They have different tiers especially for those who are unable to pay full price, no questions asked, which I think is a great model to promote food security. Aside from produce, they also sell eggs, poultry, and artisan goods that have a table and switch up their offerings weekly. Do note their hours are very limited - they are only open Tuesdays and Saturdays. My last haul here included cherry tomatoes, spinach, bokchoy, passionfruit, and dino kale. I am trying to make it a routine habit to come here throughout the week! So happy I finally found this spot as I cannot believe it took me this long!

I've been to this farmers market over the years - they stopped having it for a while and it was brought back by the ASCENDKemet Collective. This last time I went there was a vendor selling coffee/pastries, one selling pupusas, one selling pizza, two vendors selling green leafy vegetables (like collard greens, kale and bitter leaf), and Bernardino Loera Farms - notable for the seasonal avocado varieties they sell like fuerte, zutano, bacon - whenever the season for those comes up. This one is in a convenient location near the City Heights Library, a nice little park, and an El Super. There is parking on Wightman on the other side of Fairmount Avenue as well as other side streets in the area.

In normal times, Bikes del Pueblo (see my review) brings a bike repair stand. Hopefully they will be returning to CHFM soon. Tips: - Free parking at Price Garage on 43rd Street. - Follow them on Facebook and Instagram for their fresh picks of the day. - Foodshed's Mobile Market sells produce in front of the City Heights Community Garden from 9 to 11 am on Saturdays. It's located across 43rd Street from CHFM. - Bring cash.

Wow!! Now THIS is a top-notch Farmers Market (and I consider myself to be a Farmers Market…read moreconnoisseur). If you can get over the fact that parking is a nightmare (tip: get there early and use the free parking lot at the DMV) you'll love every second of your time here. We got there around 9:30am and were lucky enough to snag a spot at the aforementioned lot - about a 5 minute walk from the start of the market. From there, we took about 2 hours to fully explore, including a quick stop at a cute and affordably-priced vintage stop right off the vendors' booths. There is a huge variety of goods, mostly consumables with a few jewelry and handmade goods worked in. The vast majority of consumables booths had samples. I tried balsamic vinegars, loads of dips, some fresh fruit and tomatoes, bread, tempeh, you name it. I wasn't even hungry for lunch after going! If you aren't keen on samples, there are lots of prepared food booths for a full meal. Prices are reasonable. I bought a delicious Mediterranean 3 layer dip for $6 and my brother got a massive focaccia loaf for $10. The vendors were very friendly and helpful. Many (most?) also had business cards with shipping info if you're like me and have a full suitcase already. I would consider this market a must-visit if you find yourself in San Diego on a Sunday. Loved it!

Hillcrest Farmers Market (opened in April 1997) is San Diego's original and largest farmers market…read morewith over 175 vendors. [Hours]: Sunday (rain or shine) from 9 AM to 2 PM. [Parking]: Difficult parking situation, but I got really lucky and found a street parking spot near the intersection of Cleveland Ave and Richmond St at 9 AM. Apparently visitors can park for free at the DMV parking lot (3960 Normal St), but the lot fills up quickly so come early. According to the website, visitors can also park at the United States Postal Service parking lot at 3911 Cleveland Ave. [Amenities & vendors]: The farmers market does not accept EBT. The market takes up about three large blocks and visitors can find produce, gifts, arts and crafts, flowers, clothing, etc. Not many fruit stands offer samples, but other non-fruit food vendors do provide free samples. The market also has a solid food court including one vendor selling coconut pancakes (Coconut & Co. Thai Fusion). The coconut pancakes (aka khanom krok - $4 for 8 pieces) reminded me of the sticky rice from mango sticky rice and these pancakes were actually quite good. [Conclusion]: Our party only ended up staying for 30 minutes, but overall this is a great farmers market for anyone who's looking for solid one-stop food options and not necessarily looking for a produce-focused farmers market.
