I have officially been there and hiked that!

I started my day here at the new Widewater State Park. I didn't know, but this VA State Park will be one year old in November. It looks new and even the Visitor's Center still smelled like new wood. It was a rather large building and nicely lit and has clean restrooms with flushing toilets! The Rangers there were really nice and spoke with me a bit about the area. This location is in Stafford on the Aquia Creek which flows into the Potomac and eventually the Chesapeake Bay (so give a hoot and don't pollute)! I took the 1 mile trail they offered. It was nice. I saw a firepit with wooden seats around it, a Kayak "kiosk", and some great areas for cookouts. There's a lotta deer here so when driving to and from, please drive slowly.

Very COVID friendly. Nice picnic areas, trails and fishing spots. It was a little breezy because of the water and weather cold but still enjoyable.

    Spider hanging around the signage.

A bit out of the way for us however we had the place to ourselves which was very nice. Lots of wildlife. We really enjoyed seeing the Bald Eagles go back and forth over the water. A good day trip. We went to both sides of the park and they had a different feel as the part by the Visitors Center was different from the beach side. We enjoyed both.

I love this park! 5 miles away from the city and just to come here and view this place is amazing! You can come here and relax.

Playground by the visitor center and picnic area.

From there, a path led a few miles through tranquil forest before reaching a fairly anticlimactic ending. The view of the river was obscured by trees, and you couldn't really get down to the water on the muddy cliffs with signs telling you to stay clear. Still, if life is about the journey, it was a pleasant walk, and there were other trails. I suspect the area is interesting by canoe as well.
