The cliff dwellings are incredible to see up close. They're modeled after ancient Ancestral Puebloan structures (often associated with Southwest tribes like the Navajo), and walking through them really gives you a sense of how people lived long ago. One thing that stood out to me was seeing how small the doorways and rooms were -- it really shows how much shorter people were back then! What I loved most was the self-guided audio tour you can use on your phone. As you walk through, you just select the number for each section and it explains the history and significance of that area. It was super informative and easy to follow, and I liked being able to go at my own pace. I love history, so being able to take my time and really listen made the experience even better. The gift shop is huge and honestly impressive. They had beautiful handmade items inspired by Native American craftsmanship, along with the usual souvenirs like stickers, books, and t-shirts. But they also had unique items like jewelry, coffee, honey, and so many locally inspired pieces. It's basically a full building packed with things to browse. Overall, I absolutely enjoyed this stop. It was educational, interesting, and worth the time. I would definitely come back -- and I might bring my husband next time when he has a day off. If you love history, this is a must-stop when you're in the area.

There were sections for the various periods and a room dedicated to the Indian presence that was so much a part of the area. There is another room dedicated to rocks and ore found in the area, including the largest smoky quartz in Northern America. I learned about Kit Carson's favorite cabin, located nearby, and of the Ute prayer and medicine trees (my parents think they have one on their property). This is a free museum that operates on grants. I was asked to be sure to sign in, as that helps out with those grants that keep it a free museum. They also have a little store from which to make purchases as well. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by. A thorough visit can take you about an hour. You can also breeze thru in about 10 minutes and still have a good time.

There's a part that covers wagons, carriages, and buggies along with some Penrose history and another part (my favorite) that has the cars from the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. There are some awesome cars there like a very early Cadillac, a twin-engine Suzuki, a Nascar-style V-6 Mustang, and that infamously wrecked EVO. I went through and read a lot of the information and it took about 90 minutes, which lined up well with the parking validation that covered 90 minutes in the garage. The woman working at the time was helpful and we signed the logbook by the entrance. The museum is FREE to enter, which made it even better.

Once you get your visitor pass, take the escalator to the 3rd floor where the exhibits start. The exhibits are straightforward and interactive. You'll find several friendly staff members who are happy to answer any questions you have. Topics include both summer and Winter Olympic Games as well as the Paralympics. One of my personal favorite parts of the museum was the endless signed memorabilia, Olympic medals, and torches. I spent about 1.5 hours here from door to door, but you could easily spend 2+ hours if you read everything and interact with all the exhibits. And of course, the gift shop is right there at the end before you head out the door. As far as logistics go, I walked here since I stayed nearby, but it appears you have to pay for the parking lot across the street. Definitely a must if you're into the Olympics or sports in general, there's something for everyone!

The entrance also includes a free tour to see how the planes are restored as well as an area to do a flight simulator. There were so many great exhibits and our Docent Ed that gave us the tour was great! If you're a military or history but I highly recommend you visit if you're in the area.
