I have been to Rocky Knolls many times and until yesterday I have always found the clubhouse staff to be extremely pleasant and accommodating. Our tee time was at 9 am. We arrived early, a foursome, and were fully checked in by 8:30. Since I saw no golfers around, I asked if there was a group scheduled to tee of before us. The gentleman said a group of 2 was scheduled at 8:50. I hoped he would have suggested that we could go ahead and tee off since it was 20 minutes before the next group, who as best I could tell, hadn't even arrived yet--no such luck. Okay, our tee time was 9-0'clock and that was his call and I'm okay with that. Since a couple of us were not regular players, we decided on playing a 4-man scramble to keep the game enjoyable and to also keep it moving quickly. On the turn, we stopped to get beverages and I paid for them all instead of each having to pay separately and to allow getting back on the course quickly. As the attendant was ringing us up I tried to engage in some light-hearted conversation and I found his gruffness puzzling. Up until this time, I has always found the staff personnel to be friendly and engaging. Anyway, we completed our game and when we turned in our cart keys, there were no "Thank You's," Have a nice day," or "Come again" extended by the staff. To note, they were not overwhelmingly busy at this time. Our group was in no way rude or demanding. I'm hoping the folks were just having a bad day and this is not the normal demeanor of Rocky Knolls personnel.

There was a putting hole in a cave underneath a waterfall. How cool is that? Very unassuming when seen from the street, but once you play the holes, it's like a little hidden oasis. Took a tour of the facilities and they have lots of things to do. Darts, slots, pool tables, TV's, cards, the list goes on. There is a very nice golf course on site. It is one of the few lodges that is open to the public, in addition to Elks Members. They have 10 RV spots with water/electric hookups for members only. I'd highly recommend fellow Elk's to stop by if you're in the area.

Phoenix is by far the best golf metro in the United States in my opinion so I knew things weren't going to be the same, but this course was a breath of fresh air. Not only is the course well maintained it has some excellent views of the Black Hills. A major component I look at when judging a golf course in how well the greens are maintained and these greens are in excellent condition-extremely hard (as in difficult) but great. Have talked to several members that concur that this is the best course in town-would recommend to anyone looking to play a challenging and beautiful course.

This staff member didn't let us use golf carts even though we were PAYING CUSTOMERS and all had driver licenses. Not only this, but his attitude was completely unprofessional. We used the golf carts the time before our encounter with Jensen and had no issues. He said: "I don't care about last time this is this time" He also was very unprofessional when I requested to speak to his supervisor, he made the remark "I'm the boss today so my rules" He's really lucky I decided to let it go and be the bigger person or we would've had some serious issues. If this staff member is working, don't go. He is a worthless, unprofessional person and deserves to be terminated.

My Dad and I played here for the first time this morning since we are in the Chadron area for a few…read moredays. The course itself was beautiful, nicely maintained, and it was a welcome challenge. On hole one I hit my ball into the sand pit. This was my second time playing golf, and I didn't know I was supposed to rake the pit. This group of local guys were coming up the hole behind us after we had headed to hole 2 and started screaming at us from a long ways. My dad went over to talk to them, and the guy was a complete jerk saying it's "rude people like us that ruin the fun" and calling us names. I am a very careful and respectful person and did not know to rake or by all golly I would have! It ruined our day and fun. Those guys about hit us also when we were finishing up putting on hole 1. I respect people who instead of yelling from a mile away actually were adults and drove over to talk to us about it. That being said the course was great, but the people of Chadron were not.

We had spent the morning observing bison in the southern part of the park, and we were getting…read morehungry. We were in the vicinity of the Blue Bell Lodge, so decided to give it a try. We were driving a rental car, that had a wonky license plate that was hanging on by one screw. As we walked in the restaurant manager had noticed our license plate, and offered to help us fix it when we were finished. He then sat us in a partially full dining room, which is beautifully decorated. I went with the bison chili, and it was super tasty! For me, it was a little bit on the spicy side, but I know for a lot of people they would love it that way. I asked for a side of cornbread, as I had just ordered a cup of the chili, not the main chili meal, and they were very gracious and brought one out. The cornbread was also super delicious! As we finished our meal, it had started to rain. The manager stood by his offer to help us with the license plate, and met us just up the road a bit at a place where the maintenance supervisor's truck was located so that he could get us a zip tie to fix our license plate. It was such a nice gesture, and we appreciated that he went out of his way to help us. We would highly recommend the Blue Bell Lodge!
