I went to WPU in 2008 for a medical assistant course that the Workforce Development gave me a grant for. I learned about cyber security and how colleges are scams. The first thing they asked me for was my e mail address. Why? They never sent me any e mails. They need this to break into your computer. If you ask them for there e mail address you will just get the sounds of silence. They followed me around for years before I learned how to stop them. You need a VPN (virtual private network) on your cell phone. I would strongly advise anyone to think twice before you make a BIG mistake going to "college". These people are detrimental to society. P.S. My Workforce development counselor was fired. The shut down the Clifton NJ office. Ouch! People that work for the government are psycho neurotic. read more

As a first-generation, Black, gender non-conforming student at William Paterson University, my experience has been nothing short of transformational. WPU not only supported my academic journey--allowing me to graduate with a 3.6 GPA and honors--but also helped me grow as a leader, an advocate, and a whole person. Serving as the Student Government Association's Vice President of Judicial Review and as the student representative on the HESSA Advisory Board gave me meaningful opportunities to shape campus policies and uplift student voices. These roles taught me responsibility, collaboration, and the importance of creating spaces where all students feel seen and heard. First time I even rated a university. Didn't think I would but I want to have people use their tuition money somewhere else and don't waste it building your student loans up. The science (biology) department specifically needs a clean house on their professors. If you do choose to look past this review and go apply. Do not take Onaivi or Slaymaker. If you want to fail and or have no help, stay away. In biology with one professor we learned racism is bad (not relevant to biology at all) & in the other , we learned that the study guides are not like the exams. Academic professor is also no help. The schools rating is a 3.8 which is horrible & the reviews speak for themselves. I had to retake a class & this review is not because I'm bitter about having to retake the class ( obtained a C- when a C was needed) but it's because the professors really don't care about their students. I ended up putting my money to take my other prerequisites at my community college. Oh also forgot to mention that I needed to drop a class due to a family emergency to help my grandmother & I missed the deadline for the dropping by 1 day. I provided not one but TWO doctors note which is what the school wanted with the reasons; it was denied. I appealed it. Denied. I could not believe that with 2 doctors granting me acceptance that it was mentally necessary to drop the class and it still wasn't enough! Crazy! You've been warned. read more

Appearance wise this place looks much better than when I went to school here but I also feel like it shrunk the choices for dining (nothing in the commons area was open and there seems like limited options when it is open.) and the main dining hall (nicknamed "Wayne stall" hahaha when I was there) seems like there's a lot of choices but struggled to accommodate 250 high school students at the campus for a conference (my students loved the food, but waited a long time for it). Campus was clean and I felt safe but this school is also surrounded by a rough area so be cautious of your surroundings. read more

2 Stars because the sculpting and art history teachers were very knowledgeable and helpful in their classes. One adjunct professor in particular went above and beyond, and tried to help me out with getting an internship in my field, which I will always appreciate. The school itself was fine, but could benefit from more parking areas so students don't have to park abysmally far from the campus as a whole. Also, as a transfer student, it felt like I had to figure out stuff myself rather than being contacted by an advisor or anything like that. I initially chose a "Bachelor's of Arts" degree thinking that's what I needed for Graphic Design. I was never advised or informed by my advisor about changing to a BFA and only learned the "Bachelor's of Fine Art's" degree tends to look better on a resume for Graphic Design. I was informed of this randomly, towards the end of my 3rd semester by a teacher when I was talking to him about what field I was studying. Thankfully, BA and BFA didn't matter that much in the long run for me, but it would have been nice to know this sooner. Also, as far as I'm aware, the career advisement center is a bit of a joke, depending on your field. The most they did for me is tell me to update my resume (obvious) and recommended that I get in touch with recruitment companies like Robert Half (which is a joke itself) read more

I went here for a certificate program, and it could have been better. I finished the certificate program and needed letters of recommendation, but many of the professors were too busy to give out letters of recommendation to former students. I was disgusted that many students are left to "bite the dust" so to speak after they graduate or finish their program. They only allow you to go to the career center a year after graduation, and this was something that I was not told until after I was laid off two years after finishing my certificate program and needed help. They don't do enough for their alumni who paid so much money while attending and cannot get resume help for future jobs as alumni. One of the advantages of being an alumni is that you can take out books from the library. In hindsight, I regret coming to this school because it was a waste of time. The professors don't care about you, and I am not sure if many of them are adjunct faculty. In my program, many of the professors were full time, either tenure track or not. I still wish there was a better support system for alumni after they graduate the school. read more

I am a remote student and upon application and enrollment, I was advised that I would be able to visit campus with a mask if I am not vaccinated against COVID-19. After enrolling in my classes and paying up front for my semester, it was brought to my attention that I am not allowed on campus whatsoever due to COVID-19 vaccination status. This topic remained a grey area for multiple personnel and departments I inquired with including enrollment specialists and student advisers until it was confirmed that I cannot visit campus even for class-related necessities like studying or using on-campus tools and resources. I specifically chose William Paterson University because of the proximity of its campus even though I intended to be remote, in case I needed or wanted to visit. Otherwise, I would have just chosen some out-of-state University that had better reviews, programs and prices. read more

I attended WPU in the Fall of 2012. I have to say I regret ever going. The University took away my financial aid in October and I couldn't get anybody to explain to me why this happened. Thus my student account was locked and I couldn't access my email, access online needs for classes, or register for the spring 2013 semester. I called and visited every office I could, each directed me else where. I finally got a solution to this in MARCH of 2013 after I had already left WPU. I keep getting emails of them reminding me I am not a student there and to review my time there...no thanks. Student life: People smoke (weed and cigs) a ton on campus, one area I hung around was covered in cigarettes to the point you'd walk on them. You can easily smoke weed by the store (by the dorms at night) and the pathway to that store. The campus is dead on the weekends since it's mainly commuter school. Parking's a pain in the rear end past like 8-9am, traffic is also a pain. Campus: Some buildings are nice, like the main student center. It's got nice places to relax and decent amount of places to eat. I always found a quiet place to do work or just sleep. Other buildings show their age, inside and out. It's a nice looking campus and not very hard to get around. Professors: I had no real issues with my professors. They were polite, very knowledgeable about their courses, and more than willing to help. Cost: My semester cost around $4,000. I did not dorm so it was cheaper. read more

Like every college and university, you will tend to get out what you put in. I graduated in 2000, and my partner is going there now. I left with a BA in philosophy and went on to one of the most prestigious grad schools in the country, so I think they served me well. I had terrific professors (I was the only philosophy department grad in my year) for the most part; some really brilliant people who love to teach and are great at it. The art professors were wonderful, and most of my lab science people were great too. The campus is easy to navigate, though from what I understand the parking is still as problematic as it was when I went there. Be prepared to navigate or pay to park; it's not the end of the world, but it's annoying. The library is very, very good and the concert space is tremendous. I would almost go to see anyone there, but then they are pretty well known for their music program, so that's not surprising. I transferred there from Fairleigh Dickenson, and WP made it relatively easy to graduate in a timely way even though I was going part time while running a business. I felt that the tuition was in line with other universities off this quality; I never got any financial aid (because frankly, I didn't even think I could get any....) Bottom line? I think it's a school that serves may students well, especially returning students. read more

Loved the Jacques Pepin lecture here. The lecture hall was a good size - intimate enough, with good acoustics. The book signing after the lecture was fairly well organized, though perhaps lining people up in the entry way was not the best location. read more

The writing center at WPU is a inviting, clean and quite place to get your papers over looked by another person. The people are very welcoming and helpful when your in need to write or stuck in a block. I enjoyed my time in the center, I really feel like I am given all the tools i need to succeed. I would recommend to anyone who want a peer editor on a paper before handing it in. Plus some professors give extra credit for going, of course this is optional to the professors digression. read more

Although some may say that this is a bad school, it's all about what you make of it. If you join clubs and get involved you have a good time from my experience and the people I know. It has one of the best Education programs in the state. The advisors are extremely helpful and do whatever they can to get you to where you need to be (at least the advisors that I've had). The professors have real life teaching experience and are able to give actual examples of what they are teaching. I wouldn't have gone to any other school for my degree in education and plan on going back for grad school. read more

The new campus looks great, much better from when I was there back in 2004-2009. I will say, when you take the courses seriously, they certainly trained me better than other schools seem to train students these days as I work with interns throughout the year and it makes me concerned that they are not ready for the working world. Also, be careful where you park between 2am-6am....they will tow your car to a lot down in Paterson which is no easy trip to get to & will cost you about $150 to get it back. The campus is beautiful though and easily traversed. Dorm life isn't terrible but there are plenty of nearby apartments for rent and certainly offers a lot more freedom than the dorm life....plus is cheaper financially. It's a commuter school, so %80 of the students go home on the weekends, but I made some good connections hanging around campus and not going home cause I wasn't drinking at home the way I drank on campus ;) read more

Beautiful campus!!! It is so clean and spacious. The staff and students are nice and helpful for the most part. Only problems is that on numerous occasions some elevators have broken down and are out of order. Sometimes it takes a long time for them to repair the elevators. read more

This school basically stole my half my tuition money for dropping a class during the summer session on the 2nd day of classes. FYI its $355 per credit during the summer session and I paid $1,420 for a 4 credit course. Who in their right mind makes the drop date for 100% refund on the 1st day of class. It's not like that during the fall and spring semester. There is no justification for this. read more

I had a terrible experience taking Organic chemistry there over the summer. The teachers were lousy and the grading system was very odd. The courses werent curved, which for Organic Chemistry, is unheard of! The campus itself is quite pretty though. read more
