This is such a lovely state park, it has a polo field atmosphere with beautiful walking trails and a great lush green space for lounging as well. I did a photoshoot here as a model with a photographer and the energy here was amazing! It's peaceful while still attracting small groups and walkers around which is rare to find in LA. I'm happy to hear it's reopened as I would love to come back since my last visit in 2024. read more

Great hike! A bit of an incline at first but I would say easy on the whole. It was a beautiful day and lovely to see where my daughter was proposed to. Inspiration Point is the only trail open right now and the views are spectacular. $3/ hour to park. We were there on. Saturday at 11 and were able to find parking without any difficulty. read more

Came here for this year polo classic and I feel that the state can do a better job of up keep! The public restrooms was closed for the event and the park was infested with bees.. I'm not quite sure why Veuve Cliquot chose this venue for the prices of their tickets ...but I felt the park could of been better or I rather say, not located here for a event that was supposed to be elite and 5-star. Great historical park , Polo Field near Brentwood/ Pacific Palisades/ Rustic Canyon! I've been coming up to this polo field and the trails around here for many years and I still enjoy it every time I come up. It's a super nice area! Great for a day hike. Will Rogers State Historic Park was a unique mix of history and nature. I went with someone and toured the ranch house, walked the trails, and relaxed in grassy areas. Teenagers were taking pictures, learning about the history, and enjoying the open space. The atmosphere is something teens would love because it is calm, interesting, and full of character. The service shows in how well the historical areas and trails are maintained. The value is great because you get both a nature experience and a historical one without spending much. The quality of the environment and buildings is high with everything looking clean and well cared for. The selection of activities including tours, trails, and open fields gives teenagers plenty to enjoy. I have only been once but it felt special. Teenagers would love the history, the nature, and the creative photo spots and I highly recommend it. read more

The state beach parking is easy access to the beach. This park is big with huge long stretches of parking. Once you buy the ticket from the attendant, you keep driving to whatever lot # you want to park at. The rates are cheaper in the morning, then is increased during the day. It can get more busy during the day but even that, it's not a heavy tourist sight to go to which is great for locals to enjoy the beach without the crowd factor. read more

We went on a hike to Inspiration Point at Will Roger's State Park. We wanted to start the hike before 7am, but the parking lot was closed and the sign said it opened at 8am. Luckily a ranger came by and opened the gate at about 7:30am. The parking fee was expensive -$12 per car or $11 for seniors. There is parking down the street, but it is very limited and in the neighborhood, it was only permit parking only. There were two trails to get to the top and the hike was moderate. I came here to 'hike' but really it was just a nice stroll through a lovely park and then lie in the grass. I didn't do the house tour but I have a State Park pass so parking wasn't an issue for me-honestly, just get one if you end up coming here more than once. The park is serene and despite a lot of people around it still felt really calm but it was during the day so that might be different. Moreover, I got to bring my pup there and overall, it was an easy day to take a nice walk then lay in the grass. read more

Parking is $3 per hour or $12 all day. The hike here is pretty nice and is a complete loop. I paid for two hours of parking and had plenty of time to do the 2.2 mile trail. Note we saw a rattlesnake on the side of the trail sleeping so be careful where you step! Plenty of people doing the trail and it's very well paved. read more

Take a day and tourist in your city! Thursday and Friday, 11 am to 3 pm, they give a free tour in the property, just you pay the parking lot. Will Roger State is so beautiful, you will feel outside of Los Angeles. So peaceful! I know tchê Summers they have polo games. I am forwarding to watch o e. Free and bring picnic and dog. I think this trail is definitely at the top of my list so far. It's lined with 100 year old Eucalyptus trees and the views from the trail are beautiful. At Inspiration Point you cannsee views of the Pacific Ocean. The hike itself takes about 40 minutes and loops around, making it a 2.1 mile trail. The trail is steep in some parts but doable and not overwhelming if you aren't in shape. Parking is $12 for the day. They take cash or card. read more

Will rogers may be my favorite park in LA. It is beautiful, and there are lots of things to do on a nice day. The hiking is not too challenging and the view at Inspiration Point is always great. You can picnic, grill, play sports on the field, walk your dogs, etc! They offer tours of the ranch house most days for free. I love coming here to watch polo games, to ride at Jigsaw Farms, or to just relax. Parking is $3 an hour and maxes out at $12, which isn't too bad at all. Had such a great morning here! I really wanted to go for a hike, but not in the Valley heat. I found Will Rogers State Historic park when looking for relatively close and easy hikes not too far from the Valley. Will Rogers was easy to get too and on a Sunday morning, no traffic wee! There is plenty of parking available, but you do have to pay per hour. There is a person on site who collect parking fees. We parked next to the polo field and walked over to the trail head. We started on the "Inspiration Trail" and got a nice uphill workout to start. After that initial hill (I think there may be a more gradual way up if you have a stroller), it was a pretty steady uphill climb around the mountain. It's nice and green and COOL! The trail is mostly in the sun, but the day we were there, there was a nice cool ocean breeze. The trail is dirt, but not very rocky so athletic shoes are great! At the top of the trail is "inspiration point" where you can sit on a bench and enjoy the view of the city and ocean! It was a little gloomy when we went, but still a nice place to sit and enjoy the view. On the way down, we walked through a very shady area lined with trees. It was stunning! We also passed a big grassy area where people were picnicking and lounging in the shade. We also caught a little bit of a polo match. So cool to watch the horses run around! They have a bathroom and waterfall refill station available. Overall I found this to be a really peaceful place and loved the relatively mild hike, while still getting a workout. The hike took us just over an hour and it wasn't too crowded. I am looking forward to coming back! read more

I came here to watch a polo match, which is free. I paid $12 for all day parking. Although they have a mini museum and gift shop and great grounds, I really just watched the match and left. Def something to do at least once or even once a year. Great place to picnic and just hang out. You can also hike here as they have trails. I first hiked Will Rogers State Historic Park back on 9/27/20. Got there just before 2PM to meet a friend. It's a nice park. The women's restroom had a bit of an early Halloween spooky vibe with the resident daddy longlegs chillin' in the corners. The trails could be marked better, but it's not like it's the most difficult area to navigate. You should get decent phone coverage too. Horse riders in the area. In fact, there is an outfit nearby that I don't know much about, but it seems promising for first-time riders. Beautiful area. Parking was easy. Download the "Passport" app to buy a parking pass. The daily rate is $11. It will give you a countdown as to how long you have until the rangers close the gates at around sundown. Definitely a fan. read more

Living history right in our backyard. I never knew of Will Rogers or his legacy before moving to Los Angeles but he was a hero of my parents generation and when they came to visit, were adamant we do the free docent tour of Will Rogers summer home, located in the Pacific Palisades. Will Rogers was a fascinating man of an era long gone. A hero to many, a descendant of the native population he did not even have a birth certificate and little formal education. He was a true showman, incredible horseman and in later life, one of the most generous, philanthropists. Will Rogers lived a rare life where he did an inordinate amount with limited opportunity. His life epitomizes the American dream and is a worthy hero of a generation past. I'm thrilled this wonderful tribute to this man exists and that I was able to learn a bit about his contributions to the world around him. He left a mark during his time here and I do hope you'll take a moment to learn more about him. read more

Will Rogers is a lovely park nestled in Pacific Palisades and a nice escape from the bustling city. Ample paid parking available- we paid $9 for 3 hours. Very green and open spaces for frisbee, polo, and other outdoor activities. My friends and I did the Inspiration Point hike which was a very relaxed hike which was about a 2 mile loop that was a little steep at the beginning. There are many benches throughout the trail that made it easy to take a break. Restrooms and a water bottle refilling station is available near parking. Inspiration Loop Trail: We hiked on a Sunday morning knowing that the area would get busy on the weekend. About a half mile before the entrance to the park we found free street parking, the parking is around $12 for the day. The trail is very popular and easy to moderate level. Will Rogers is one of my favorite places of all time. Hiking trails, which connect to the state park, can take you as near or far as you'd like and difficulty can range from an easy stroll to strenuous. Built on the former home and ranch of actor Will Rogers, the land is now a park, where you can hike, mountain bike, walk dogs, play soccer, sunbathe, play polo and picnic. Trails are wide and very well maintained -- the main trail is navigable with a sturdy stroller, possibly even a wheelchair. There is a clean, well maintained bathroom near the former residence. Hike up to inspiration point, extend your hike by climbing the backbone trail into Temescal. Or climb down into the shade of Rivas Canyon. Lots of spots for picnicking. The lawn in front of the residence is grassy and wide, the perfect spot for little ones. The hike to Inspiration Point and back down is gradual and suitable for kids three and up. I'll get flack for this but if you just want to go on a hike, there's lots of other similar hikes in LA County where you can easily get street parking. Street parking here is all permit only (I believe during certain hours during the week it's not as bad but I don't remember). There was one side going up the hill with non permit spots but all were taken on the Sunday that I went. Looked like it fit 10 cars. Because I didn't know how long I'd be there for and didn't want to keep coming back to my car, I paid $11. Went alone so for 1 person it's a lot for a typical trail in LA. read more

Today was my first time at Will Rogers State Historic Park. What a beautiful park! We took a guided tour of Will Roger's home with Bill. What a gem of a tour guide Bill is! He is knowledgable and I enjoyed hearing the history of the Roger's family, their home and Will Roger's himself. Working our way through the Passport 2 History book, we hit Will Rogers State Park this afternoon. As a bonus, it was Derby Day, with a polo match happening, along with many folks gathered to watch a simulcast of the Kentucky Derby. While across the polo field from the ranch house, visitor center, and other parts of the park, we could hear the dulcet tones of Jim Nance's overview before he turned it over to the track announcer. The event organizers cranked up the volume so that no one missed the reporting on the race. Two muddy minutes later, the favorite was crowned. Just after, our tour of the Rogers home was called. We enjoyed the air conditioned surroundings as a docent filled us in on the history if the home and the movie star status of humorist and humanitarian, Will Rogers. Though he was one of the biggest stars in the world at the time, he didn't live a lavish lifestyle. He entertained friends and luminaries of the era with barbeques and horseback rides. His home and about half of the original property were donated to the State of California by his widow. Parking cost $12, but the tour was free. Donations are accepted, and welcomed. It must be costly to preserve the 10,000 square foot house. After our tour, we walked through the grassy area which once served as a four hole golf course, up to the big, showy barn. Built in 1929, it's a beauty! Not far away, I was tickled to see an old Buick in a side area showcasing old horse-drawn farming tools. That old Buick could / should be restored to her former glory. Poor baby, in her present state! As we left the barn area and strolled back to the parking lot, I took Hubby's hand for an impromptu dance on the driveway. The DJ was still playing at the Derby Day event, with the sound carrying up the valley. Pretending to be a rich visitor of the Rogers was quite satisfying! read more

I came here for a hike at sunrise. I arrived at 6:30 am on a Saturday but I was told by another hiker that the gates don't actually open until 7 am. Parking: There were a Few free open spaces available on the side of the road before you get to the gate. Pay attention to the "no parking signs" though. The rest of the parking is for pay on the inside of the gate (Which you can also pay with an app). Bathrooms: At the parking lot, in front of the main house, before the trails start. Clean! Trail: I did the Inspiration Point loop. Very scenic with views of the ocean and downtown LA. We were able to take our sleeping 1 year old daughter in a jogger stroller. I would say it's a stroller friendly trail if you have a jogger stroller or one that is meant for more rugged terrain. It was a great hike and everyone we encountered was friendly. We enjoyed looking at the antique farm equipment as well as the horses once we were done with the trail. Tours are currently closed due to COVID but the trails and bathrooms are still open. read more

Be inspired to take it higher. I've been to Temescal, Los Liones, Murphy Ranch and others in the area. I never really knew how they all connected but I always appreciated that each trail offered its own difficulty, views, history and charm. On this occasion I was looking for Rustic Canyon Loop trail and once again I found myself everywhere but where I intended to be. I arrived at the trail and found that the parking was $12 or a sign that I believe said $3 per hour. Either use exact cash or make sure you have your card with you. Before heading up the trail I knew to expect beautiful views because the skies were clear and I was already somewhat familiar with other trails in the area. I saw horses from the park as I was heading up. There are certain parts of the trail that are dog friendly but beyond Inspiration Point there are signs posted that warn of Mountain Lions. There are lizards all over the place and I was told that there was a rattlesnake so I was definitely on alert. The grade is a gradual climb to Inspiration Point not too difficult but it checks the box for view. You will be inspired from that point because you'll see the panoramic beauty of downtown LA, Santa Monica, the Palisades, Malibu the ocean and the grounds that make up Will Rogers State Park. It's really beautiful out there. After leaving Inspiration Point I was inspired to go higher so after speaking to another gentleman I finally found a sign that said Rustic Canyon. I've tried to get there on different occasions but I could never find it while using my GPS. Long review short I went up another 2 miles or so. The path is pretty easy to follow and they do a great job of marking the direction so you stay the course. I will definitely return here and make sure I have a fully charged phone and downloaded map so that that I can go deeper into the trail and see things that I haven't from the other trails that are a part of this park. I suggest this to those that want to find themselves getting lost in the view, the history and the challenge of going to different paths. Let Inspiration Point and Will Rodgers (Rogers) land inspire you to continue dreaming and climbing to reach another level in life. read more

Lovely easy hiking trails and nice views from the top and ridge line! If you don't have a pass, parking is $12 per vehicle in this park, but there are plenty of spots in the two lots and there were lots of families here to enjoy a beautiful morning. In front of the ranch house there are large playing fields and then the trails are up behind the house. The incline is steady and there are no obstacles as you ascend. Go in the morning to avoid sunburn - and obviously wear sunscreen! If you want the shortened version of the Inspiration Point trail, take the first right trail split. It will cut the hike in half. It only took about 15-20 min to get to the top going the long way. Coming down we took the shortcut and it was more like 5-10 min to the bottom. A lovely quick hike to get some movement in before a day at the pool or beach! read more

Are unicorns and horses related? Exploration of this topic lead our family to the Will Rogers State Historic Park. After much hands - on research with horses (we got to pet a horse!) we concluded that while they appear to look similar, horses and unicorns are entirely different. Great place to go for a hike. You have several trails to choose from; a short hike to lengthy one. Couple of miles or 60 miles? You choose. Depends on your mood and how much time you have. $12 for parking, which isn't too sense you'll likely spend several hours here. It's worth if so you don't have to drive around looking for parking like at some locations. I'm guessing that my recent hike was nearly 8 miles. It was a hot day, and we got started pretty late. Thankfully the latter part of the trail was down below and along the stream, which was much cooler. There's a polo field near the parking lot. If you're into it, then this is the perfect place for you to watch a match. There are also some picnic tables and BBQ grills for use. I'm guessing you should be able to reserve for use. Beautiful scenery along the trails and up top. A lot of interesting things to see along the way. Loved all the Graffiti (art work) on the old run down houses below. Lots of random things to see. It's very close to the Highway 1. If you have time, definitely grab a nice meal in Pacific Palisades, or head down to Malibu. Endless options for you. read more

I've been to Temescal Canyon and Murphy Ranch hikes in the Palisades area, but even if I knew about Will Rogers State Park, I never got around to visit it. The park is off Sunset, there's a sign that pops up first. Don't be like me and ignore it. We took a right and ended up in a one-lane small residential street, it was a pain to turn the car around, which was misbehaving that day anyway. So wait and take a right into Will Rogers Rd. that will lead you into the park entrance. I noticed some cars parked on the side toward the entrance, but I didn't feel safe parking there. If this is your turf and go there often, it's fine, but I didn't have it in me. So we paid $12 to park into their lot. The park ranger couldn't be nicer, gave us a map, gave us tips and useful info. Plenty of parking, restrooms are close by, so is a water fountain. We checked out the property till it was time to do the house tour. Sat and Sundays they have them hourly from 10 am - 4 pm. Free tours, we had a nice docent, very knowledgeable, learnt a lot about Will Rogers (you have to if you live here, his names pops up all the time), his career as a cowboy, in Hollywood, his family and legacy. I love a few good Hollywood stories, Charlie Chaplin, Marion Davies, Clark Gable used to come this property often back in the day. Howard Hughes even landed his place on the polo filed once!!!! We couldn't take photos inside the property, but every object has a cool story behind, lots of set directors and set construction worked on the house, so there are many cool details and great work to admire. Check it out if you're interested, maybe not being able to post photos from inside might sparkle your interest more, increase the mystery! The tour lasted about 40 minutes, very nice and comprehensive. Afterwards, well, we had many options. There's a polo field, the only one left in LA, and they had a cool event/watching party of the Kentucky Derby. So there was a DJ on the scene, a polo game which was fun to watch, very unique to this property. There are various hikes to take, since it was a first time for us, we took the Inspiration Point Loop, very easy 2 mile, wide trail, beautiful views of the ocean, the beach, the city on the other side.You can see downtown from up there as well. Pleasant hike, nothing challenging about it. It starts on one side of the stables and ends at the other side of them. Check out the stable, too, one of the reasons Will Rogers moved his family here. There are cool old tools and cars on displays and some horses around. You can do other hikes as well, check out the map. Inspiration Point is nice, there are shady spots, some not so much. So bring water and protective lotion. Fellow hikers were super nice here, people came to us to give us advice when they saw us pulling a map out, you can always ask somebody for help, info, directions, everyone is nice, helpful, says "Hi". A major plus for me!!!! There are also picnic tables (another reason for us to park in their lot) so we had a nice picnic while watching the event's festivities and enjoying the tunes. It's a lot to do on this property, you can spend as much or little time as you want. For us, it was nice to spend at least half of day outdoors, doing various fun things. If I'd live on the West side and the parking wouldn't cost as much, I'd come here more often. My parking fee is going to a good cause, I like to support the National Park Service. It's a nice place to come and disconnect, enjoy the nature, engage in some fun activities they have to offer and take in the beautiful views! read more

Went for a ore sunset New Year's Day hike with my pup. Usually do the Temescal canyon hike as my west side preferred hike but decide to explore new territories- FYI this loop is also linked via the main Temescal canyon trail. Went around 4 pm. Saw a bunch of cars lining the side of the road as I approached the drive from sunset. This usually indicates paid parking behind or a full lot. In my case it was paid parking. Per the usual with state park parking lots, free if you have an annual pass and $3/hr and up without. Since the lot and park closes at sunset and winter sunsets being around 5 pm I just paid for an hour. Tip- you can also park along the narrow road lining the polo fields as overflow parking if lot is full- still have to pay. The trail up starts pretty steep but don't let that fool you as it only lasts the first 10 minutes then gently levels out the rest of the way to inspiration point. Great views all around- to the pacific, century city and beyond and the immediate polo fields below. There are several mini trails that go off course as you make your way up. Round trip under an hour. Good chill hike for when you're not looking for something strenuous but need to get some steps in and remind yourself why you live in this beautiful city. read more
