This place is a real working and educational farm. You must come to visit. There are not many places that I know of that offer this type of shared insight and opportunities to take part. A couple of months back I was in Ecuador visiting a farm to learn about Permaculture, various composting, and different methods of growing techniques. The name of that particular farm is Rio Muchaho Organic Farm and Eco-Lodge. Wild Willows will teach you much in the same way but there is no where to actually stay. It's a place to visit, study, and work for the day. I am currently taking an Herbal Medicine class that is 2 days long Saturday and Sunday from 10-5pm. First day we discussed herbs in the field, there was engaging lecture, hands on experiencing learning how to make fermented foods, made natural beauty products like cream and salves. Lunch was included and was sooooo delicious and fresh. The class was full and this tells you that many people have an interest in these topics. The other class mates were kind and super interesting. At the end of Day we got to take home jars of yumminess and tins of body cream and salves. How wonderful is that! It can get very hot. Check the weather. Bring a big sun hat, a light wrap to cover your shoulders from the sun. A water container that can keep your water cool. You will learn lots and make new friends who share the same curiosity about nature. Go check out their next events. Last thing... there were several people in class that drove from afar to come to this class. They made a weekend trip just to attend. For people who live in San Diego or across the border... this resource is right in our city... do take advantage of this unique resource as you don't have to spend as much on gas or hotel to get access to this experience. I've been a big fan of Wild Willow Farm for many years, loving the special events they've had, music, potlucks, pizza, nature walks, classes, but started getting my CSV box of veggies every week because I didn't want to got to farmer's markets or stores. Crazy I've been missing this for so long and I'm learning about new foods, trying new things, discovering new recipes and my husband and I can barely finish each week's full share of produce before the next one comes to our common delivery point. The food tastes better than anything! I've just started adding their seed bread to my order. It's a shame I didn't do this sooner. read more

This place is pretty cool. They are helping Maria Galleher at CVHS with the school farm, they have core curriculum for grade-school through... Mel makes a mean pizza (outstanding) for the Saturday evening classes, the goats are adorable and friendly. This place is a great place to learn and get your hands dirty. Friendly, welcoming knowledgeable staff that makes the experience a win win. read more

This is an AMAZING little farm with WONDERFUL staffs who are all PASSIONATE about what they do. My 2nd grader's class took a field trip here and I'm glad I got to go. Farmer NASH and J are AWESOME (in the photos), to say that they knows their craft is an understatement - very passionate and knowledgeable, tasting fresh Rosemary and carrots and learning about decomposing was so fun and interesting to learn for both kids and parents! What a hidden gem! I had no idea about this place until I ended up there for a Kombucha making class, but I'm so excited to know about it now! I plan to take more classes from them in the future to hopefully improve my green thumb. read more

I came here with my preschool daughter's group, and I think this farm is geared towards much older kids. Our kids weren't able to touch anything other than the compost, we were constantly told what not to do, and even though they have a cute little playground with a slide, the kids were constantly told to keep moving forward with the tour which left us with no playtime at all. I would expect a little more freedom to explore on a farm, but the employees were pretty strict - while telling our group they were going to pick some strawberries, we all had to stand back behind the line and watch instead- what's the fun in that? I'm sure they mean well, but for a $20 entry fee for my daughter and me (our group rate), I was hoping to taste a little more than one strawberry. Overall feeling was meh. read more

A wonderful place to spend the day. There are open Volunteer hours from 10am to 3pm and wonderful guidance and teaching. Great place to get your hands dirty and learn as well. My husband loves to garden and is always looking stuff up and needed to volunteer for the Navy so this place was the first on my mind to go give our time. I finally have my allergies under control enough to go dig in the dirt too which Im thrilled about. I have been wanting to get out and meet more like minded people since we are pretty new in town too. Will certainly be back - a truely lovely place for the community - glad it's here! read more
