My daughter wanted to celebrate turning 16 by snowboarding with her friends. I initially called a very popular ski resort in Massachusetts. Their website boasted of offering accommodations for small groups of 15. When I called, I was told that our group was too small for a group rate and even if I had extra attendees because the weekend we chose was a holiday weekend, a group rate would not be available. I then called a popular ski resort in the Catskills, who were less helpful than the resort in Massachusetts. I finally called Willard. The lady I spoke with walked me through the entire registration process for my party. When we arrived, we found very helpful and friendly staff. One staff member even helped me convince my daughter's very reluctant dad to try snowboarding. The staff distributing the rental equipment were equally pleasant and helpful. The snowboarding instructors went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a great time. They quickly individualized lessons according to how quickly our snowboarders grasped concepts. My group left the mountain, with the hope of returning! Thank you staff of Willard for an amazing time and making my daughter's 16th birthday memorable. read more

If you are looking for a beginner mountain this is it! Definitely off the beaten path and more old school/no frills, but one of the best deals to learn at. Me and my boyfriend tried to learn to snowboard here. $55 each for 3 lessons and our rental equipment. Can't beat that price at all. Lift tickets are reasonably priced too. The staff was beyond kind! Everyone one we ran into was nice and helpful. There was a huge group there and they even offered us to find another instructor to help us learn more in the lessons. This reminds me of a lot of small mountains I used to ski in the East back in the '80s (before I was, uh, born... Cough). The people who work there are very friendly and helpful, and all seem to enjoy their jobs. The lady at the front desk is still getting the hang of the point of sale system, but she more than makes up for it with sweetness. The ski instructors are excellent and they seem to really like teaching kids. The lift lines moved very quickly, even after a big snowfall on a weekend when traffic was high. The slopes themselves are not the most challenging and you can ski every trail in an afternoon, but for a short one or two day outing, with good conditions, this is a very fun place to take a family trip, especially with young kids who are just learning to ski or snowboard. read more

Excellent starter mountain for kids or adults. Beautiful views, typically not crowded, great price, and lights for night skiing. Very much an off the beaten path place, which is what makes it so unique and special. Love grabbing a beer and a warm bowl of chilly in the lodge when finished skiing for the night. read more

We went snow tubing after a series of very cold weather. The artificial snow seemed to have gotten very hard and slippery causing tubing down the hill to be much faster than expected. read more

Staff and ski instructors are amazing. I started skiing on January 1 for the first time as an adult learner, and by the beginning of February I was doing black diamonds. Professional ski instructors, family friendly mountain, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and well groomed trails. It is a great place to learn to ski or visit with trails for every level of skier. The ski shop is amazing too and has unbeatable prices. I bought my boots, skis, poles, gloves and helmet there and was very impressed with the knowledge and attentive service I received. Highly recommend for anyone learning to ski at all ages. Everyone that works there is incredibly friendly and makes you feel like family. It also has a very nice bar and lounge to stop in after a day on the mountain. Cannot say enough great things about this place!!! read more

I went tubing here with a big group last week and it was so much fun. The staff was nice and really friendly, and we were shooting down the mountain at 30-40 mph!, It was great, and there is a cute little concession stand right there with yummy treats and good hot cocoa. The Willard staff and facility exceeded our first time visit expectations. True, it's not a Killington, Gore, Okemo or Whiteface. Simply a small, reasonably priced place for families to come and have fun. By the way, their pulled pork sandwich is "Washington County's Best Kept Secret!" We'll return. read more

I enjoyed my first visit to Willard; it's not in a direction I usually travel, but I did get there in December. A small mountain, and there had been a shortage of snow that week. However, a friendly staff and warm, little lodge made things enjoyable. Moreover, I was not able to get there until later in the afternoon, and they were kind and discounted the lift ticket. (If I had gone to Jiminy Peak, I think they would have charged me double for being late! Okay; I'm being a bit facetious, but it's easy to distinguish a family-type ski area from an area that has clearly forgotten its roots and put profit as the top priority) read more

Willard is one big hill... not really a mountain. As you are driving up to it, you won't even know its there. Its charming for what it is, but its not the right place for everybody. The best thing about this place is probably the snow tubing. I'm a 34 year old male snowboarder... i didn't expect to have fun tubing. I was wrong. It is an effortless good time where you will get up to 30mph or so. Its great fun for the entire family and for $20, the price is right. I expected Willard would be great for teaching a friend who was learning how to snowboard. I was wrong. The only green trail from the top of the mountain is a nightmare for beginner snowboarders. It is narrow for the first 75 yards, then you turn right, gain a little speed and go into a flat for 100 yards with an INCLINE at the end of it... if you arent carrying speed, you will need to get out of your bindings and walk. After that, it puts you out on the main hill where everything is fine... but its just not acceptable for a snowboarder who isnt already confident linking turns and straightlining. So that leaves the pully lift on the right of the mountain. It works, but it is a lot of effort for not a lot of learning space. Both green runs were designed for skiiers. The conditions on 2/17/2013 were really icy on the learning area, despite fresh snow being made 50 yards to the left... it was a shame. Overall, i'd recommend this mountain for locals who have intermediate+ skills as the main black in the front is actually pretty steep. The trails on the left side of the mountain are narrow, but look fun if the conditions are good. What is simply amazing is the price tag. 4 hours of skiing for $32. After some powder falls, this place would be a lot of fun at 9am for not a lot of money. read more
