    Getting into our plane
    Mari B.

Love the simplicity and smoothness transitions inside this airport. It is well organized and they have coffee shops inside as well. It is a smaller airport compared to LAX but nothing beats smaller crowds & more relaxed environment before your travel destination.

I'm a big fan of this airport. If my destination can be reached through this airport I definitely will choose here first. The layout is great! Love walking up the steps to the airplane. They have refillable water stations inside, some rescans food places, gift shops and coffee shops/stands. Love it! You can rent a car quickly or park your can nearby over night. Such a convenient and awesome airport. Can't wait to see the upgrades.

Still a great small airport to go. Was here to pick up family members. Easy and convenient waiting parking and easy getting in and out without any hassle.

Note that car rental counters have moved into the historic terminal building as of December 2025. Check out the stately, historic Art Moderne facility even if you're not renting a car. They've restored the tile artwork inset into the floors and did a great job. It's so peaceful now that it's hard to picture this having hosted those very busy, jam-packed airline check-in counters back in the day. LGB just keeps getting better and better. I love this airport!

There is a sitting area behind the sign. It has a zen like garden feeling.

Long Beach Airport is one of the most convenient airports in Southern California. Its location makes it a perfect midpoint between Los Angeles and Orange County, which is especially helpful for travelers trying to avoid the heavier traffic and congestion of larger airports. The airport itself is refreshingly easy to navigate and never feels overwhelmingly busy, making the overall travel experience much more relaxed. They have many charging ports for your devices which is so convenient. Despite being smaller, it still offers a solid selection of restaurants and food options, so you won't feel limited while waiting for your flight. Overall, Long Beach Airport strikes a great balance between efficiency, comfort, and convenience.

    Lovely sitting area between gates

This is still a marvelous place to fly out and into. If flying into LGB, you can sit at either end of the flight because you're de boarded on both sides immediately. If it's raining when you're here, cut through the restaurants to avoid the rain when walking to your gate. Checking through TSA is one of the smoothest things ever. Even when I was stopped, it took 4 minutes total. It is rather chaotic when it's boarding time as the airport is small so it gets crowded. It's still worth it here since the passengers here are much more friendly compared to LAX.

What a small but mighty airport. I don't think I've ever been to an airport where I entered the tarmac to board the plane. That was kind of cool. TSA here was a breeze 5 min and you're in. The food options while limited were delicious. And the staff were on it to keep the place clean. I'll definitely utilize this airport if I'm in the area

    Bobbi A.

I can see why this is considered one of the coolest airports. It's a smaller airport, so you actually exit the plane directly onto the tarmac. Surprisingly, that gives it a level of intimacy and charm that larger airports just don't have. The one thing that cost them a star was the assistance for wheelchair passengers. There was a long line of people waiting, and it took a very long time for anyone to help them. At one point, we even had to advocate for the waiting passengers to get the staff's attention. Other than that, the rental car process was super quick and easy both when departing and returning. Baggage claim is small but efficient, and there are some really nice seating areas along with a wide variety of food options.

First visit to LGB and I was impressed! The airport has a super cool, laid-back vibe with its open-air design. Both the passenger concourses and baggage claim are open-air, allowing for a breezy, indoor-outdoor experience. The historic art deco terminal has been repurposed into the rental car customer service area, and I love how they've preserved the character. Rental cars are conveniently located just across the drive from the terminal, making pickup quick and easy. Here are a few historical notes and quick facts: * Long Beach, California (about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles) * Opened: 1911 (one of the oldest operating airports in the U.S.) * LGB flights are capped daily and annually due to strict noise restrictions. * Passenger Volume: ~3-4 million annually (much smaller and calmer than LAX) * Easy curb-to-gate experience * Outdoor concourses with palm trees * Strong ties to Southern California aviation history

Flying in and out of this airport is so pleasant. It's like have your own private airport. I have Bern flying in and out of this airport many times. Very short lines, kind of like a community airport. Never a wait for TSA clearance. I used my digital California drivers license and they accept it here. There are only a total of 12 gates. The North concourse and the South concourse. There is no air walkway. You walk onto the tarmac to get onto the plane. There is a ramp to go to the front of the plane or to go to the back you go up the stairs. If you hoof it fast enough and climb the stairs you can get s good seat. The airport has lots of natural outdoor seating. Very pleasant to enjoy the California weather. Dropping off and picking up passengers is not crowded and respectful. Bathrooms are clean. This airport gets a 5 star rating.

This is the TSA line and the general boarding has no line.
    Connie M.

Standing here in line at the Long Beach airport for Tsa Pre-Check. My girlfriend went into General boarding and she is already through and I am still standing in line with 50 people in front of me. Why? Because they only have one Tsa station open and four open for General security so if you're heading to Long Beach airport don't bother going in the Tsa line because it will take you at least 30 minutes longer. You won't realize the bottleneck until you start in Tsa and see everybody else going through General Boarding. No, there's no TSA strike, that's over. This is just local government inefficiency and it's best!

Sweet Jill's .. most popular place in the morning since they got the coffee.
    David M.

This is a nice small yet modern airport if you can find flights here to avoid the congestion of LAX. Feels like much of the airport is outdoors. Only 11 gates and you can walk on/off the planes to/from the tarmac. All the food/drink options are also non-corporate franchised locations which is nice. It's worth flying out of LGB if schedules work.

Ask the Community - Long Beach Airport - LGB

Curbside wheelchair assist, I have an injury and need to be met at curbside to go to checkin, thru TSA, to the gate and on the plane. How does this work? The airlines say go inside for this but thats not physically possible. Thanks for information.

Not sure if the airport manages this Yelp page or if anyone with experience would answer in time for your journey, so please call the airport for timely information.

What time does security open in the morning?

LGB and all other TSA Facilities open at 4a.

Does Long Beach airport have fast food restaurant?

Hi! They have a couple of different food options, bars and some quick grab type places but I don't think they have any fast food restaurants inside the airport.

I read that Uber/Lyft has a fee charged to them. Will I be able to get an Uber/Lyft ride from Long Beach Airport?

Yes, you will be able to get an Uber/Lyft from LGB. It's very convenient. They have designated areas and you'll see signs curbside. Yes, there's a small surcharge fee (at least for Uber) in your receipt and you'll see it as "LGB Airport surcharge."… Read more

There is a steep ramp that they push you up in a manual chair I'll put up a picture

    Is the observation bar closed?

Everything is open back to normal.

Is Long Beach Airport Parking Lot B closed permanently (that is what it says on my Apple maps app)? If so, is Parking Lot A large enough? Seems that one cannot reserve ahead of time, so if A is full and B is closed, what other options exist?

How early do I check-in at Long Beach Airport now?

What's the difference between parking lot A & B besides a $2 extra cost a day for long term parking? We are traveling with 2 small children, car seats, luggage, and leaving it overnight for 4 nights. Would prefer covered parking. TIA!

So 45 min before my flight I am cleared. I'm on the window of the very last row but whatever. Then we are on the plane, and 40 mins after scheduled departure time(3:25) we haven't left and the captain comes on and says the plane has turned into a pumpkin - there was to be a mandatory check in our destination and if we had been in the air by 359 it would have been fine but since we weren't, the mandatory check had to happen at the departure airport and we are now deplaning. I almost always fly American but the southwest terminal at lax is so much nicer I thought I would take a chance. After spending more than I would have on an American flight, I'm fine with southwest. The last few experiences weren't great but this was the last straw. STAY AWAY if you want to actually want to get somewhere. Even Spirit is superior. I fly every week and my experiences with southwest are the worst. If I could give zero stars I would!!
