I lived in this complex from Feb 06 to Oct 06. We signed a 6 month lease and when we first moved in we were so excited!! Beautiful townhouse, not far from anything. Laundry, post office, pool, play area. All right there. Amazing lawn service, friendly neighbors and a very quite area. Anyway, the trouble did not begin until into the summer, July to be exact. That summer was horrendous, triple digit heat waves that lasted weeks, even at night. My dog was busting out the screen windows to try to find cooler air outside. We were absolutely miserable. Noticed the AC unit just wasn't hacking it. Usually kept it at around mid 70's on the thermostat, but ours would read in the 90's?!? Called and complained for almost a month before they finally came and looked at it. Turns out part of the condenser unit was frozen solid, and a part of the motor had burned out. Tech tells me it happens all the time, these units are old. He was nice and friendly and had the job finished quickly. House started cooling off right away. Ahhh. Right? Wrong. Woke up in the middle of the night freezing!! That crazy man had turned the thermostat down as far as the blasted thing would go! House was at 55 stinking freezing degrees. Well honest mistake really, we turned it back up quite a bit, and back to bed. When our next electric bill came in it was over one thousand dollars! Yes 1000.At the time, my self, sister, and brother in law were all working full time jobs with a 2 hour commute for 2 of us. We would've had to leave every single electric device in the house on every day, all day long to even come close to accumulating that kind of utility bill. We knew that couldnt possibly be right but turns out it was from the malfunctioning AC Unit. It never turned off, because the house wouldn't cool. I contacted the apt manager with the bill, explained the situation, the problems that led up to the repair, everything. I got a big fat, sorry not my problem, pay it yourself. ????? Are you freaking kidding me?? Fine. To this day that power bill has not been payed.
Ok, fast forward to our moving out. Talk about nickel and diming OMG! These people were absolutely nuts! We paid a 895 dollar deposit. The only things, and I truly mean only things left to do were a few minor carpet repairs due to 2 red stains(kool-aid) in the middle of the living room, and a few doggie accidents on the landing at the top of the stairs. My dog was a great dane lab mix with horrible arrthiritis and sometimes she just couldnt make it down those dang stairs. Other than that we left nothing behind, cleaned out every nook and cranny, and figured we would leave the deep cleaning for them to get ready for the next tenant. They wanted us to pay over 2500 dollars. New paint in every room? why it wasn't done for me but ok, New carpet in the whole upstairs? for what 3 dog stains on a piece of carpet 5 foot by 7 foot. Absolutely not. 150 per red stain downstairs to repair? Nope, plus 500 for a deep clean. nuh uh. Not gonna happen. Pay the nice hispanic lady next door 100 and she would do it from top to bottom with a tooth brush? We didnt pay any of that either because we forfeited the deposit and figured that would cover the damaged carpet and deep clean. They ended up dropping the claim after we refused to pay it. Never heard from them again.
Fast forward one more time to this year. March to be precise. My husband and I are checking our credit, and going through the process of trying to buy our first home. What's this? A comcast cable bill from April 2012? For almost 600 dollars? WTH? That is definately not ours, we haven't lived in CA for almost 5 years.
So we call up the reporting agency, try to figure out whats going on. They confirm right off the bat, the name on the account is correct, but nothing else is. SSN and BDAY dont match. They ask us what was your address when you lived there? Apt 126, they say ok, well this account was set up in apt 121. HUH? Ok what in the world is going on here? Turns out my husband is a victim of identity fraud.
Kind of suspicious that is just happens to be from the same apt complex that tried all those years ago to screw us over. We called the manager last month to notify them that someone had either leaked or stolen some of our information, and was a present or past tenant. They say well I dont see what we can do about it. Ok I can understand that it's out of your hands, but come on. This place is the worst. At least take more precaution with how you dispose of or transfer your old paperwork to protect your tenants, past and present.
IMO this complex has changed hands, including ownership and management so many times over the last 10 years that I wouldn't trust a single thing they say, They are shady, manipulative, and money hungry. The rent was increased twice in the 8 months we lived there, as well as the pet rent once. Never again. Please if you value your money don't live here. read more
