Wines are the stars here. They made my favorite Pinot Noir and the tasting was enjoyable, as the host Philip. We preorder foods and they were excellent: great pairings and satisfying just enough. We reserved an 11am weekday spot and the place was basically ours. The pours were leisurely and explanation interesting and not lecturing. Philip gave us a tour to the grape vines afterward. We really enjoyed our tasting at WillaKenzie. We ordered the Perspective of Place tasting. It was worth the extra cost. We had charcuterie and a private room. The entire estate is beautiful. My only complaint was that I tried to join and somehow that was messed up so we didn't get our discount on the wine we ordered, which I didn't realize until after we arrived home and the wine was delivered. In the end, I decided not to join their club. read more

There is nothing that I value you more than a welcoming and friendly staff to greet you, wonderful wines and a beautiful tasting room and they had everything. Like I actually posted it to my social media, and people were shocked, and compared it to airport charcuterie, price tag and all. ($25)!! One of my favorite vineyards anywhere. When friends visit from out of state, this is where I bring them. When my friends, who are club members, go to pick up wine, I beg them to take me with them! I just love everything about this place. Nestled in the rolling hills with Longhorns roaming freely, the views are spectacular. There is a patio outside and a cozy room inside that has a large bar area and several tables with views. The service is always warm and friendly. The wines are really nice. It's the first place I ever tried a Pinot Rose and fell in love! And that's saying a lot since I usually drink red, the bigger the better. Now I serve Pinot Rose all summer long. If you go, order the cheese platter. One of the nicest anywhere, with several types of cheese, dried fruit, nuts and a baguette that pairs wonderfully with the flights. read more

This winery is the gold standard of estate wineries in the Williamette Valley. They have a true passion for Pinot Cuvees, but also make a great Rose and Pinot Blanc. I happen to be a member here, and they rolled out the welcome and set my group up in a private room with a great view. Passion for Pinot with a sense of place. My friend and I appreciated the appropriate signage directing visitors to the tasting room. Perched on a hill, views from the tasting room are stunning and overlook the vineyards on the hillside. The tasting room itself is impressive: spacious and clean; hardwood floors and high ceiling. Seating available on the patio and outdoor areas. NOTES: Tasting fee = $20; The tasting is comprised primarily of pinot noir and at least 1 white wine. SERVICE: Outstanding. Terrific even. Mary was so cheerful and friendly, and kept the 3 of us constantly engaged in conversation. We shared with her where we were from, and in turn she asked what places/attractions we had visited while in Portland. She provided great customer service and WillaKenzie is very fortunate to have her on staff. Since the tasting fee us refundable with the purchase of 2 bottles, we ended up leaving with 1 bottle each of the Gamay Noir and the Pinot Noir Emery. We loved the guy that helped us through the wine flight. Unfortunately Karen "the mask police" was not having any missing masks for even 30 seconds. She told us "im not going to warn you again" although we had about 30 seconds of missing masks from one party in a setting of 6. We made a reservation because we had a larger party and when we arrived they were very warm and accommodating. They had a table indoors ready for us but we brought lunch so they set us up by the fire pit and gave us blankets to stay warm. After we ate we made our way indoors and they helped move everything in. Our hostess was knowledgeable and friendly. The estate is beautiful and has always been one of our favorites. We loved the wines at this vineyard. Gracing the walls at this tasting room were many honorary letters from the White House, spanning a few decades, noting exactly which wine was served at which dinner. WillaKenzie was named after the soil and not somebody. The wines we tasted were all really good, and had a hard time deciding which bottle to take back with us. We had: 2007 Pinot Blanc 2007 Pinot Gris 2006 Pinot Meunier 2006 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2006 Pinot Noir Thibaud's Cuvee 2005 Pinot Noir Aliette Tasting fee was only $5 and is refundable with wine purchase. The tasting menu and description cards were helpful in explaining what flavors to expect. Elke was very friendly and gave good advice as well. We bought a bottle of the 2006 Pinot Meunier. Overall this was an excellent wine tasting experience. There is a little patio outside where you could sit and enjoy your wine. On site is also where they make the wine. Pretty interesting stuff. Pretty much everything about Willakenzie is beautiful. The tasting room, the setting, the wines... they all got it going on. From the moment you drive up the hill into the estate you're transported into the idyllic Oregon Wine Country spread. Vines line the approach on both sides and surround a set of high-end buildings that house the winery, crush dock, tasting room and offices. It's a pretty gorgeous place to drink some wines... ...which are just as sexy as the surroundings. The pinots that Willakenzie's French winemaker puts out are soft and luscious. From the Estate Cuveé all the way up through the Aliette and Pierre Leon, they're all good. They also make some interesting smaller-batch stuff like Pinot Meunier (not often found in the US), a couple of whites and some Gamay Noir. My favorites are the Pierre Leon, the Pinot Meunier (I scored the last two bottles of the Meunier on my last visit) and the Jory Hills. The tasting experience here is quality. They have one tasting room person that is somewhat droll but the rest of the staff is great. The fee matches the quality of wines you're drinking but a purchase (which is well worth it) chops that off right quick. To me, if you're actually buying at retail you shouldn't have to pay a tasting fee (especially multiple bottles), so Willakenzie gets it right where others in the valley fail. If you have time, snag a bottle or linger over your taster set with a cheese plate out on the balcony at a table overlooking the vines. Regardless of when you visit, the view is pretty stellar. I've seen it at the height of summer and covered in a layer of snow. Both seasons make for some vine vistas. This winery may be a bit off the regular 99W path, but the pastoral drive out and the great wines make it worth the detour. Good stuff. read more

Another great winery in the Yamhill county. While planning out my weekend in Portland, I got a lot of winery suggestions from locals and Willakenzie seemed to be a local favorite among many. Willakenzie Estate is farther out than most other wineries but that doesn't seem to stop anyone from visiting and trying their selection of wines. When we came on an early Saturday afternoon, a group of 10-15 were there just finishing up a winery tour, and there were also 4-5 other small groups. The winery is relatively small in terms of facility space, but is surrounded by fields and fields of grape vines. For the wine tasting, we had around 6-7 different wines, each with a comprehensive sheet of information. The sheets proved to be helpful since the Willakenzie folks couldn't spend much time explaining everything as they were busy serving everyone else in the room. Right outside the tasting room is an outdoor patio which is another perfect area for sharing a bottle of wine or just have lunch and catching up on life. Perfect setting for a sunny summer afternoon. read more

Loved loved loved my visit to Willakenzie. They offer a wide range of wines (Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and a range of wonderful Pinot Noirs). We tasted the Pinot Blanc (very nice), Chardonnay (unoaked and super tasty), Pinot Gris (not a huge fan) and a range of Pinot Noirs that got better as the price went up. We ended up walking out with 4 bottles and drank one out on their lovely patio overlooking a panoramic view of their vineyards. What an amazing way to spend a Sunday afternoon, "off the beaten path" far enough to be quiet and serene, but not inconveniently so. Ample parking close in but out of sight, a bright, open and airy tasting room with a "view" balcony. The tasting menus were well thought out, as was the charcuterie plate. The staff was friendly, attentive and most informative in regard to the winery itself and literally the "lay of the land". The pace was unhurried but well-timed and service was prompt. A couple of hours plus a bit more passed very quickly and pleasantly. The wines sampled were all wonderful, each with an individual character yet retaining a "family resemblance". As a frequent visitor to wineries starting in the Napa Valley in the mid-70s, to living near the Amador County wine country in California for 15 years, and exploring Oregon and Washington wineries for 15 more, I would be hard-pressed to remember a better overall experience. WillaKenzie gets a solid 4 stars. The winery is beautiful, the service is good, and the wines are really nice. They are really pricey, IMO, when there are better wines that don't cost as much, but each vineyard has their own reasons for their pricing structure. We really enjoyed the tasting at WKE and I would love going back. We took home a few bottles, because they were delish. I couldn't see becoming a wine club member there, as it isn't super laid back, its a bit more posh and a bit more uptight than I like to hang out at. But the wine is good. So for that alone, visit it, enjoy it, and write your own review. Because all of us are entitled to our opinions and we should all contribute to keep the Yelposphere spinning :) read more

Made an appointment at WillaKenzie for a solo wine tasting and was not disappointed. It can be easy to visit wineries alone and get lost in the business of crowds. The team here did such a great job of making sure I got equal attention as the other groups. The employees were so friendly, knowledgeable and kind. The little dish of hazelnuts were so yummy! WillaKenzie's motto is "Dirt Matters. Clones Matter. People Matter." WillaKenzie was started in 1992 by Bernard Lacroute who made his name and fortune with Sun Microsystems. Named after the Willakenzie sedimentary soil the estate is nestled in the rolling hills of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. The Willakenzie soil is ideal of grown Pinot Noirs. (Dirt Matters.) I haven't been to many wineries that offer single Dijon clones for sale; my favorite being the Dijon Clone 777. By taking their different clones and blending them into several types of wine, you could buy a bottle to drink today, and another bottle to cellar and enjoy years down. Or taste several clones and discover the foundations of a great Pinot Noir. (Clones Matter.) Their 420-acre vineyard is beautiful. They take pride in their wines and location; it comes out whenever you talk to their staff. They're knowledgeable, friendly and inviting - I don't see some of the staff when I originally joined but I would like to personally thank Jennifer because she always make my visits terribly awesome. We are big Pinot Noir fans and these are some of our favorites. We enjoy going out for tastes and order their charcuterie platter while enjoying the grounds on their patio. What a exquisite backdrop! The sun was shining on us as we entered this beautiful winery for a tasting. ( metaphorically and literally) the knowledable gal behind the counter explained the history of the vineyard and with each tasting she showed on the map where the grapes had been harvested and explained how it affected the wines notes and flavors... It had a great story & history and many of the wines are named after family members of the past and present. My favorite was the 2009 Pinot Noir Emery , it's described as a darker ruby red shade than the Kiana ( which was also amazing ) it offers a silky, black fruit along with the cassis , dusty rose and Graham crackers . Not sure if Graham crackers came to mind but, it was a beautiful , smooth , light bodied , aromatic blend that I am saving for a special occasion. If in the Yamhill area.. On this, my initial foray into the Oregon wine country, one particular treat was making a stop at WillaKenzie Estate. First of all, there's an almost stupefying amount of gorgeous going down here, and from the rolling vineyards beyond to the panoramic windows that beg the fields outside (backed by forest), they're serving up an experience to be savored. I dropped in on an early afternoon for a taste or five. Seems that this area is ripe for pinot noirs, and there are an assortment of them at the ready at WillaKenzie: I walked with a bottle of the Pinot Noir Estate Cuvée that went down smooth. There's a small fee for tasting which they waive if you grab a bottle to go, and I was only too happy to comply. The Pinot Aliette was easy on the pallete, but in the interest of my luggage, I tempered my purchases to favor the bouncing around we'd do later. To call this winery time well spent isn't revelatory: to spend an afternoon here very well might be. Bottoms up. read more

This wine was featured on a wine shop's FB site and since we were planning a trip to Willamette we added it to our itinerary and we are so glad we did! Each pinot was better than the previous one. They will waive the tasting fee with a minimum purchase. The beautiful views make you want to grab a glass of pinot and spend time on the outdoor patio. I never thought of myself as a joiner, much less a "wine club" kind of person. I didn't even think I KNEW "wine club" kinds of persons. But one visit to Willakenzie and I'm thinking: maybe... should I? Join a wine club? Here's what's great about a visit to this vineyard: 1) Beautiful, beautiful location. It's worth a trip just to soak in the pretty. 2) If you go for a tasting, chances are the people pouring are volunteers who are doing it in exchange for free wine. Genius and free marketing right there. 3 & 4 & 5) The people are nice! And full of information! The wine is great! Maybe because the people are nice and well-informed? Maybe because (6) the food pairings are spot on? 7) The tasting I attended started us out on the crushing floor and toured us through the process. You could ask any question (like: "what's that thingy do?") and someone would be happy to answer it and point you to an example of a wine that resulted from that process. 8) The experience seriously makes you consider the idea that with a purchase of only one bottle of wine per month that gets mailed to your door, you could be in this cool club, where you get to attend parties at this super pretty estate, with people who seem genuinely nice, and maybe you ARE a wine club kind of person after all! Given space from the place, and maybe a month or so to mull it over, instead of purchasing the membership, I'm currently trying to get my wealthier more regular wine-drinking friends to join instead of me. And take me as one of their 3 guests to the parties. But that did not stop me from purchasing 3 bottles on the day of the tasting, and feeling 100% confident in that choice. Willakenzie, you make a strong argument. Give me a couple of years and a little more flexible disposable income, and I'll be yours for life. read more

Fast forward 4 years from my last review and if I could give WK 6 stars I would :) Bernie, Ronnie, Thibeaud, Mike, Sherry, Dominique, and the rest of the crew are making some of the best Oregon Pinot in the world, all at prices that won't break the bank. Speaking of '09. I just opened an '09 Pierre Leone and it was superb. I also just had a 2002 Triple Black Slopes last month and it was amazing. The people who work here are the nicest around, and while WK probably doesn't fit into my "small winery" list anymore, they are still one of my all time favorites and I love being a member of the cellar club. If you're going to join just one cellar club, make it this one. There are 4 or 5 members only events each year and each one is amazing. read more

What a beautiful winery! I went with some friends for a day of wine tasting and this was our last stop. The service was great, they were with us right away. We sat inside the tasting room because all the tables on their balcony were taken. But, we did get a chance to step outside and WOW what a nice view! WillaKenzie offers a stunning view, superb pinots, friendly folks in the tasting room and affordable wines, blah blah blah. Wait! Go back to that last one! Affordable, delicious pinots? It's true! I couldn't pick a favorite wine while I was there, but I was a big fan of the Aliette and Thibaud's Cuvee. It's the perfect place to bring a group with plenty of seating indoors and out. The $20 tasting fee is refundable with a two bottle purchase and I dare you to leave here with less than two bottles after tasting. The wine club is also a great value compared to others in the area and once the affable Mary poured us some of that delicious drink she knew she had us. Looking forward to their member events and I can't wait until it's time to open our cellar club bottles! We have loved WillaKenzie's wines for sometime and I'm so glad I'll be returning on a regular basis. Pack a picnic to enjoy that lovely view and go check it out for yourself! read more

Arrived by bike on a whipping wet wintry January day. The staff were friendly to us, the wines were complex and flavorful, the flight was spendy at $15 (unless you bought something)--but re-pours and pours of wines not in the flight list were offered, so staff weren't being stingy. The feel is extremely professional and worldly--not a bad thing, but something to be aware of if (like Garrett below) you're looking for a folksy Oregon style place. Come on--they serve this stuff for the POTUFS (f standing for you-know-what). I'm from California, so I'm allowed to say this: it feels very California. read more
