The director, therapists, and staff at Wildflower Mountain Ranch (WMR) were and are deeply committed to helping our daughter heal, learn, and grow. They worked together to help our daughter feel safe, supported, and connected during her eight-month stay and in the four months since she returned home. Last summer we looked into several residential facilities for our daughter. We, and she, chose WMR specifically for their home-like, non-isolated environment, as well as their variety of therapeutic modalities. Our daughter was involved with horses, music, art, farm work, school work, and a wide variety of community activities. She received excellent teaching and mentoring from caring and committed staff and support personnel. Though our daughter was particularly challenging, the WMR team worked tirelessly to support and build trust with her. They worked to help her regulate emotions, get medical check ups and psychiatric care as needed, progress in school, learn practical skills, and find ways to positively use her talents. Our daughter's first therapist was good, then changed employment part way into our daughter's stay. The new therapist (LCSW) was excellent, and worked well with our daughter and with us. We had regular contact and access to her clinical documentation. We talked with the clinical director as needed, and she guided the WMR team. I reviewed this place based on my phone experience when I was looking for a residential place for my daughter. Bridget was so nice through the process of getting her in. Our long talks and many promises had me convinced that this was the place for my daughter. The first month was great but after that reality hit. All of the promises didn't happen. My daughter missed a lot of school because the girls wasn't enrolled. My daughter never went to the doctor for an exam or for a infected swollen eye but did go for a TB test. She never saw a psychiatrist but needed medication refills. Never went to the optometrist but needed glasses. She was the only black girl and needed her hair done badly but never went to the salon we had to drive to Utah from Califirnia to do her hair so she wouldn't feel embarrassed. She was made to clean up after the farm animals and wash dishes when the white girls didn't want to they wasn't made to. The girls would get together and talk about the only black girl and isolate themselves from her and make her feel alone on several occasions. Two new white girls came to live there and the would call her bit..es and h.es and the two sisters would get in her face trying to provoke her into a fight. The first time they did it a big argument got started and they called the sheriff on my daughter and then the last time they did it a fight happened and they called the police on my daughter and they took only the black child to a holding cell and left her overnight and the two white girls that kicked, pounched and pulled my daughters three braids out had a chance to stay home and sleep in there own beds. The next day Veronica pencil whoop my daughter on her discharge papers only mentioning a one sided fight and kicked my daughter out of the program. They had a staff member spying on the girls when they talk to their parents and reporting what she hear them say and my daughter said if they let the parents know what is going on, the staff would retaliate against them. They was quick to point the finger at my daughter and say when she left a messy room or talk loud or sneak on her VR or something but failed to tell me the good things she did. For example, my daughter helped save a life at the skating rink when a child passed out. My child thought fast. She quickly went into action and used her loud mouth to hollar stop the music call 911 a kid just passed out and was unconscious. I let Bridget know that I would have loved to have heard about that. She said she should have told me but my daughter loves it when she is being praised. My family drove out to Utah to do my daughter hair and attened the church where my daughter played the organ for the church. While we were there they treated us very nice and took us out to the lake for a boat ride and water fun. I felt they was kind and maybe my daughter was telling me all of this because she wanted to come home but right after we left the chaos got started and we had to come back and bring her home. They are supposed to be trained professional to deal with children with mental issues and not call the sheriff on them for any time they feel like the black child is getting aggressive. It took two in that case three to tangle. Calling the sheriff on this young black child could have went in a whole different direction. If it was up to them leaving her there longer she could have end up in a Utah jail with a record so it was time to bring her home. My daughter started feeling like a slave. When a place is just after the money then they don't care what happens to your childs future. They will turn the story around to make it seem like your child is the problem when the truth is your child is the victim seeking help with their mental issues. So much has happened in the four months my daughter was there. A staff member name Lacy said to my child that her mom was impulsive and she text Bridget saying I was impulsive that I act just like someone name Cheryl. My daughter screenshot that conversation and sent it to me because she felt bad about them talking about her mom and knew they would try to deny it. So much have happened in such a short time.
