This is a very popular area for hiking and there are trails that connect with this one if you are looking to hike further. The trail starts at the Cathedral Spires trailhead and parking lot on The Needles Highway. The views of the Cathedral Spires are absolutely stunning. This well-marked trail has a steep gradient and rocky terrain so make sure to wear good hiking shoes. We climbed over lots along this trail so come prepared and bring water with you. Take some time to soak in the views here because they are truly incredible!

Visitor center in Custer State Park had a volunteer Park Ranger that was a wealth of information…read more Hands on displays which showed sounds of the bison herd, the jumps and the lifecycle of the bison. There is hands on displays and information about the annual buffalo round up and auction which started in 1965 to maintain the large herds. There were clean bathrooms here and a food truck next to picnic tables. The stockades and seating for visitors was right in front. There was a small gift shop next-door.

This was the 2nd of two cave tours I went to and it just as cool and interesting. I didn't like…read morethat one of them was denied entrance to the tour because he wore shoes though with closed toe have some holes on the sides and didn't have another one. The staff didn't provide other options or refunds so luckily there was something to do while I was there. Interesting that one young woman did got to come wearing the same shoes and didn't do a thing. Nice tour guide, video and exhibits and gift shop. Also be sure not to have any kind of bags, food/drinks, to be in good physical health and not be afraid of the darkness.

Compared to sylvan Lake Campground, this one lacked a little bit of privacy, but still a well…read moremaintained campground. We stayed in the site 25 which is technically a tent only/walk in site, but your car is parked right at the edge of your campsite so everything was still in close proximity. We had a staff member come up to us to check us in when we are setting up camp and she was so lovely. She told us everything we need to know about the campsite, where the drinking water was, what animals will be roaming the park, the pet policy, etc. The campsites are very shady which was nice! The general store has your typical souvenir apparel and gifts but also groceries, essentials, and beer! We enjoyed our stay but probably wouldn't pick this campground again because we personally like more secluded campsites.

We stayed at one of their basic cabins, which is a good value for money considering the other…read morelodging options within the park (that is not straight up camping). The cabins are pretty spacious, sleep 5 and have a nice outdoor patio, table and fire pit. Every cabin has parking for 1 car and bathrooms are shared nearby. The cabins were clean and basic, bring your own sleeping bag, pillow and whatever else you need. The only downside is the tiny bathroom, we had all cabins full and a good 120-130 people in the loop. But there is only 1 bathhouse with 3 toilet/sink/shower combo. It's not a regular bathhouse with 2 stalls shower, 3-4 toilets and 3 sinks. It was 3 actual bathrooms (they call it family bathrooms) that 100+ people have to share and get ready in the morning and nighttime. So once bathroom 1 had a family of 4 showering, that was blocked for half an hour. Got one more in the shower, you are down to a single toilet until someone decides to vacate the other bathrooms. Not ideal to say the least, you just have to get in line before you really really have to go. Lol The main lodge was across the street with good food options and there was also a small store and gas station on the campground side.

You can have postage stamp sized greens that roll fair, or you can have large greens that run like an ice rink. YOU CANNOT HAVE BOTH! To have both is unacceptable. It completely ruined my enjoyment of this round. Figure out what you want to be and stick to it but I won't come back and play this course under the current conditions.
