The steak itself was very good -- cooked perfectly and full of flavor. However, the presentation was very underwhelming. It was served as just a piece of steak on a plastic plate with no real plating or sides. Our fries were also removed as a side from our meal, thinking there was a miscommunication there with the kitchen. We also asked for an extra plate and silverware to share, and were given a paper plate and plastic utensils, which made it difficult to eat a steak comfortably and felt inconsistent with the expected level of dining. Just odd! Our server mentioned he was new, which we appreciated, and he did refill drinks and check in a few times. Overall, though, the service felt a bit flat and not especially engaging. At the end, the bill was around $75 for the steak frites plus a service charge, which we hadn't seen elsewhere in town. Between the pricing, service, and presentation, the experience didn't quite match expectations. Overall, the rooftop and steak were enjoyable, but the experience felt inconsistent.

We love Bayfield and Honeymooned there so, wanted to go back. It was a nightmare 24 hours to say the least. Safety is the biggest problem! There was no locks on the doors besides your own room in the house. Our room was next to a shared kitchen and the first night we stayed two strangers got into the house and were drunk etc. loudly knocking pictures off the walls, fighting loudly with each other, moving furniture, swearing, singing, and tried to get into our room. We have never stayed in a shared space before so thought this was just an odd experience having nothing to compare it to. Finally hearing someone snoring behind our door at 3am we got up and opened the door to a woman and man sleeping. Like literally opened the door on them and had to step over them! We were both very scared and ran over to the help desk for the Bayfield in across the street. I told the front desk that they needed to get these strangers out of our place, we do not feel safe, and the cops should be called if they don't leave immediately. We went back up the stairs to our room and they were STILL sleeping and completely out of it. My husband and i had to yell at them to move so we could get in our room to pack our things. Nobody from the front desk every came over to help. We then asked for a complete refund, packed our stuff and drove 5 hours home after just getting there less than 24 hours before. Absolute nightmare vacation. After speaking with the Manager - Alicia - for The Bayfield Inn, she told me she was talking with upper management and locks will be put on the house. Mind you ALL doors to the place were left open ALL night from complete strangers coming in from off the street! Children and families were also staying in suites there. I told her all I care about is them getting locks so nobody else has to go through what we did. I never received a call as promised from her letting me know locks had been installed. It was such a traumatic experience that visiting Bayfield has been tainted for us. Just watch out for this place. Safety should be the biggest priority for a business. I have never even had this horrible of an experience from a 2 star hotel. Good luck all!

(You can walk to town in about 15 leisurely minutes without worrying about parking there). -- the room was clean, and had some conveniences (small microwave, tv, coffee maker (but no tea!), toiletries), -- the very small bathroom has a tub/shower combo, -- we didn't hear traffic noise in spite of being on main route into town, -- there was free parking. However, -- the price point was high given the overall quality of the motel and the fact that it was still pre-season. This is effectively a small and rather dated budget motel. -- Breakfast is NOT included in the price of the room. -- Our bed creaked whenever either my husband or I moved. -- Rooms are close together, and there is no privacy if you want to sit on the shared back porch. -- The motel has a unique check-in procedure. When we entered the lobby, there was no one there. We needed to call or text to announce our arrival, and were then provided instructions on how to access our room. We didn't interact with any staff in person until checkout. We would stay here again if we were to return to Bayfield, but would compare options to see the best quality to cost ratio.

We stayed in the Fedora suite. Had one large bedroom, a big bathroom and a good sized living room. The living room was not crowded with a couch, tv, round table, a small refrig, a sink and a very small kitchen counter with microwave and coffee maker. The view from the couch was great! The property is on a hill about 40-60(?) feet above the lake level. The wall is mostly glass so the inside view is great. See the picture of the sun rising. There was a sitting area in front of the glass wall. Better view but subject to weather and bugs. See picture of the sunset. Service: 2/3 stars When I pay $160 a night I expect good service. This did not occur during our stay. Taken individually the below items are mostly minor. Taken together over 2 nights they reduce the pleasure of being in a nice place. Items are listed in approximate order of occurrence. 1) Only enough toilet paper for one use. When I requested more was told they were picking some up on the shopping trip that was taking place as we spoke. 2) Cigarette smoke wafted into our room for the owners deck. This is advertised as a non-smoking property but this does not seem to include the owners and their friends. See picture of the guidelines. 3) No soap in the bathroom. 4) Coffee pot and filters included but no coffee. There was popcorn, hot chocolate and tea by the microwave but no coffee. 5) Breakfast was promised between 8:30 and 9am. It arrived at 9:04am, this was ok. The breakfast was individual ramekins of quiche which was very good. There were 5/6 very small sausage patties that looked greasy , were not warm enough and somewhat undercooked for my taste. We did not eat these. The drink provided was apple juice. No seconds were offered. This is first time I have every had breakfast provided in a hotel/motel/b&b and I left hungry. Did not stay for breakfast the second morning. 6) Took three trips to the office to find someone that I could pay before we left. All of the six items could be fixed with some management talent.
