Kedleston Hall is a stately mansion a few miles from Derby. The best ways to get there are by car…read moreor by bus (Bus No.114 to Ashbourne from Derby), the latter stops right next to the building. ATTENTION: The tickets for a visit to the house are being sold in the small ticket booth adjacent to the car park! Not inside the house itself! Kedleston Hall might not be as spectacular as some other family-owned mansions in England (Castle Howard in Yorkshire comes to mind!), but it is well worth a short trip. The rooms have all been restored to their 18th/19th century glory, and there are enough of them to keep you occupied for about an hour and a half. See my photos. Once you're done with the house, don't forget to visit the small church attached to it. It's very beautiful indeed. And you should definitely stroll through the large garden area in good weather, a fine place to unwind. The entry price (UKP 15 for an adult) is a bit steep, I must admit, but there are family options available. In the side wing you will find a small café with outside seating that offers scones and other typical English tea time niceties, and also some small meals.

The pictures were ok and the price was too so I decided to stay here. I was booked into one of their suites and wasn't let down at all. The room was really spacious, with a really nice, large bed, a large living area and nice en suite bathroom. Small touches like a nespresso machine and complimentary soft drinks were in the room. The room was in really good condition, very clean, light and had really nice decor. (see the pictures) The staff were also really friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back and stay here. The location in the middle of town is ideal! Great hotel, great city!

I had mentioned my husband's birthday to the staff as I asked them to have a bottle of wine waiting for us upon arrival, which they were more than happy to accommodate, and they also wrote him a little card along with some complimentary shortbread cakes and vouchers for two free drinks at the hotel bar. Such attention to detail and going out of their way to make our stay a good one was incredible, especially as we were only there for one night. I paid extra and went for a large executive room (shown in the photos I uploaded Room 201) at first glance it didn't look like you got a whole lot extra, but there is more space in the room, the bed is HUGE and one of the most comfortable night's sleeps I have ever had, and the shower was powerful and big enough for two ;) Despite being in the city centre, the noise level was minimal and the staff were friendly and helpful no matter what time of day, night or early morning we spoke to them! Breakfast was of good quality and had a lot of variety to choose from delicious all round. Would recommend and if I venture Nottingham way again, I will definitely be staying here!

I booked this after my internet booking went awry and I had 2 days to find somewhere. Glad it did…read morenow! What a lovely location! Easy walk form the main town, good sized room with ensuite, ridiculously comfy bed with a plethora of extras like home made flapjack style biccies in a tin (these were a South African version) and fresh coffee and teas on a tray in the room. The breakfast was the best thing, with a Veggie and Vegan option, as well as Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, and scrambled egg with a secret ingredient. I was blown away! Mrs Atkinson was a hostess with the mostest, having a chat to all the guests over breakfast, but they couldn'y have been more attentive. £60 a night for 2 in a room, £50 for me on my ownsome including the yummy brekkie. I was sooooo stuffed I didn't mind the dodgy lunch at the training venue! I walked up High Tor while I was there, and down to Matlock Bath and the Heights of Abraham. About an hour and half all told. Matlock isn't a big place, but it is canny enough. This week (3rd to 7th August) is the Bakewell Show, so watch out for queues on the roads.

Stayed here for a few nights whilst on business and the rooms were very well furnished with satellite tv and internet access. Car parking is free and you should be able to see your car from your room as its quite a small premier travel inn in terms of rooms and the space it takes up. Maids were friendly as were the reception staff. Managed to get the room in a sale so it cost very little and i was pleasantly surprised as to the quality and service. Great convenient hotel.

This was the fourth time I stayed at the Riverlights Premier Inn in Derby (on occasion of the…read moreannual Winter Ales Festival at The Roundhouse) - I always enjoy booking Premier Inn rooms, because they're just so reliably good. And such good value! If you choose the "Saver" option - i.e. after 24 hours you cannot cancel your reservation without having to pay the full price - these nicely furnished *** en suite rooms won't be more expensive than those at some fleabag in the city with shared bathroom facilities. Just make sure in advance that you really wanna go. All you can eat cooked breakfast is optional, and not cheap - I never book it because I prefer different kinds of breakfast (or no breakfast) on different days. The rooms all come en suite with a shower (Though this time, mine was sadly lacking any real water pressure!), a king size double with a very comfy mattress - good sleep quality is guaranteed - and more than adequate storage for your stuff. Efficient room service every day. Everything's kinda neat here - and everything's kinda "mauve". And that's the only reason I don't use Premier Inn exclusively when travelling in the UK. There's only so much mauve than I can take. ;) - Great location for Derby city centre and the directly adjacent Bus Station. Derby Midlands Rail Station is a 15 minute walk away, and the river's right next to it.
