Tech showed up and pointed at stuff and tried to scare us into a $20,000 whole house rewiring job. Then offered to rewire a working outlet for $700 (going rate is like $250) but said that he couldn't do it for more than a week. Told us we wouldn't be charged for his time but we got a $400 bill for "diagnostics and troubleshooting." On top of this, communication was a mess. Manager called me at 6pm on a Friday and couldn't get two words together, not sure if he was high or just exhausted but it was a super unprofessional call and left me with more questions than answers. Finally got some clarity in an email, but jeez what a mess. Maybe their work quality is good, but I won't be sticking around to find out. I'll be working with someone who is more up front about their work, better at communicating, and doesn't charge so much. read more

A contractor friend found and suggested Max because of their experience with knob & tube wiring. The overhead kitchen fixture was flickering and the bulbs had just been replaced a month or so before. I was terrified Max would try to get me to replace the entire electrical installation. To the contrary, electrician Lukas checked the fixture to find that the bulbs were not screwed in properly, and the dimmer switch on the bulb was turned down to low. Of course I felt like an idiot, but way better than needing a new electrical installation. Additionally, he discovered that 2 out of 3 supports on the very heavy glass shade were bad, making it very dangerous. He did not put the shade back for that reason. He installed a dimmer on the light switch, which is much more logical and effective. When I tried it out, the connected light above the sink started flickering. Another dumb find: I had put in a non-dimmable bulb. Lukas replaced all the bulbs with the proper replacements so I could have warm white and no flickering. Best case scenario! Lukas was polite, friendly, professional and worked really, really fast. Everything works perfectly now, and the knob & tube gets to stay. I've used Max Electric twice now for troubleshooting jobs. The first time I needed to isolate the problem when a switch kept tripping in one of our property's units, and the technician helped me determine the problem was with the unit's range, which was old and needed replacing. Most recently, Hanzel came out to help us investigate a light that was flicking on and off - we thought there might be a wiring issue. Had a positive experience with Max Electric and everything went smoothly. Both the initial inspection (unfortunately didn't get the name of who did it) and the actual work were great. Rigo did a great job with the 3 things I had done: replacing an electrical panel, replacing 2 light fixtures, and installing a smoke alarm. He was on time, knowledgable, and efficient. I don't think it is necessarily the cheapest option around but with something like this, quality and experience matters and they did a great job and handle permits and such. They did exactly what I asked them to do and were responsive over email and able to ask the exact questions they needed which made things seamless. This is not necessarily a bad thing but they could have probably done some kind of "walk through" around the place and found some additional work for me. Upselling is obviously not always a great practice but in my case, there were some things that I wish I had done and I think they could have suggested them and left it up to me to say yes/no to during the initial inspection. For example my kitchen could definitely use at least 1 additional outlet, I should have probably replaced a 3rd light, and so on. I do respect that they don't try to take you on a ride but since it is probably efficient to do things all at once, may have been helpful to discuss (this was also my bad for not noticing these things before). Rigo did a bunch of smaller things that made a big difference too like taking out the packaging for the lights and the old ones as well as the old electrical panel, clearly labeling all the switches very neatly which was not well done before, answering my questions and explaining things in a way that I (someone with little knowledge about most of this stuff) would understand. read more

They grounded things to the gas pipes and left the wires exposed and dared argue that putting conduit around it takes alot of time and is going to cost more money. He also texted me back saying that his technician felt that there was probably more to it than what was seen. When Andrei came on time, he quickly got to work and apologized, even saying it might take half an hour. I was thrilled that it was gonna take so little time. He showed me how badly warned the outlets were and that they needed to be replaced. He brought new products to replace them with and connected the two outlets together so that one GFCI was needed. He also included an exterior outlet cover. He was very thorough and careful. He tested all the circuit breakers to make sure he had the right one. When finished he again tested everything and put everything back in order. I didn't think it would cost quite this much but for the job that was done I think it went very well. I had a very simple job - replacing a porch light and hang 2 pendant lights. Max wanted $350-400 per light. The electrician I ended up hiring charged 1/6 what Max quoted and finished in a little over 1 hour. YMMV but it does help to shop around. read more

I had a great experience with electrician Rigoberto Ochoa. I can't speak for every electrician that works there so YMMV. He replaced my broken outlet and broken porch light quickly and was very communicative, explaining what was wrong and why things needed to be replaced. They were upfront with cost and it felt reasonable enough for what I needed done ($250 for outlet replacement and $300 for outside porch light replacement + the light).
