We visited The Bayfield Inn while in town because we had heard it was one of the nicer dining spots…read morein Bayfield, and my mom and I were hoping for an elevated dinner experience by the water. The rooftop seating was the highlight -- beautiful views and a really nice atmosphere sitting outside overlooking the water. We ordered the steak frites to share. The steak itself was very good -- cooked perfectly and full of flavor. However, the presentation was very underwhelming. It was served as just a piece of steak on a plastic plate with no real plating or sides. Our fries were also removed as a side from our meal, thinking there was a miscommunication there with the kitchen. We also asked for an extra plate and silverware to share, and were given a paper plate and plastic utensils, which made it difficult to eat a steak comfortably and felt inconsistent with the expected level of dining. Just odd! Our server mentioned he was new, which we appreciated, and he did refill drinks and check in a few times. Overall, though, the service felt a bit flat and not especially engaging. At the end, the bill was around $75 for the steak frites plus a service charge, which we hadn't seen elsewhere in town. Between the pricing, service, and presentation, the experience didn't quite match expectations. Overall, the rooftop and steak were enjoyable, but the experience felt inconsistent.

They had just started serving dinner to the tables and our waitress Ruby was very attentive and helpful. You no longer have to go up to bar and place your order & then wait & pick it up. The cheese curds were some of the best we have had. Fish & chips was good/ one order was enough for 2. They had a good selection of beers & drinks. After a 3 hour boat ride it was just what we needed.

We love to tent up in the north shore during fall colors season. We aren't great at planning ahead…read moreso we scramble to find a campground.t he state parks are always booked months in advance, so it's the small private campgrounds in the area we enjoy. This one is sitting right on the lax lake. Every campsite will have some sort of view of the lake with some trees but it is not heavily wooded. You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. I felt that the tent sites were a little on the higher side for a campground but understandably so being on a lake with full bathroom, showers and laundry.

So I had to go to the front desk to get my coffee refilled, lotion refilled and on the second day I had to bring down the full garbage bags and get new bags and put them in the garbage cans myself. Now I don't really care if the bed is made, and I don't need the towels changed daily, but when you only get 2 coffee pods and there are 2 people in the room it would be nice to have them refilled. The photos on the website are deceiving when it comes to the toiletries, the "standard " toiletries are a body/hair soap dispenser in the shower, no conditioner and a foam hand soup dispenser next to the sink. Casino is very small and not well maintained. Many of the machines were out of service. I was very disappointed in my stay, especially for the price I paid for the room.

They've been around a while, or the cabins wouldn't be so close to the water. You couldn't build a resort so close to the shore nowadays. But way back when, Bob (yes, there was a Bob) built these small, humble, unassuming little pieces of paradise, and you get to enjoy them. The website is clear: the cabins are clean, spare, with some couches and/or easy chairs depending on the cabin, with a simple but entirely adequate kitchen. Really, it's all about the lake. You get to be right on Lake Superior, whether it's glassy or roaring, and you get to take it all in. As luck would have it, the owners are charming as well, friendly and easily available. My only reluctance in writing this review is that it make it harder to make a reservation. It's that good.

Cons: Very high price compared to most lodging options in the area. Bed mattress is very firm. There is a thin layer of pillow top, but it is well broken down. I had a back ache both early mornings, waking up well before I wanted to. The ironing board is one of those mini ones with a dirty old cover. Although there were wine glasses, there was no cork screw in the room. Although there are big candles in the bathroom there is no matches provided to light them. The s'mores kit we were provided had stale marshmallows. One of the bathroom sink bowls had some kind of unsightly chemical damage. In-room TV is small (20") and low quality. Refrigerator froze our milk solid. I'd be fine with the issues of this place, if the price was lower. For the price they are charging, none of these cons should exist.

Overall, I would stay here again. I love Two Harbors and the entire area. It's much better than going to Lake Tahoe bc there's little to no traffic & Lake Superior is the biggest freshwater lake in America.
