There are tons of waterfowl…read moreso it's great for all you birders out there - and you'll get beautiful views of the inner harbor and the Olympic mountains. Apparently the fishing is really great too and the pier is well suited to it. It's located in the heart of downtown on the waterfront near most of PA's shops and restaurants. It's right next to the Wharf which is also worth a visit as it has restaurants and art galleries. There's a map of the historic waterfront trail near the entrance to Hollywood Beach which is also right off to the right of the pier and a nice stroll too. Theres a Marine Science Center which is probably really fun for the kids (was closed when I visited). Alongside the pier there's seating and a covered stage - the city holds a "Concerts on the Pier" series Wednesday nights in the summer. And the pier and stage can even be rented for public events! There's a small-ish parking lot right at the entrance with free, timed parking. But there can be some shady characters milling around in that area so I would recommend keeping an eye on your vehicle and don't leave anything valuable inside.

Also, the reviews that mention that the hike is easy are all outdated! It's a slog to get there! The Olympic hot springs are a 12 mile hike mostly uphill. It used to be a much shorter hike but about five years ago the road washed out and you now have to hike an extra 8 miles... 12 miles total... one way. It's a slog! The springs themselves, while pretty, are shallow, muddy, slimy, and overall pretty gross. The signs warn of fecal bacteria. If you're hoping to hike 12 miles to soak in pristine pools, think again. Nudity is common. If anyone is actually using the hot springs, they will likely be nude. Get over it!! Let the nudists have their place... and 12 miles deep in the woods is a nice place to be nude. You might also see nudists hiking or biking on the trail to the hot springs. It's not common but does happen occasionally. Just smile and say hi! The hike starts off easy on a paved road for about 3/4 of a mile. Then you have to use a single-track dirt bypass trail that is steep and rooty. If you're using a bike you'll be pushing and carrying it over things. Then you're put back on an old paved road again. It's another 2 miles to the Glines Canyon overlook which is fun to see. Then it's another 5 miles on the same road, but now 100% uphill and sometimes steep, just to reach the trailhead. Once at the trailhead, you're already over 8 miles into it and you have another 2.5 or so to hike... bikes not allowed. You have to park at the Madison Falls parking lot. You're supposed to have a National Park pass.

It was a nice play area for the kids, there appears to be a large amount of RV parking, there are a couple very acceptable port-o-potties, and most importantly there for some great rocky areas down by the water where the kids plus or minus you can go and explore! I've only been here when the tide has been in, but I can imagine what it is out, there are probably some pretty great tight pools. When we've been there, the small tide pools the form are great for looking for small fish, crabs, and see in enemies. It's basically going to the aquarium in real life! It takes a little bit to get here as it's about 10 miles off the main road, but the roads are nice and it goes quick. There's a more standard sandy beach just around the bend, but it's a private area and runs something like eight dollars a person to go enjoy it. We were more keen to hang out on the rocks after finding out!

The dog park is separated into three gated areas. The smaller dog area is ample size to accommodate at least 50 dogs and their owners. The larger dog area is also decent in size. Both areas have water stations and covered benches just in case you want to sit down and watch the dogs play. The third area is for agility testing or for dogs to run the obstacle course. I will say that the majority of the dogs that were in the large pen were very friendly and kind of minded their own business. My friend's dog did get scratched in the nose as she entered though, so her nose was bleeding a bit but nothing major. The pens also come equipped with a few dog ball tossers and other toys to keep the doggies moving as well as doggie doo bags. I did sense a bit of community here as well as there were a few posters of dogs that have passed on as well as dogs that were lost were posted and several people talked about the dogs that passed on as if they were their own. Overall, a nice place to just let your dogs run.

Brought my kids along as I usually do because they like to play with their dog and they got yelled at to stop running by the "president" I told them they are fine and ignored her. Then the lady screamed at my child calling him retarded for running. Needless to say there were some harsh words from me and another mother. They quickly posted new dog park rules after this making it more of an elderly park. Another time a mans dog had taken my dogs ball which I don't mind I let the dog play with it for a while but then my dog (a Doberman) was getting frustrated because he wanted his ball. So I went to try and get it from the dog we struggled for about 30 mins trying to retrieve the ball from the dog. All while the owner kept saying good girl and cheering his dog on in this game of take away. Oh I should also mention I was pregnant at the time. The dog stopped at the owner many times and he would just ignore me and let his dog keep the ball. This park seems to have a stigma against my Doberman even though it seems like he's the one being nipped at by people poodles If you go in the evening though at dusk you can usually avoid the rude elderly and you and your dog can actually enjoy it. This is just two times there has been many more incidences.

Very cool area kind of tucked away. The parking lot can be a little small with a hill leading down, but also a fishing ramp to let out boats. We've seen people swim on a super nice day, kayak, paddle board. Also dogs are allowed but please be respectful and keep them on a leash if others are around.

I've been there plenty of times before when the public restroom was unlocked, and if it was locked in the early evening in August, I wonder under what conditions it's unlocked. Despite that, the little cabins I used to play in as a kid are still there, disc golf is available, there are nice facilities to reserve and rent, and there are a lot of pretty places to walk. You get a real outdoorsy feel without being far from civilization. It's worth a visit.
