We found a deal on Groupon which helped with the cost and visited on a Sunday afternoon. Crowds were sparse and we ran into people every now and then but it was refreshing not to be bumping into people at every turn. They have excellent exhibits ranging from history to artifacts and a number of interactive exhibits where you can test your agility and be an Olympian for a couple seconds! They even had the Miracle on Ice scoreboard, so cool to see. Walk out of this place not chanting USA, USA, USA. I dare you!

Great local museum detailing the history and life of Colorado Springs and its environs…read more The museum has a variety of exhibits which tackle this from a variety of angles -- famous authors, local Native Americans, the Springs as a tuberculosis treatment center, pottery art, women's art, local tattoo art, the history of the city by decade, the history of a lost Latino neighborhood, etc. All is curated and presented in an interesting fashion -- there was some but very little of the "We don't have a lot to say about this person, so here's random biographical detail filler" sort of local museum content. The breadth of presentation extended to a potpourri "A-to-Z" exhibit with bits of info about a wide variety of topics (did you know that Lon Chaney was from Colorado Springs?). We easily spent three hours touring the exhibits, and I count the time well spent. The building is the former El Paso county courthouses and offices, and is truly lovely. One of the courtrooms has been preserved as an exhibit. Staff was friendly. Admission is free (though donations are encouraged).

The elevator took us up to the second floor and the museum bristled with quality exhibits of shiny beautiful machines. I sure if I had tried I could not have wiped off the smile off my friend's face. You don't have to pay but there is a box where you can put in a donation if you so choose.

There are quite a few old school Harley-Davidson bikes - my favorites were the World War II era bikes. I always wonder what it must have been like to ride those old Harleys - compared to the bikes we have nowadays. Take some time to visit the Museum if you are in the area!

There are small informational signs around the area to let you know more about what you are looking at or you can download the auto tour. The Pueblo building holds pottery, photos, and artifacts. Ghost Town Museum - A Mix of Magic and Misses…read more There's definitely a lot to see here--every nook and cranny is packed with relics from Colorado's early days. It's a cool peek into how folks lived back then, and there's no shortage of vintage eye candy. Some items are clearly marked with "Do Not Touch" signs. One wasn't--so naturally, my curious son gave it a go to see how it worked. A staff member walked by and, instead of gently redirecting, chose to loudly scold him in front of others. It was uncomfortable and felt a little over the top for a kid just being curious. Not exactly a warm, educational moment. We moved on quickly--but not before one of us made sure to gently touch one more thing, for good measure. The shooting gallery was a hit with the kids. Change machines are a surprisingly nice convenience. Gold panning? Fun to try, but we struck out. Informative movie? Worth sitting for. Gift shop? Cool stuff, but brace for sticker shock. All in all, it's worth a stop if you're into Old West history, but a little more grace from staff would go a long way in keeping the experience fun--especially for families.

It is a beautiful example of how people lived in that time period. Not only is the house well preserved, but the grounds and gardens are especially beautiful. In the home there are well preserved treasures that are worth seeing. General tours are adults 7.00 and children are 3.00. Senior Citizens are fairly cheap as well. Originally we didn't have time to stay for a whole tour but the docent gave us a nice taste of what was available. This would be an excellent tour for field trips of small classes. I would call ahead and see what rates are like.
