One of the best LA Metro stations and one of the least busy light rail stations! Parking is free as well.

Metro Blue Line has got to be the worst line out of all the Metrorail lines in Los Angeles and Los Angeles County. Many Homeless people hitch this line from Downtown Los Angeles to Downtown Long Beach or vice versa. The smell is horrible! The majority of people riding on this train are lower class income people that has no personal etiquette. This train is out of control. This line lacks safety for your well-being. You hardly see security or law enforcement on this line. Beware of this line, you will encounter all types of people that are crazy, deranged, violent, smelly, loud, strange, weird etc.. You name it. Overall, it's a solid line for transportation from Point A-B. It's safe pertaining to engineering and train conductors. The people inside determines your experience. Ride at your own risk. This depends on the individual riding. If you have street smart and have a thick coat to tolerate these kind of things. You are good to go. So that is why I put a Maybe in rating. I hadn't ridden the metro since pre-covid and I was a little apprehensive in doing so as I had read about so many fatal incidents occurring between passengers during covid up until a year ago. I was invited to a friend's holiday party and he lives near the VT Sunset station and didn't feel like dealing with traffic so I decided to take the metro. Nothing has really changed other than the A line (formerly blue line) goes all the way to Pomona now (used to end at 7th St Metro station). They now have some Metro guards that hop on and then off at Rosa Parks station. How about for the entire duration of the route??? One thing I've noticed is the day pass went back down to 5.00 (from 7.00) and the 1.75 fare (one way) has remained the same amount since before covid (probably to keep people riding it). The one pro to this station is plenty of free parking and there were a ton of spots available. read more

So the BLUE Line is now called "The A Line" and in Long Beach, this Willow Station has its own FREE Parking for the commuters in a three story structure adjacent to the shopping center and a 2 minute walk to the actual station. Pretty convenient!! As mentioned on the other posts, security is tight and LBPD does patrol frequently. FYI... it's an hour ride to the new Little Tokyo Station. read more

The Willow Blue Line Station is part of the LA Metro Blue Line, connecting Downtown Los Angeles to Downtown Long Beach. It's a good stop to get off if you want groceries, visit a drug store, or get a bite to eat. We have been to this area many times, but never gotten off the train since we usually come here by car. But on a Saturday afternoon, this was the terminus of the southbound blue line because there was an ongoing police investigation in DTLB that had closed the rail service there. I actually knew what had happened (about 3 hours before, a passenger ODed and died in the car next to us), and that area must have been close ever since. There was a friendly Metro ambassador at the station, but she had no useful information. There were quite a few people waiting around for a future train that had no ETA, so I decided to just walk to the nearby strip mall and grab lunch before continuing on a LB bus. read more

If you need to use the Blue Line and have a choice of any of the Blue Line Stations, I'd recommend Willow. It has, by far, the most parking available. Parking is free and the structure is well lit at night. Here's an efficient and inexpensive way to get to LA and the Valley. It's $1.50 for a one way ticket. You can use cash or Visa or Mastercard to pay for tickets. Willow Station provides plenty of parking in a big, free structure. Trains run by at regular intervals, even on the weekend. You won't be waiting long for the next train. Nearby the station are Carl's Jr, L&L Hawaiian, and Starbucks. Every now and then on the Metro, someone will be hawking wares ranging from extremely early release DVD's (aka bootlegs), candy bars, and other types of merchandise. read more

Many people make complaints about this station! But it's across the street from the Long Beach Memorial hospital as well as places to eat. There's also a park about a block away. Does it have a distinct, odd odor? Yes. Do people blast rap music or offer you to listen to their own music? Yes. Are there people who don't obey the law? Yes. Are people loud? Yes. It's public transportation. You're going to see different kinds of people. But that doesn't mean you should be scared! This train will take you to Downtown LA (or Compton, pick your poison!) for $1.50 in half the time. On your way to LA, you will get to see lots of cool graffiti art. You can even park your car here at this station. There's a police station near by, if you're still scared. FOR FREE. This is a great station! Free parking in a parking deck right next to the police station. A 40 minute ride to the end of the line downtown. Saves a lot of gas and wear and tear on the car...not to mention saving me from the downtown traffic jams. read more

I can count the number of times I've ridden the Metro Blue Line on one hand. So far every time has been to the same destination, the Pico Street station in LA, for the LA Auto show at the LA Convention Center. This time however was my destination was COMPLETELY different, the Pico Street station and the Staples Center! PARKING: Everything near this station is "permit only", even street parking for some reason. So if you drive here like I did, you must park in the parking structure about a football field away. Fortunately most of the parking spaces in the structure do not require a permit, only the closest spaces to the entrance need a permit. These reusable/reloadable TAP cards are new to me, shows how long it's been since I've ridden the Metro, LOL Overall, the Willow Street station is a good location and is fairly clean with lots of parking and easy entry / exit. read more

Lately I have been on quite a roll writing quick reviews on Metro train stations. The Willow Station, located right in the center of Long Beach, is probably the only one that has a pretty big parking garage that boasts about 4 floors. Parking is free, if you plan on using the Metro. Personally, I think it is a great idea to leave your car here and take the train to your destination. Police presence is always common here so you know your car is safe. Nearby this station lies Miller Children's hospital, Starbucks, Flamebroiler, and a few other places to eat. I think the other train stations should offer parking lots ot even garages to those who ride the Metro and want to save gas. This station provides just that. A few times, I have even driven here just to have some daytime adventures on the Metro!!! read more

Thank you Joe P for the heads up about this station! I think this is going to replace the Del Amo station as my go-to spot for long nights out in LA. Why? - Covered parking. That's right, in a structure. - Adjacent to a police station. Despite not having any bad experiences with the open-air parking at Del Amo, and my misgivings about law enforcement in general, it's nice to think their presence is a deterrent to any shadiness in the area. - Adjacent to a strip mall. I was thrilled when I realized that the ATM run I needed to make could be done right at the CVS in this center. Del Amo feels a lot more isolated. This is so convenient! - Adjacent to a ton of stuff on Long Beach Blvd. I had to work to resist the temptation to stop by Burger King on the way out after returning from a night out in LA. Maybe I should take off a star for that, heh. read more

Lots of parking and next to a police station. Just don't leave any valuables in plain sight. I've discovered that taking the Blue Line into LA is only $1.50 one way. You can get off at Pico which is right next to the Staples Center. It's a sure way to avoid pricey $25 parking. The trains come every 10-15 minutes so you can always catch one. There's a lot of uniformed officers patrolling the platform to insure orderly conduct. I took it by myself just last week to go to LA LIVE. read more

IT'S PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. Remember that when you get on the train for the first time. Yes, there will be people playing loud rap music from their phone. Yes, there will be homeless people passing through the isles begging for money. Yes, there will be people who are NOT law-abiding citizens on the train with you. Yes, there will be delays, crowded trains, and no seats to sit down sometimes. Yes, cars do get broken into occasionally in the parking garage. Now if you can put up with that, the Blue Line is a great way to get to Downtown LA from Long Beach, or vice versa. The Willow Station is the biggest station (I believe) that includes free parking in the 5-story covered parking garage. Its located in the shopping center on the corner of Long Beach Boulevard and Willow, behind Carl's Jr. and next to Starbucks. If you get to the structure before 8:30-ish, you can still get a parking spot that is covered. Otherwise, you might have to park on the very top in the sun. There is also a section of paid, monthly permit parking that is closer to the train (not covered), but why pay $25 per month to park uncovered in the open when there's free parking in the structure? Useful Facts about the Metro Blue Line: -$1.50 for a one-way ticket. -You can purchase a monthly pass (Unlimited rides) for $75, or yearly too. -Connect with the Green Line train at Imperial/Wilmington, Red Line, Purple Line, and Expo Line in downtown LA. -Oldest Metro Line Train out of all the colors. read more

Not sure why people don't use the train more often. Usually it's due to lack of knowledge or frankly - fear. Yes, there are sometimes very interesting characters on the train. But I have never felt threatened or endangered, and I take it a lot. I would rather take the blue line in to Hollywood, or to Staples Center, or LA live. I save on gas and parking - have some entertaining people on the train, have time to read or chill, or visit with a friend. I do take my family, and children. If you are the fearful type - choose to sit in the first car behind the driver. But relax - people are all different. And different is not the same as scary or bad! You need to know how to pay now - it is a tap card. Once you purchase it - keep it, to reload it. People who take the train are generally nice and willing to show you what to do at the kiosk. If you are taking some connecting trains - a day pass may be your best bet. If only I could hop on a train from OC to Long Beach to work daily. I would do it in a heart beat! read more

I love that this station is right next to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. My PCP is there and it makes it easy to hop on at PCH (where I get off the bus) using my tap card and ride it up a few blocks rather than paying another $1.25 to take the LBT 51. There didn't seem to be as many crackheads here which is good. Although there was one man quite obviously staring at me on the train... I don't question anything anymore. read more

The covered parking garage is what makes this place for me. I lave my car here from 5am to about 7pm Monday through Friday going to work in LA and back home to LB. The covered garage helps keep my car looking nice, and helping the paint to last, as well as keeping it cool on those hot summer days. Willow Station is the station where the train (which I haven't found out the reason or timing to) will sometimes make a last stop before turning back around to LA. This makes it the perfect station, as I would hate being on this train and having to get off and wait for the next southbound train. Be awesome to your fellow Angelenos and Long Beach residents! Please don't put a bag or something on the seat next to you when there are people standing. They've had just as hard a day as you and want to sit too. read more

They have a decent parking garage and you can park your car here for FREE!! Very accessible when you have to take the blue line! It is also next to the Police station so it's way safer than other station.) Also, there's security on the parking garage going around every 10-15 mins to make sure everything's fine and no one's trying to mess up with your vehicle. I park at the Willow Blue Line Station before taking it to the Pico or Grand station to get to work. There are always a few spots open, and it is free to park. It is just as simple to get on and off as any other station, but might not be as great for people who are getting dropped off, better for park and ride. read more

For what it's worth, it's within walking distance. Access is very easy and you can access major parts of LA through this line. Getting from point A to point B in Long Beach is a cinch using the blue line. -I personally prefer it over the bus- Focusing on this stop intself-- There is a LARGE shopping plaza with a super market and several other eateries nearby. Not even a full block away from the shopping plaza, there are even more eateries. The area is well lit and even has a grassy park within view from the train itself. Security guards/officers tend to flood the area around noon time and in the evenings once workers get off work and begin heading home to survey the area and make sure everything is well. The card updating/electronic tap reader always seem to be functioning...Never an issue there... The trains are always in perpetual motion. They run minutes apart from one another. Most patrons will not be waiting for a train for very long. After certain hours (the very early morning hours after 3am) the trains may take a longer period of time to arrive. Going south of this station during those particular hours aren't a huge problem. Going North usually poses a little more of a problem during those hours. Overall, this is a convenient, well kept stop. read more

I don't usually park at this station (even though it's blocks from my house) I usually park at Wardlow Station.... Maybe because there are always less people there. Anyways, I parked here at Willow on a Sunday. Finding a spot was easy. I saw a white car behind me and as it passed I was presently surprised to see that it was a security vehicle! THERE IS A PARKING GARAGE. While you can leave your car at the sandy lot nearby, it's much better to drive into the light pink parking structure by the plaza. 5 floors, but kind of small. As for the station itself, It'll get you where you need to go. The tap card stations are in decent shape, just be quick- they'll end your session if you don't touch the screen for 5 seconds. The area is safe enough that you can wait if needed, but it's not indoors. I had a smooth ride and the train came quickly, so I can't complain. Just a plain train station. read more

This is a good station because it's bright and just off the beaten path. There are always tons of Cops and security guards walking around and driving around. Trains come each direction every few minutes. Starbucks is nearby. Plus, the corner of Willow and Santa Fe is pretty busy, several bus routes and restaurants. They could probably stick a bathroom somewhere or add some concession sales. Besides that, this is one of the nicer and busier stations. read more

Took the train to Los Angeles, and was surprised how convenient and safe the experience was. We had never been through Watts or Compton and was truly surprised at how suburban some parts appeared. The train was clean and while the parking lot had very few cars-and some loiterers- our car remained untouched. The experience was quite positive! read more

Well, it's not a place I would go to hang out, but as a park-and-ride center it's quite clean, well lit, and usually safe. I appreciate the sheriff's deputies who hang out at this station for many hours a day so that paranoid yuppies like myself can feel safe and protected riding the Blue Line. Seriously, I used to be afraid of Willow and would only get on the train in downtown LB, but when I kept passing Willow and seeing all the cops, I decided to give it a try. Plus, the cops are genuinely nice to regular riders and even nice to the homeless barefoot guy who hangs out on the bench there. I would love for the officers to stay later - like 9:30 or 10pm. I've started driving to downtown on days I'll be there that late (which is 4 days a week) but with gas prices the way they are, I'd like to take the train. Then again, I'm still scared to be riding the Blue Line at that hour no matter what... I neeed to go request the crime statistics from the Sheriff's office. Also, there is NOT ENOUGH PARKING half the time - especially with gas prices soaring and ridership likely going up. If I get there after 10am (I have an off-hours schedule), then I have to vulture for a parking spot and hope that someone coming off the train is actually leaving the garage. I wish that part of the enormous retail parking lot could be designated to transit patrons if need be. I'd rather park far away in the retail lot than in the overflow parking up the tracks to the north, which freaks me out since I get back a little late. read more

This is the only blue line station with a parking garage. It has quite a few things going for it like easy access from the 405, located in a strip mall with a bunch of eclectic fast food joints(try the l&l BBQ) and there's a sheriffs substation. On the weekdays the garage gets full early in a pinch find a parking spot in the strip mall on weekends it's mostly empty. Whenever I want to visit downtown la this is my first choice barring time constraints read more

Mass Transit - You've got to love it. If you're headed anywhere in L.A. county accessible by metro, the Willow station is a good spot to start. A large parking structure and mini mall are adjacent to this station. You can't go wrong with that combination. Use for work, can't complain much since it's tax funded transit. The cars smell like piss, seats are dirty, gum, stains same as you would find on a bus. Homeless sleeping on the cars, pay parking only so you buy monthly or pay more daily. Run late during peak hrs, crowed lucky if you can on board, like china sub-way LOL.. read more

I took the Blue Line from Willow Station to LA and back today. First time rider. I saved $15 on parking at the Convention Center. Thanks to other comments, I managed to make it there and back reasonably OK. 1) The parking garage is at 200 E. 27th Street, Long Beach - for those using GPS to get there. Then it's a short walk to the station. 2) The kiosk to buy a TAP card is relatively easy to use, although you can't dawdle on your choices. I recommend reviewing the process on the Metro website if you haven't used the kiosk before. 3) The terminals where you use the TAP card is not highly noticeable. I suggest watching other passengers, or just look for the short metallic box. :-) You have to tap your card before boarding the train, and whenever you transfer to another train or bus. On Saturday - the ride up was pretty empty in the morning around 8am, pretty full on the way back around 5pm. There was plenty of parking in the garage, and the area looked relatively safe. read more
