Extremely unprofessional experience. They were a no-show for the scheduled appointment and only arrived an hour late after I called. The technician walked in without introducing himself, then, while I was writing the check, asked about my cat and started walking toward the back of my house without permission. When my partner stopped him, he came back and unexpectedly put both hands on my face, rubbed my eyebrows, and said, "You have such great eyebrows." I was completely taken aback. The electrical issue was fixed, but the behavior was incredibly inappropriate and uncomfortable. I would not recommend this company. read more

Our heat pump's breaker went out on a cold spring morning, sparks and smoke, very dramatic. We called Williams Electric and within about two hours Geoff was at our house pulling the (disturbingly melted) offending breaker from the panel. Geoff was asked to replace a thermostat that controlled the temperature of an electric floor heating system. It was fried when PG&E sent a surge to our community after a recent power failure. He returned my call within minutes and was at my house within a few days after ordering a replacement. Unfortunately,his supplier sent an incorrect part. Geoff didn't charge for any additional time that he had to spend to pick up a new part, even though I specifically mentioned that I expected to pay for some additional time when I wrote his check. He re-ordered the part, installed it as well as a surge protector at the main panel so this doesn't recur in the future. We now have a warm bathroom floor again, These electric heating systems are tricky to install; I feel very fortunate that Geoff was able to diagnose and correct the problem(s). I'm giving 3 stars for the effort that he provided. However, another electrician solved the issue in 10 minutes which he couldn't do after 3 tries. The installation to the wall outlet for the EV charger wasn't done properly with the correct bolts - said the other electrician who fixed the issue. Also never sent over the receipts after multiple requests. I'm down $300 from Williams while the other electrician charged half. Edit: I have my bank statement, texts and videos as proof. read more

Geoff SAVED the DAY!!! He called me on Whatsapp shortly after I reached out to him. Didn't have to wait long at all. I had plugged in one too many appliances and the power shut off. When I reset the breaker, the power still did not come on. I was panicking because my fridge is plugged into one of those outlets and all other electricians could not come out until friday which would be TWO days later. I accidentally overload my breaker by being careless with appliance usesage. Turn the breaker on and off and it didn't come back on. Call the phone number and Geoff got back to me on FaceTime to take a look at my panel. He told me to switch the one single flip I somehow miss on my panel, power came back on. I called Williams and asked him to troubleshoot some wiring issues, probably caused by past contractors. I explained what was needed & scope of the job. He told me his rate; it sounded reasonable When he arrived, he was quite gruff- didn't say hello to my wife when she greeted him. We went down to the panel so i could show him what the issues were He asked a few questions, i answered as best i could. When i asked if he wanted to start the job, he told me that he could tell that the job was complex, that he would spend 8 hours & not find the issue & that I wouldn't pay him & that his gout was bothering him WTAF? We have never not paid anyone for their service & his rude gruff manner was unbelievable . I posted a negative Yelp review &30 seconds later, my phone rings. It was him. Creepy to say the least. I hang up. He calls again, I swipe to not accept. He leaves a weird, rambling message about what "he meant to say." (listened to it again today to make sure and accidentally pushed the wrong button & called him. Oops!) And then I received a mildly threatening Yelp message telling me to fix violations or he will contact Oakland Planning enforcement. Hmm, getting those issues fixed was precisely why I called him. So he walked off because he accused me of not going to pay him & because the job was too complex for him, & calls me twice on my phone, leaving a rambling, strange message, a& then uses the Yelp message app to send me threats. I guess I only have myself to blame because I didn't do what I normally do - read the one- and two-star Yelp reviews. If you read the myriad 1-star reviews, a pattern emerges - a man who responds to a negative review/harassment, threats, and innuendo. When I ran my two small and successful small businesses and got a negative Yelp review, I would reach out to the reviewer to see if there was something I could do to improve his or her thoughts about my business and its practices (was even interviewed in the New York Times about this practice in the early days of Yelp and Yelp featured me in a video). If I couldn't reach the person, I would then try to turn the bad review into a teaching moment for me or my staff so we could learn and hopefully improve our business practices or products. So, then Mr. Willams filed a complaint with the City for alleged code violations, and a city code violations inspector showed up at my door, for permit violations and having work done without permits. When I explained to him that I had called Williams to fix the issue that he reported me for and that he walked off without providing me with a bid, he stated "I am sorry to have wasted your time. Have a good day." I told the inspector that we have contracted with an electrical contractor to fix the issue that I had called Williams about and offered to show him the signed contract. I also explained to him that we have never had any work done at our home without pulling a permit. He shook his head & apologized again. The City of Oakland has limited resources, and it's beyond shameful for this guy to be wasting precious resources on a perceived slight - a bad Yelp review written because of rude behavior. And a few days later, the licensed electrician that we hired to fix the problem that Mr. Williams refused to bid on came out. He diagnosed the issue, fixed it, & was done in half an hour. Unlike Mr. Williams, he was in a neat uniform, was very polite, and charged us 30% less than the hourly rate that Mr. Williams quoted to me over the phone for his services. Somehow, Mr. Williams believes that the fact that I have written 14 one-star reviews (approx 5.5% of all of my reviews) is indicative of something. Perhaps Mr. Williams should look at the fact that nearly 10% of the Yelp reviews for his company are 1-star (and if you include the 'not currently recommended' and the ones that Mr. Williams got taken off the system by complaining about them, well over 10% of his reviews are 1-star). Most, if not all of these one-star reviews point to the same issue - harassment by Mr. Williams after a negative Yelp review. While I suppose that it _may_ be possible that each and every one of the many folks who went out of their way to write a negative accounting of their experiences with Mr. Williams on Yelp is completely mistaken and are very vindictive people with weak egos who are all out to harm Mr. Williams for some reason; I contend that there is a clear pattern of bad behavior here on his part, not the reviewers. He opines that I have posted a negative review on his company to multiple sites because I have some nefarious purpose, but doesn't mention that he published MY ADDRESS on a NextDoor response (which got taken down fairly quickly, but still - to quote him: 'what kind of person does this to people'???), and offers up some armchair psychology in his response to my review below. read more
