The actual pool is quite good.Clean and suitable water temperature for lap swimming. Lap swimming can be crowed between 10 30 am to 1 pm. Recommend to avoid this pool during aqua fitness sessions. The music played at that time is very loud.I measured it on a decibel meter and the sound exceeds 85 decibels quite frequently. The male locker room is very small and untidy at times. read more

Homeless people all over the nearby area and the pool allows people to come in and shower all day. Very altruistic but not an environemt for me or my family. The YMCA has better prices and a safer vibe. read more

My 10 year-old son started taking swim lessons here last summer. He started taking lessons again this spring. I'm very happy with both the facilities and the instructors. Facilities In addition to an 8-lane lap pool, they have a child pool (with a water slide!), a dive tank with a springboard, and hydrotherapy pool. This aquatic center is operated by the City of Bellingham, and all the facilities, including the locker rooms, are very clean and well maintained. Group Lessons They offer both group lessons and private lessons. This being a city facility, even the private lessons seem affordable, but my son has been taking group lessons. Even with group lessons, there are no more than 5 children in each group, which I think is small. Instructors My son has probably worked with 6 or 7 different instructors so far. There were a couple of instructors who did not seem very familiar with working with kids, but I'm very happy with the rest of the instructors. 4 Lesson Class vs. 8 Lesson Class (Crucial) My son has taken both configurations: 4 lesson class (M through R for one week) and 8 lesson class (M through R for two weeks). It costs twice as much but it's clear to me that an 8 lesson class is much better. In fact, 4 lessons do not seem enough to learn necessary skills to move onto the next level. Whether your child is taking a 4 lesson or 8 lesson class, s/he need to master the same set of skills before moving onto the next level. So, I noticed there's much less instruction in 4 lesson classes as they don't have enough time to teach. Arne Hanna is conveniently located and offers various water related classes and programs. It's a very large place with various pool options including a deep pool, hot tub, lap pool, and kid friendly pool. The pools are quite nice and appear to be clean. The locker rooms and showers are kind of gross. I went in to a shower to rinse and was confronted with a disgusting pile of hair. So gross. If you can help it, don't leave your belongings in the locker room. An employee warned me that it's not a secure area for leaving personal items. read more

We have been very happy with Arne Hanna. My oldest child started taking swim lessons off and on for the last 3 years. We've been happy with most of the instructors. Our family also enjoys going swimming during preschool and open swim periods. Arne Hanna features a large walk-in child pool, that's only about 3 feet deep at the deepest end, a large lap pool, a diving pool, and hydrotherapy tub. The kids pool has a cool water slide, for riders 48" and taller. The only problem we've experienced is that sometimes the small pool is very cold. Sometimes AH has a sign up telling people of this and they will refund your $ but it's frustrating to show up for a lesson or open swim to a teeth-chatteringly cold pool. There are 2 family dressing/shower rooms and then a men's and women's changing room. The family changing rooms are great, but during heavy use times, can be a long wait to get into. They have a changing table in each of them, which is really handy if you have a small child that needs to be diapered/dressed. The staff are friendly and helpful. This place is woefully unprepared to handle large crowds. The staffs eagerness to be helpful leaves a lot to be desired. Unlike advertised the WIFI signal is crap on the pool deck. The only thing it does well is chlorinated waters. read more

I really dislike this pool. They have weird hours, and there's several things that just annoy me. 1) they NEVER reel in the lanes for lap swim, even when they're vacant, and all the kids are crammed in a tiny section. Why not open the entire pool for a free swim? 2) my kid wasn't allowed to go down the water slide with a life jacket on, what's up with that? Seems ridiculous. 3) the strange open swim hours irritate me beyond belief. Showed up at 4pm on a Saturday and was told the next swim started at 430? So we had to go Kill time at the playground in cold weather. If they fixed these few issues it could be a great place, but every time I come here some new BS irritates me. read more

This place forgets to update their calendar sometimes, so it's possible that you'll pay the fee to swim but there will be lifeguard training or kayak flipping or something else in the part of the facility you want to swim in. In all fairness I cant remember if the front desk employees told us before or after. Maybe we decided to stay despite the exercises taking up space. It was hot outside and we wanted to be in the water. For us in mid-2019 we wanted to use the diving board and had payed for use of the facility already, only to find out after paying that part of the pool facility wasn't available. So we used the water slide because the lap lanes weren't available. Ok so... then my hubby hurt himself resulting in a long term injury... if they had been more upfront about scheduling, and the pool wasn't always so busy and full of people maybe he wouldn't have been hurt. This facility doesn't seem like it has a ton of funding or resources. It's just a local city pool. The low rating isn't any reflection of the employees here. But I do hope it gets re-designed in this new decade. read more

My mom and I came here to do our 10 min float test for a rowing class, and Justin, the lifeguard timing us, went off duty and forgot about us. We swam/floated with all our clothes on for what they said was 15 mins but we're pretty sure it was closer to 25. Not a favorable impression of their safety or customer service. read more

I enjoy swimming at Arne Hanna Aquatic Center. I swim for fitness and have only utilized their lap lanes. Afterward, I use the hydro-therapy spa. I really appreciate that our town has a facility like this. It's clean, the staff are really friendly and professional and there are usually times you can do laps with no problem as far as overcrowding. The only negative, and this is usually the case with every public swimming facility, is the locker rooms, seems kind of crowded, old and the showers are less than satisfying as far as hot water and good pressure are concerned... having said that, it's still an excellent place to swim for fitness. I also noticed they have a lot of group fitness water classes like aerobics and the like. read more

Took a bunch of kids here for some pool fun on a Friday night when our regular pool was closed for maintenance. It was worth the drive! Just a few minutes off I-5 with plenty of parking. Save money if you are a family instead of paying individually and kids under a certain age are free. The lap pool was way too chilly for us to hang out in so we played with the kiddos in the zero-depth entry kid's pool, part of it goes to 3' with a basketball hoop. The other half is where the water slide dumps out those lucky kids taller than 48". There is also a smaller deeper pool with a diving board that was getting a lot of use from rowdy kids while we were there. Open swim ended at 9 and the place was invaded by middle school/high school kids which made the locker room a nightmare trying to get out. Wish we would have known to bring our own pool toys as the noodles are only for lessons or aqua aerobics or something. There was a couple balls for the basketball hoop. Little life jackets are available too. There is a set of bleacher seats and some chairs for those who don't want to get wet to sit on. read more
