A stellar experience all around! The grounds are beautifu with vineyards all around and sheep doing their job, grazing on the grass. The tasting room is modern, very clean lines and lots of space and windows so you can continue appreciating the beauty all around you even if you are inside. On warmer days, the large deck is the perfect place to sip the day away! But we are all here for the wine, and with Lynn Penney-Ash as the winemaker, you know the Pinots are going to be fabulous. The founder, Dr. Madiah Revana, has also acquired properties in Napa and Argentina, yes, Argentina, for their soil variety and climate. So if you are a fan of the bigger, bolder reds like me, you will have plenty of options. We were hosted by Michael who was personable, engaging, and full of interesting facts. I've been to a hundred+ wine tastings, easily, so learning something new was both surprising and appreciated. Our table was set for us with the appropriate wine glasses and a menu welcoming our party by name, always a classy touch. The first glass, their Signature Chardonnay (2023), was delicious! Not heavy on oak or that California buttery taste, it was light and crisp, very pleasing, very drinkable. We moved onto Pinots, a variety they are known for, and it was easy to see why. Then moved on to some bigger CA reds. On Michael's recommendation, we ordered a pizza which was very tasty and went well with the wine. We ended up purchasing several bottles, not out of pressure, but because we absolutely loved their wine. There are close to 900 wineries in Willamette Valley, and growing, we are always looking to try new places to experience which is how we ended up at Alexana. In our group, we are all members of several, yet we were all tempted to join this winery because they are a stand out in all of the ways that matter. Alexana is a beautiful winery with stunning views and truly great service. Everyone is so kind, the large windows that open are beautiful, the space outside is so comfortable, the space inside is nice as well, clearly a wonderful job setting this up. The food also is really great, the Pepita dip is so flavorful and fresh, with veggies to help you feel healthy while drinking wine, can't go wrong there. The wines however are just okay to good. There are a few older pinots that are really good, there's the malbec and cab from their sister wineries that's also really good, and then there's a good number of just okay wines. I'm not upset about it, but I just don't think this has the power of some of the wineries out there! read more

THE BIG: Beautiful winery located in Newberg inside the Dundee Hills of Willamette Valley. Lots of vineyards and a nice spacious indoor/outdoor tasting room area. Plenty of parking in the lot. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here super early (~10am) to see if we could grab a tasting. We didn't have a reservation but when we came, the place was packed. Apparently there was a reservation at opening and we weren't able to get a tasting because the pourers were helping that large group. I instead ordered a glass of the reisling which was a nice off dry wine and had a nose of gasoline. It was a nice start of the day of wine drinking. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Ultimately I only spent around $15 for a glass of Reisling, and it was delicious! I definitely want to come back and try a full tasting whenever I'm back in Willamette. read more

We had high expectations for Alexana and everything was better than we could have hoped for! We had a 10am reservation and got there a bit early so we took a walk around the property-we got a peek at their bottling/labeling process and it was so cool! We were hosted by Michael and after sitting with him for two hours I know SO MUCH about Alexana's wines, grapes, orchards, soil and the bottling process (he took us down to see it up close, along with a visit to see grapes) We also chatted with Drew, who is the Director of Vinoculture, and learned more from him! Bottom line is that Alexana is great and we'd absolutely go back! We had two tastings and bought four bottles; the view and the tasting areas are beautiful. Highly recommend! read more

Thank you Alexana Winery! Our tasting at Alexana was extraordinary. It was the highlight of our annivesary trip to Oregon. Jeff the General Manager and the entire team made us feel genuinely cared for. Mike, our somm's knowledge of the wines, vineyards, vintages and soils was staggering and enhanced our enjoyment of the wines multifold. He didn't just pour wines- he told the story of Alexana one glass at a time. Each pour built beautifully on the last, yet each wine shined on its own. First official wine tasting for us on our Willamette Vacation and by far the best winery experience we had the entire trip. We were the first tasting of the day at 10:30 am and were greeted on arrival with a splash of rose before being seated at a table on the patio overlooking the vineyards. Our tasting menu was customized with our names on it. This being our first trip to the area (and having reserved quite a few tastings around, all being around $30-60 a tasting), I thought, oh this is what we'll expect at each winery....but I was wrong. We got the BEST treatment and education and just all around experience here with Erik. He spent so much time with us (over 2 hours) not only expounding on their wines and vineyards and weather and soils, etc but also explaining why the Pinots would be different even at other regions and wineries that we would visit based on their terroir also. He was so engaged and knowledgeable and so easy to talk to, by the end of the tasting we were hugging and exchanging addresses lol. He even brought us some cheese and dried cherries as we totally missed lunch since we did not want to leave this place. Also, they have pigs! So fun to watch them come up from the valley and wander around...they are natural groundskeepers in the vineyards. I knew nothing about Alexana when making this reservation...it was just "in the area" of some more well known spots....but Erik and Alexana really ruined any other winery for us from the get go...highly HIGHLY recommend. read more

I really do enjoy their wines, and the way the space is set up. It's been remodeled since I was there before, but service is excellent (get reservations). They were also happy to customize our charcuterie plates (cheese on one plate for the vegetarians), meat on the other for the carnivores. With wine club members they also print a personalized menu for your tasting that day - it's such a nice touch. They are also part of a larger corporation of wineries, so they have some other vineyards (in CA I think) where you can purchase hard-to-find wines! read more

Our trip to the Willamette Valley could not have gone any better (unless it was longer). The Willamette Valley is known for their Pinot Noir. Alexana Winery was our first stop and turned out to be one of our absolute favorite wineries. We had a tour of the winery along with our own private tasting. The staff at Alexana was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. The tours are given by appointment only. Alexana Winery has natural and yet very complex soils. One thing that makes them very unique is they have eighteen different soil types on their property. My understanding is not many (if any) other wineries in the valley have that wide of a variety of soils. I do not know all of the proper terms to tell you if they are "balanced" or "fruity" etc. I can tell you they were some of the absolute best that we tasted in the entire valley. The views from their porch are equally amazing. Thank you, Alexana family, for your hospitality. You were amazing. TIP: The Alexana Winery is part of the Revana Vineyard (Napa) and Corazon Del Sol (Mendoza, Argentina) family. Bottom line - An amazing staff with amazing knowledge of the area. The entire gestalt; the setting, the architecture, the wines, the hosting by Braxton were superlative and created an ideal wine tasting moment. We were made to feel special at Alexana, and the welcome made us the stars. Other wineries are sometimes arrogant, almost making their tasting a privilege. Alexana felt privileged to host you. The wines were universally sensational, the 2013s and the 2008 Shea Vineyard reds forcing me to sigh with pleasure. Signature Chardonnay's from 2017 put smiles on our faces, bold with multiple layers, the oak used with a deft touch. Braxton charmed and educated us. Such an incredible experience! We had made reservations and were placed in a private room that was set up for our experience. The tasting included 5 wines that were all incredible. The views were absolutely stunning, and could look at them all day. We had a fantastic guide and walked us through every wine and explained the process. At one point he pointed to a section of the vineyard and stated that this was where the wine we were currently drinking was from. Could not have been happier. We visited this winery with Tesla Custom Wine tours and learned all about this unique winery with 18 of the 22 soil types making a great variety of interesting wines. It was a great way to start our tour of the valley and sipping wine on their deck overlooking their gorgeous property definitely din not suck. While the wines weren't my favorite of the day, their product is first rate. As they also own wineries in Napa and Argentina, it may be possible to taste some wines from outside of the region. In addition to the typical Chardonnay and pinots, the also make an off dry Riesling that was quite good that we sipped while learning about the soil and vineyards. read more

From the moment you step in, they greet you with a glass of wine and take you on a small tour of the space, giving you the history of the vineyard in an informative yet concise way. The wines are delicious, the charcuterie plate was varied and plentiful, and our server for was fun and informative without being intrusive or verbose. You know places that are special and feel so relatively undiscovered that you are torn between wanting to keep it your secret and telling everyone? This is one of those places. Owned by a California physician who also owns the eponymous Revana Winery in that state, Alexana is named after his daughter and was established in 2005. Alexana's wine tasting room used to be in Carlton, but the owner recently closed the tasting space there. As of about mid April, the Newberg tasting room built at the 80 acre Revana vineyard site is open all week for tasting in this pretty location. Alexana was on our list to seek out during a recent visit to the wine country because we heard... ...Lynn Penner-Ash was the winemaker and we are fans of the wines she produces under the Penner-Ash label, and ... Alexana is bottling Riesling, our favorite white varietal and perhaps the most food friendly white wine of all. BOTTOM LINE This small winery's relatively new tasting room was among our top four favorite wineries visited during a recent three day tasting tour in the Dundee Hills. Good wine, knowledgeable and delightfully friendly tasting hostess, welcoming tasting room with spaces both inside and out to sit and linger if you want to do that. We highly recommend a stop here. TASTING ROOM Our visit to the tasting room really started with a visit to Alexana's web page which opens with a photo homage (take a look a the link below) to the soil types of the Willamette Valley. We love wineries that reinforce that at the heart of the craft of wine making, this is about the land where grapes are grown. http://www.alexanawinery.com/ The terroir theme is echoed in the tasting bar which has layers of soil behind a plexi display. Very cool. As is the rest of the tasting room for crisp, contemporary design that is also inviting and includes a fireplace on one wall and a large gathering table. There is also an outside deck that will have chairs for seating in nice weather. TASTING SET UP / WINES and FEE There were two tasting options on the day we visited and both had fees. A basic flight of tasting was available that included Pinot Gris, Reisling and two Pinot Noir. A additional tasting was available for an additional charge ($7) for (two?) reserve Pinot Noir pours. We were using the Dundee Hills Winegrowers Passport that was available in April (a tip...if this offered next year, it's a fun deal) so the basic tasting fee was waived for us. We purchased the reserve tasting as well. I can't recall whether the fee was refunded with our purchase (a couple of bottles of Riesling) or not. It is fantabulous to see the Riesling varietal getting attention from top quality wine makers like this and to taste how many different approaches there are to crafting Riesling in the Willamette Valley. Don't miss out on tasting this one which is bone dry and steely crisp. Prices are mid range for the Willamette Valley, running about $26 (Pinot Gris) to $28 (Riesling) to $40 (Revana Vineyards Pinot Noir). THIS N THAT 1) Accessibility - Beautifully universally accessible design layout. One space of paved fully van accessible parking is in the gravel lot. (More of the lot to be paved in the future we're told.) Close to the door, the paved parking spot also has a paved walkway to the building which is level in and all on one level. Bathrooms are accessible. 2) New Hours - Yelp header page here shows Mon and Fri-Sun tasting hours. But the new hours are now seven days a week 11a - 5p per the hostess and web site. 3) More Riesling - If you're encouraged by the good wine here to try other Riesling in the Willamette Valley, check out Penner-Ash, Chehalem, Tristatum, Stoller, and Hyland to see what they're doing too! This was our first stop during our day in Dundee, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate a winery opening up at 10am. I like to start early! There is still construction going on around the property, but the tasting room was comfortable and provided a lovely view. Our host was great. We had so much fun chatting with him. I loved hearing about the owner too When my friend and I decided we both wanted to take home a bottle of pinot gris, he mentioned that if we bought 6, we wouldn't be paying too much more than just the two because the tasting fees were waived and there was a quantity discount. Basically should stay away from this property unless come at night to clean it The worst person that can work in tourist place , grumpy and angry in the word , plus ordering the lady behind the front desk to move the ladies that joined us for conversation to lower level under pretext of giving them tour . I have been around the world and rarely I see person with such a bad energy and attitude , the owner should really remove him to management positions and keep him away from tourists . If you're someone that appreciates good Pinot Noirs & want one of the best vineyards that the Valley offers, then you must stop at Alexana! The tasting room at Alexana is very clean and has a NW contemporary style feel. The views here are stunning with rolling hills of grape vines. In addition, there's a huge window where you can see the stainless tanks of wine being held. Our wine host was Fabio, who was extremely personable and knowledgeable about wine. He gave us his full attention even though it started to get crowded. He explained each wine in detail, about which clone it came from and area from the valley it was grown. In addition, he was very happy to let us revisit wines that we were interested in. I believe we had 7 tastings total ($20 Tasting Fee pp). 1 Riesling, 1 Chardonnay and 5 Pinot Noirs. While the whites were ok, the stand outs were their Pinots. The quality of Pinots that Alexana produces is top notch. In addition, their prices are a little higher, but are most definitely worth the price. When a wine is excellent, I don't mind paying a pretty penny for it. Our groups personal favorites were the 2010 Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir ($105 bottle), 2014 Zena Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir ($65) and the 2014 Single Clone Pommard Pinot Noir ($75). Each wine was unique in its own sense, but were all equally stunning in quality and taste. The 2010 Shea Vineyard was an orgasm in your mouth. When we all drank it, we all were like "Damnnnnn!" It was that good! We walked out with 7 bottles and smiles on our faces. The overall experience with Fabio, the beautiful scenery and excellent Pinot Noirs made Alexana the most memorable of our trip to Willamette Valley.
