinding corns and crystals as good as the day I bought them. Only bad point is they close for a half day on wednesdays. But that somehow adds to the charm.

As a warehouse it is very large and has a good Trade section too. For all it is large it isn't daunting but actually very comfortabke to browse around. It has all the usual DIY products, a large selection plus bathroom and kitchen displays. The lighting section is one of the best I have seen - very inpsiring. They also ave fires and fire surrounds. The bare bones of DIY - wood etc is plentiful. Outside there is a small garden section and all thouh pricey the plants are very good quality. Their seasonal displays and goods in summer and at Christmas are very good. In fact they carry some very interesting and unusual Christmas decorations. The staff are very helpful and they do carry more 'mature' staff who have a wealth of DIY knowledge they are only to happy to share with you. I've learnt a lot of DIY hints and tips here! There is a customer toilet in store and a small coffee shop which serves a very good cuppa and has a range of sandwiches and cakes. If you are dashing out mid project it's a nice place to have a quick break.

I have tried to buy some offcuts of wood in the past and they refused to let me pay. Parking is available at the front of the store, but is generally busy. Great shop.

Also has great kitchen and bathroom sections, with the various rooms assembled. Good garden section. Also has Whittard coffee shop, which sells great coffee. Staff are very knowledgeable, its such a big store that it can be hard to find what you want, but they are happy to help and advise on the right product.

Although we had to wait a while to sit down with a member of staff to work out what we wanted, it was good service when we did. They took our measurements and designed it in front of our eyes on a purpose built CAD system. They could even redraw it in 3D and add lighting from any direction and show us what it would like it in colour. Amazing! Our delivery didn't arrive on time though and I had to ring the store and chase it. Not so good on the after sales!

It is an Aladdins Cave of quality cookware and hardware items, every part of it is packed with items like baking tins, kettles, toasters, oven thermometers, tins of paint, to name but a few. If you're struggling to find something and don't want to venture into a city, Masseys is the place, you will more than likely find what you're looking for! The staff are knowledgeable and helpful too, all the more impressive when you consider how many items are sold here.

Basically this is the UK equivalent of the US giant Home Depot. Don't expect much help from the staff unless you ask - but Home Depot has the same model of course. I think B & Q have gone downhill lately but I know they are waiting to move into their new…read moresuperstore so they were not replacing stock recently meaning that if you went there for something then they more than likely will not have it. Their kitchen planners are good as long as you tell them your budget and exactly what you want otherwise they tend to go overboard. That said there are some bargains to be had especially with garden stuff this time of year, dont be afraid to ask them what has been reduced especially shop seconds or previously returned items. I do feel sorry for the staff as most of them obviously dont want to be there, (got that from the lack of smiles on their faces)
